The sights and sounds of the Reed-Cagle race
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In the Republican race for lieutenant governor, Casey Cagle has crossed into Point of No Return Land. There’s no shaking hands and wishing best of luck after a TV ad like this. Obviously, it was coordinated to go off today, after the Sunday night debate on GPTV.
Meanwhile, Ralph Reed has brought Zell Miller into the race to speak well of him. Says Zell: “He’s a man of character, integrity and conservative principles….I know him and I trust him, and I wanted you to know, so can you.” Listen to the entire sound clip here.
Miller also made a church appearance with Reed up in Forsyth County over the Fourth of July weekend.

If Georgians elect Ralph Reed, it would bad a very lound and very sad statement. I’m not a conservative, but I have read enough and heard enough from that dishonest fellow to know that Cagle is the clear choice in this race.

Ralph Reed just can’t be trusted or believed. He has severely damaged the credibility of the Christian Coalition and the Republican Party. We’ve got to elect an experienced, proven conservative leader, Casey Cagle.

Lies and distortions from the Cagle Cabal. Casey is trying to direct attention away from the fact he served himself when he was supposed to serving the public. 900% increase in wealth in 4 years.

When faced with a choice to believe a liar like Casey Cagle or Zell Miller. I choose to believe Zell Miller. I trust Ralph. I will never vote for Casey Cagle. If he wins, I will vote Democrat in November. I will also not support my elected officials. In supporting Casey, the support crap like this. I say, throw them all out of office and put in the Democrats!!

Where and when did Cagle admit lying? Proof? And believe Zell? What did he do beside zig zagging more than Reed? Defending Clinton? Praising Hillary? Calling himself a Democrat still?
Reed lies about where he grew up. Reed lies about his involvement in the Mariana Islands and gambling issues.
Hey Howard and Debbie, answer me this. Your types say Ralph asked for forgiveness last night. If he did nothing wrong (according to him) why is he asking for forgiveness?
It seems convenient that when cornered with the truth, he somehow pleads stupidity. He used the same excuse on the Mariana Island debacle. He had no clue about child prostitution, sweat shops, and forced abortions….does Ralph bother to vett ANYTHING he gets involved in? Or is he that incompetent to get involved in multi-billion dollar deals without reading the fine print? Is he truly that stupid and gullible?
Reed supports illegal immigration (through the 90’s attempt at reform and defending W), supports forced abortions and child prostitution (actions with defending labor abuses in Mariana Islands), etc. Last night he even blamed a law firm for deceiving him. he couldn’t even bring himself to blame Abramoff. He blamed the whole deal on a law firm lying to him. Bill Gates’ father’s law firm I’m sure appreciates that.

Face it folks: Cagle and Reed are cut from the same cloth. Aren’t you tired of self-righteous hypocrites telling you how many “values” they have? Some things are self-evident, as are the characters of these two candidates.
Why not vote for somebody who cares more about doing a good job than adding the title to a belt full dubious notches and a pocket full of unreported cash?

With the latest ad, Cagle has crossed for sure into no-mans-land. He must want the nomination bad, for with this ad he has lost any chance of winning the general.
I will walk, and I predict many of the GOP base will do the same.
This as crosses a line. I cannot and will not vote for Cagle under any circumstances should he win.
This is the best worst example I have ever seen of negative campaigning. Cagle should be ashamed of the new level he has taken political discourse to.

I will vote Democrat before I vote for Cagle. I don’t like the way Reed has been treated and I will either not vote or vote straight Democraic ticket.

Tony, he backtracked as Cagle called it on the Taylor contribution. It was reported right here in the AJC.

Yeah, the truth hurts doesn’t it? Trust me, that’s nothing compared to what Democrats will do to Perdue and Reed if Reed is victorious next week…
If Reed somehow wins, I’m not voting for him in the General.
However, Casey Cagle will win and be a great addition to the team.

I hope Reed wins just so that the Republican Party twists in the winds of their own “conservative family values” by having the poster boy for hypocrasy near the top of the ticket. It’s a good reminder for people who vote straight party line that sometimes you don’t really want what you think you want.

