If you’re a Democrat who voted Republican today…..

Please do us a favor and e-mail our colleagues at elections@ajc.com. Be sure to include your name and phone number so a reporter can call you. If you read below, you can see there’s some kind of effort to push Democrats to grab a GOP ballot — we’re trying to get a handle on how large it really is, and how well it’s working.

Many thanks…….

I’m a Democrat but I almost always take a Republican ballot in the primary. Where I live, the Republicans mostly run unopposed in the general election, so the primary is my only chance to make a choice among the candidates. Also, this time it’s very important to make sure Ralph Reed doesn’t get elected.

My husband and I and some of our friends also voted Republican for two reasons…one, a real disillusionment with Kathy Cox’s stances on a number of issues which require someone with more courage and leadership to earn an enthusiastic Democratic vote…and second, the strong desire to make sure Ralph Reed never represents Georgia.

The Christian Right is neither. That is why I voted against Ralph Reed. If Jesus came back today he would slap Reed for his lying & cheating hypocritical ways. If I wanted to live in a religous fascist state I would move to Saudi Arabia.

What about Republicans who voted Democratic today? We may want to have a voice in races that we wouldn’t have otherwise. I voted for Cathy Cox (WITH A CAPITAL C). Funny how that name seems to be confused by voters. We need a change in high places- we can’t keep cutting the education budget!

Donkey Kong must be pretty young - I was around when Reagan was elected and he would not have been if it had not been for “Reagan Democrats” crossing over to support him. Same thing going on here with Cagle. People of good sense know that he is the better man for the job and that Ralph Reed is a fundamentally flawed candidate.

Yes Donkey Kong ALL Democrats —ie the “godless everyone of them” and they are still “godless” today if you read the Bible and see what they stand for—voted against Reagan. I ignore Jesus’ teaching on “divorce” as Ronald Reagan had two living wives and was the only President to be divorced. Reagan and Reed—the real Christians!

I’m also a libertarian who voted against Ralph Reed. It honestly scares me to think that he might actually be able to get people to vote for him, don’t they watch the news? Is it enough to just call yourself a good christian, while actually doing everything the opposite of it’s beliefs, to get votes in Ga? I didn’t think I might have to worry about that, but then I started to see a ton of Reed signs in peoples yards and realized I had to vote against him before he somehow ended up representing this state. We’ve got enough image troubles nationally without him adding to them.

After having instructed home-schooled kids to have them remove Cagle signs as campaign work, I realize you can go to lower level of pond scum and still pull the Jesus card.

I voted in the Republican primary even though I typically vote Democrat in order to vote for Casey Cagle. Keeping him off the ballot in November will improve the Democrats chances by keeping people who vote party line Republican away from the ballot box.

The problem with crossing over is that those who did will not be eligible to vote in the runoffs. There will surely be runoffs in the Lt. Governor and SOS races and possibly even the race between Cox and Taylor.

I hate Ralph Reed as much as the next Democrat, but voting in the runoffs is more important to me.

By Dave

I have to agree with “Donkey Kong.” If Reed is hated so much by the secular Democrats he must not be all bad. I would have rather had a Repubilican running for Lt. Gov that did not have Reed’s religious/casino baggage, but it seems that the people we need in our Party will not step up to the plate. Of course this is also true in the Democrat and the Libertarian party. I think most will agree that it’s hard to vote when you do not like anyone on the ticket, and this is the problem I had at the voting poll today. Good luck to the winner whoever that may turn out to be. I can’t see a dimes worth of difference between any of them.

This is the first time that I have intentionally voted “against” anyone in a primary. In the past, I have always gone to the polls to vote “for” someone. Ralph Reed is the high priest of the American Taliban. He is a very dangerous man. His Christian Coalition will believe everything he says and will do anything he tells them to. They are sheep, and he is their shepherd. He has mixed politics with religion more than any other man in our history, and this is how Bush got elected. It’s wrong. It’s half the country and it’s wrong. The sell the name of our saviour the Lord Jesus Christ for political gain, and wouldn’t wanna be them on judgement day, with all that gnashing of teeth. Ralph Reed looks like Beetlejuice to me. (and he smells like him too)

Vote for Ralph Reed. He had me at ‘Keno’.

BTW: My wife crossed over from the Democrats to vote for Cagle. She sacrificed Cox for Cagle. She vehemently and viscerally detests Ralph Reed. Yes, she foams at the mouth when his visage appears in those damnable ads.

I don’t like labels, because they lead to stereotyping and simple narratives. My father, a moderate Baptist preacher - thank God there are a few left! - taught me that the Gospel is about love.

If you (and I’m making an assumption here that you own, or owned, a WWJD bracelet) really care to know what Jesus would do, go find yourself a red-letter Bible and read (the translation of) His words.

I am neither Republican nor Democrat, as I generally choose the individual and not the party, but I tend to support more Democratic candidates than I do Republican. I took my 18 year old son to vote in his first election today, and I explained to him that, even though he may agree with the positions of a greater number of Democrats than Republicans, he should consider voting in the Republican primary as our district races were most likely to be won by Democrats in November but the state races were likely to have Republican winners and the primary was his chance to influence who actually held the office next year. He and I went over the candidates together and we both took Republican ballots today, mostly to vote against Reed and Stan Wise, the loathesome current chair of the PSC, as well as to support Karen Handel. It was an interesting civics lesson on the difference between primaries and a general election and the voting strategy for each.

