The troubadour and the general choose sides
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Democratic secretary of state candidates Shyam Reddy and Scott Holcomb, who are both up with new ads, have picked up support from a couple of well-known names.
Indie fans will notice that the voice in the new Reddy ad is that of singer-songwriter Shawn Mullins, an active member of “Team Reddy, according to a press release.
Many of those the voice is speaking to might not recognize it. The ad’s about protecting seniors by fighting investment fraud and nursing home abuse, in addition to “protecting our right to vote, which is a hot topic this year.
Meanwhile Scott Holcomb, who has emphasized his military experience, released an endorsement letter from former NATO Supreme Allied Commander and 2004 Democratic presidential candidate, Gen. Wesley Clark.
“Scott Holcomb served our country proudly, deploying in support of conflicts in Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Now Scott is answering another call to public service, and I am pleased to endorse his effort and candidacy for Georgia Secretary of State,â€? Clark’s endorsement says.
By the way: Is Holcomb’s new ad the first this year to deal specifically with electronic voting?

Holcomb’s ad is great. I think it’s one of the best so far this year.

Ads are great, but I’ve listened to most of the SoS candidates speak in person. In terms of having a thorough understanding of the JOB, a clear vision of what needs to be done going forward, the ability to articulate and communicate, and a systematic approach to efficiency and effectiveness, I can say that Darryl Hicks was by far the most impressive candidate at the forum.
Ads don’t mean much. Just a suggestion: try listening to candidates outside of their edited soundbites this year. You’ll learn so much more, and feel better about making these important choices!

Most SoS candidates are much like cheerleaders—lots of rahrah. Darryl Hicks is the only one with ANY real experience related to the job. Further more, he has traveled state extensively, picking up major endorsements from elected officials and local activists on diverse sides of the political and ethnical spectrums. More to come tomorrow, but today’s impressive news was Hicks’ endorsement by Ambassador Andrew Young.

Darryl Hicks is the best candidate. Of course, he pays me to say that (and the 2 comments above) so take that for what it’s worth.

I don’t buy one bit of hicks crap. He’s was a lobbyist for Atlanta Gas Light and raised our natural gas prices to one of the highest states in America. No endorsement will change my mind; if he wins, mark my words he will get more than 42% of the vote. He has no ideas and skirts around whta his past experience is. What a joke.

correction; he will NOT get more than 42%.

Neither endorsement will matter much. The candidates don’t have enough money to get the word out and the media folks are tied up with the races for Governor and Lt. Governor.

Love Holcomb’s ad. Unique and engaging.
Hicks has been playing his experience hard, but his isn’t any stronger than Reddy’s or Holcomb’s.

Election day vote Walter Ray
Let other states experiment with rookies.

Why Walter Ray? Too old and no vision for the office. More importantly, he’s a crook and many in south georgia share the same centiments. Time to move on to new leaders with a fresh vision.

I appreciate that Scott Holcomb’s ad actually addresses an election issue, especially in light of the deluge of attack ads. As for rookies, let’s not forget that Jackie Robinson hit .297 for the Dodgers his rookie season.

That’s really sad of our opponents to use my name. I bet the AJC can also track IPs - just like the Mark Taylor/Cathy Cox Wikipedia incident. One of our lame opponents will be losing a lame staff person.