I’m still trying to understand what is appealing about EITHER of these men, that we’d want to entrust any part of our state government to their authority.
Is either one concerned with anything beyond obtaining a title and position of influence to parlay into even more personal wealth? Does either one give a darn about the people and future of Georgia — beyond their own select group of country club pals and the church-in-the-pocket block vote? Any evidence of competence beyond the demonstrated skills of power-grab and hide-the-cash?

Philly,
Prove to me where Cagle lied about that Taylor money. And while you’re at it, compare where Reed in his own words in his book says he’s from compared to what he says on his website. He did not grow up in the North Georgia mountains.
Spurn advances? What are you talking about? It’s not hate against Reed. It’s hate against hypocrisy and flat out lying. It’s hate against deception and using Christ as a method of getting rich while exploiting others. I can go down the list of things again if you like of things Ralph either lies about or just hides behind Lisa Baron on. Anyone who can have such a smug straight face while continuing to lie and then profess the name of Christ on TV is just lower than low.

Cagle’as ad is full of lies and distortions. Reed did not sell out his Christian values. He kept a casinos from being built. The Chrisitan Coalition of Alabama was happy with his work. Check out www.reedfacts.com to see the letter
Reed did not support forced abortions and slave labor in the Mariannas. Reed, at the request of now Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, sent out a flyer to help prevent the labor bosses from imposing a union there. When Cagle attacked Reed on it, he attacked GOP Gov. Bob Riley who was a Alabama Congressman at tht time.
Cagle has just divided the Georgia GOP. The elected officials that endorsed Cagle are responsible for his outrageous ads too. They knew what kind of campaign he was going to run and put their stamp of approval on it when they endorsed him. Gov. Perdue has not said a word about it. I will not forget that. If Cagle wins, there will be a lot of activists like me that will vote Democrat to send a message and make a point.
I know a lot of people in churches in Sen. John Wiles and Judson Hill’s district that will vote against them because of their part in the race. Wiles has GOP opposition and Hill has Democratic.
Better choices, I saw your guy on the debates. He needs a new hairstyle really bad. He looks like Hilter without the mustache.

Actually Philly I am not Bill Simon. But thank you for playing. I find it quite humorous you try so hard to find out who I am. I’ve gone by Tony just about my entire life. And I do not hate Christians. I hate the hypocrisy that so-called Christian leaders like Reed breeds.
You see Philly, Reed DID support forced abortions and child prostitution. He defended the status quo lifestyle in these islands which spread abortion and prostitution. He said the existing lifestyle there was fine the way it was and condemned the unions for attempting to bring some ethical and legal standards to this place. While in no way am I pro-union, I’d say in this case, THEY were the ones trying to raise the standards for these people while Reed defended child exploitation and abortions on demand…demand of the employers. It’s a recurring pattern with Reed. He can conveniently say he had no clue about the abortions, etc. But he cannot hide from the fact that when it comes to a ‘job’ he only focuses on the millions rather than see what the cause is truly about. He could care less about the people on this island and the life they are subject to. He didn’t even bother to check to see if Bibles even made it to these people. He never bothered to check with the Indian tribes to see if the money did or did not come from gambling sources. In his fear he’d be looked upon as a hypocrite for even talking to these people, he asked the law firm and took their word for it.
You see this is the pattern with Reed. He takes up a cause without fully understanding the cause. He doesn’t stand for the people in these causes. All he does is cash the check and perform the work done. That’s all fine for the normal business world. But for a guy who comes out and wears his religion on his sleeve and pretends to represent his faith in his actual work and espouse those values in his work and personal life, THAT is the problem. He then comes out and acts like nothing was wrong, no lies were told, and no one was misled. That is NOT the case. He truly profits on deception of Christians. If he was truly about his faith and beliefs, he would not be taking all of these jobs without being a proper steward of these groups’ money. Clearly the work he performs is no where near the amount he charges for it. He charges millions to make phone calls and send letters. I’ve been in politics long enough to know that this charge he issues is not a responsible charge for Christian groups. He has basically prostituted out hundreds of thousands of Christians to make his millions. Even Pat Robertson himself mentioned that there is a question of whether Reed serves Mammon or God. Ralph’s old mentor and leader questions him. What does that say? His former employees work for the other candidate? What does that say? The people who knew him most and worked with him constantly on a daily basis leaving him like that….speaks volumes.