Okay, I have to take credit for Ralph Reeds humiliating defeat. I wrote the big line, the line that no candidate could have overcome: “Ralph Reed had me at ‘Halo’.”

The whole city was saying it, like, “Isn’t that special?”, or “You look marvelous”, so many years ago.

It got in the lexicon, and it torpedoed Ralph Reed.

I’m offering my services to any Democratic candidate in the General Election in November.

Casey Cagle will be much MUCH more difficult for either Martin or Hecht to defeat than Reed. With a pro-abortionist and gay rights’ advocate as Giuliani endorsing Reed so publicly—Reed’s hypocrisy was truly revealed. Like Judge Roy Moore’s defeat in Alabama—the defeat of Ralph Reed proves religion and politics make for peculiar bedfellows. Other endorsements from well known politicos did not help Reed either.

cool that the so-called “christians” (like anne and donkey kong) are here to help me determine who the amoral sinners and jesus-defilers are:

ralph reed and his supporters.

can you actually imagine jesus saying any of the following:

“They will burn in hell—these “godlessâ€? people called Democrats”

“Don’t you TOUNGE me or Ralph either you probable gay.”

21st century christian fundamentalists — persecutors, complainers of persecution.

the winner of the night is this one, though: “I ignore Jesus’ teaching on “divorceâ€? as Ronald Reagan had two living wives and was the only President to be divorced. Reagan and Reed—the real Christians!”

yep, ronald “i gave anthrax to saddam and money + guns to osama” reagan and ralph “bodybags” reed. real christians that represent the real fundamentalist movement in america for what it is - a disgusting power grab that sullies the church and all who call themselves christians.

SEPARATION OF CHURCH & STATE WASN’T FOR KEEPING PEOPLE OF FAITH OUT OF POLITICS, IT WAS FOR KEEPING DIRTY POLITICS OUT OF THE PURE FAITH.

otherwise the politics corrupt the faith. ralph reed exemplifies that.

Why do these “Christian” rightwingers get so bent out of frame when anyone questions their god’s supreme power over all? THEY are always the one’s so quick to judge and point fingers. “When religion ruled the world, it was called the Dark Age.

You were referring to Evangelicals when you wrote this. Remember, Evengelicals are not very “religious.” They meet in strip malls and mega churches. There are no rituals, as there is no central authority except for the Bible, which was produced by the Catholics. So a Ralph Reed revolution could hardly be called a religious one, or be compared to Dark Ages as there is no “Church” to oppress its members. Each Evangelical is his own “pope”, if you will.

An Evangelical’s faith is not based on fiction, it is based on unbelievable facts. That’s what makes it “faith.” If the facts are believable, it’s only “belief.”

I’ve always done research on the candidates in all parties and then cast my vote for the ones I considered most appropriate for the office. There is good and bad in every party. I was raised Democrat and cast my first Democrat ballot upon reaching voting age. Since then, I have graduallly become more conservative in my values and my voting practices. I consider myself neither Democrat, Republican or Libertarian. When asked for my political views I reply that I am conservative. I believe that no one should be condemned for their religious beliefs or voting preferences but I also feel that any ballot should be cast only after careful consideration.

I burned my little poodle’s belly and am worried about what the vet said to me. She said I abused my poochie and I would never ever do that as I love everybody and am so very sorry for my display last night with the Lt. Gov’s race. Forgive me as I am weak.

Although Ralph is not technically qualified as dog-catcher, he did accept money from Indian casinos lobbying against dog-racing.

Everybody—I am soooo sorrry. I finished that Coulter book and fell for every line and I should’t as she is really not very nice and I started using that “godless’ word for peopel like good Democrats who are not. My little dog has ointment which is making poochie fine—I should have not statred smoking last night nut was so weak. The taxi driver was so nice but he just knew best and I didn’t. I love you ALL but do not want the Coulter book as I am going to throw it in the insinerator, Anne

I even feel bad we have the same first name. Those new Jersey ladies—widow firefighters of 9/11— are heroines and not evil as Colter says.

I’m not sure if you would call me a Demican or a Republicrat. Basically I hold both political parties in equal contempt and favor a balance of power between the two. At a Republican event I feel like the b******* at the family reunion, while at a Democrat event I sometimes wonder “who are these people??!!” This year I contributed a little money to Cagle’s Republican campaign and Cox’s Democratic campaign, then voted for Cathy Cox in the Democratic primary because total Republican control is as bad as total Democratic control. Since the Republicans will maintain control of both houses of the legislature for the foreseeable future, I plan to vote for Democrats for Governor and Lt. Governor in November with the idea of trying to get some balance.

I took a Republican ballot so I could vote for Rosanna Szabo for Gwinnett Solicitor (and to wipe that smirk off Ralph Reed’s face).

Hunter—I have already destroyed that book because she—Colter— is mean-spirited and made me- a meek Christian- who fell Tuesday by drinking and smoking again a wicked wicked person calling “Democrats Godless”. No I am forgiven—but maybe I should have donated it to a library instead. I could buy another at Borders and have it sent to the branch. I want to find that nice taxi driver of Afro-American desent to thank for not taking me to the Intercontinental to hug Ralph a big thanks becuase he could tell the rough shape I was in when he arrived at the house. My son had already taken my carkeys cause he know’s Mommie. And I love him for that. Not many in my Church however have forgiven my behavior Tuesday and i’m still upset with them and the mean ole vet.