Wow. Just when I think the American voter can’t get any more stupid or shallow. A hairstyle? Are you kidding me? If what matters to you is the cut & blow dry, that’s just too sad. I’m going to vote for the guy who’s interested in doing the JOB, not in whether he impresses you with his appearance.

From Peach Pundit:
Published by Erick July 11th, 2006 in Primaries, Republicans, Lt. Governor The Reed camp has issued a hard hitting response to the Cagle ad that gives me the most qualms — the one about the Northern Marianas. I can’t find it on Ralph’s website so I’ll put it below the fold.
Cagle Ad Promotes H.R. 730, Clinton Wage Measure Opposed by GOP Congress That Granted Amnesty to Foreign Workers Casey Cagle’s latest negative ad attacking Ralph Reed actually promotes a 1999 bill backed by Bill Clinton and union bosses that would have imposed federal wage and immigration laws on a U.S. territory. The bill included a provision granting amnesty to foreign workers. Cagle is so desperate to distract attention from his own ethical problems—like voting to benefit banks while running a bank and failing to pay his taxes—that he sides with Clinton and union bosses against Ralph Reed and Republicans who opposed the Clinton plan, including Congressman Bob Riley of Alabama and House Majority Leader Dick Armey.
Fact: As a U.S. Commonwealth, the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) were covered by existing federal health and safety laws. Federal labor, health and safety laws, including the Occupational Safety and Hazard Act of 1970, apply to all U.S. territories, including the Northern Marianas Islands. Cagle’s claim that sweat shops, forced abortion or child prostitution are legal on a U.S. territory is absurd. (OSHA applicability: Occupational Safety and Health Administration, “OSH Act of 1970 as amended, Jurisdictional Note,” www.osha.gov/pls/oshaweb/owadisp.showdocument?ptable=OSHACT&p_id=2743.)
If OSHA and other labor laws were not adequately enforced, the blame lay with the Clinton administration. Labor law violations in the CNMI “are violations of federal laws, which the U.S. government has sole or concurrent jurisdiction.” Bill Clinton’s Attorney General, Janet Reno, refused to appoint an assistant Attorney General in the CNMI to enforce the law. (Congressional Record, October 2, 1997, p. E1897)
Fact: The bill Cagle promotes was backed by Bill Clinton and Big Labor, and opposed by the Republican Congress. Bill Clinton first proposed imposing federal wage and immigration law on the CNMI in a letter to the Governor of the Commonwealth on May 30, 1997.
Liberal Congressman George Miller (D-CA) introduced the Clinton plan as H.R. 730 in 1999. It had nothing to do with human rights. It was a federal wage and immigration bill backed by far-left labor unions and liberal members of Congress. It has been reintroduced in the 109th Congress as H.R. 5550, again by Miller (career AFL-CIO rating, 93%; career ACU rating, 4%).
The Clinton-backed plan did nothing to protect workers. GOP Senator Frank Murkowski declared that Democrats “respond to concerns over workers…by suggesting the answer is to raise the minimum wage. The response to allegations of abuse of workers, especially women, is not to propose raising the minimum wage. Paying a person more does not justify abuse.” (Congressional Record, Oct. 8, 1997. Page S10649)
Cagle repeats allegations against garment manufacturers in the CNMI made by a liberal coalition that included the AFL-CIO, the United Mine Workers, the United Food Workers, UNITE (the garment workers’ union), and the Sheet Metal Workers. (“Northern Mariana Island Covenant Implementation Act,” Senate Hearing No. 106-326, 106th Congress, 1st Session, p. 92 [1999])
Fact: The Clinton bill that Cagle promotes granted amnesty to foreign workers and would have wreaked havoc on the economy. The Clinton administration bill Cagle promotes granted amnesty to foreign workers. It stated that after three years, foreign workers could obtain permanent U.S. resident status, after which “the permanent resident alien may engage in any lawful activity, including employment, anywhere in the United States.” (H.R. 730, Section 10) Miller’s legislation would give “foreign workers in the CNMI a shot at U.S. residency, and ultimately citizenship.” (Pacific Daily News, June 12, 2006; USCIS, “Guide to Naturalization,” pp. 22-24)
The bill overturned the local wage for foreign workers enacted by the duly elected government of the Commonwealth. It would have devastated the local economy, unemployed thousands of workers and caused significant economic dislocation. A GAO report found phasing out guest workers would decimate the CNMI economy. (GAO Report, May 12, 2000, Report GGD-00-97/B283950) An Interior Department report concluded “the economy of the Marianas would be severely damaged” and that the “economy would be sent into a catastrophic contraction.” (Washington Times, March 21, 2001)
Fact: The mailing by the Traditional Values Coalition praised Congressman (now Alabama Governor) Bob Riley for opposing Bill Clinton and Big Labor.
Cagle’s ad criticizes a mailing by the Traditional Values Coalition printed by Millennium Marketing that praised conservative Republican Congressman Bob Riley as “one of the strongest advocates in Washington for religious freedom and liberty.” It thanked him for opposing H.R. 730 and for standing up “for the Ten Commandments…and the right of Christian ministries and organizations to spread the message of the gospel around the world.” (Traditional Values Coalition, Alabama mailer, August, 1999) The Traditional Values Coalition is a pro-family organization that works with 50,000 churches nationwide, as well as missionary groups in the Northern Marianas. Cagle is so desperate that he is maligning a pro-family organization promoting Christian missions.
Cagle is so intent on misrepresenting the TVC mailer that the version placed on his campaign website is in low resolution so it cannot be read by voters. Cagle knows that if voters can read the mailing themselves they will see that it praised Riley for opposing a liberal Clinton administration measure.
Nor was Riley alone. House Majority Leader Dick Armey wrote that the Clinton administration’s proposed changes “are counter to the principles of the Republican Party, and this Congress has no intention of voting on such legislation.” (House Majority Leader Dick Armey to Governor Frolian Tenorio, February 19, 1998) Congressman Dana Rohrabacher called the Clinton proposals “politically driven attacks” by liberal Democrats and labor unions. (Congressional Record, October 2, 1997, p. E1897) To argue that a mailing by a pro-life organization that praised a 100% pro-life Congressman for opposing a Clinton bill backed by union bosses that promoted amnesty constitutes a defense of forced abortion is absurd and despicable.
Fact: Republicans have always supported allowing the Northern Marianas to set local wages to support their economy.
The 1976 Marianas Commonwealth Covenant allowed the Islands to set local wages to support their economy, and was signed by President Gerald Ford. (Public Law 94-241, 1976). President Ronald Reagan ratified this policy by executive order in 1986. (Presidential Proclamation 5564, Federal Register, 51, No. 216, November 7, 1986, p. 40399). By siding with Bill Clinton and the labor unions, Cagle is criticizing a policy that was ratified by Ronald Reagan and supported by a Republican Congress.
Fact: Ralph Reed strongly favors human rights, and has always opposed human rights abuses like forced abortion and human sex trafficking.
Ralph Reed has always opposed forced abortion. He is 100% pro-life and has been endorsed by the Georgia Right to Life Committee. Cagle’s ad suggesting otherwise is utterly false and will be rejected by the voters of Georgia.
Reed supported the Freedom from Religious Persecution Act of 1997, which created a special White House office to monitor religious persecution around the world and authorized sanctions against nations that violated human rights. (Knoxville News-Sentinel, May 24, 1997)
Reed is the only candidate for Lt. Governor with a specific plan to combat human sex trafficking, including child prostitution. His proposal notes: “Child prostitution and sex slave trafficking is a growing and major international problem that now touches Georgia.” Reed has proposed the passage of “specific legislation outlawing the practice and making it easier for law enforcement to arrest and bring to justice those who promote and participate in it.” (Ralph Reed, “A Safe and Secure Georgia,” May 1, 2006)
