The wild man from Sugar Creek who killed a mockingbird

Jim Martin, one of five Democrats running for lieutenant governor, on Wednesday put up the first TV ad of his campaign.

It’s an introductory spot that focuses on his childhood fight against polio, and creates the feel of Georgia in the 1950s, or earlier. That sense is magnified when the camera focuses on Martin himself.

Maybe it’s just us. You can judge by clicking here. But doesn’t Martin — with the straight dark hair and glasses — strike you as a cross between Gene Talmadge and Atticus Finch?

The post about Jim Martin has been up almost 24 hours and no one has yet to respond. Does this mean that 1) no one knows who Martin is? 2) no one cares who Martin is? or 3)Everyone knows that the only way a Democrat will win is for Reed to win the Republican primary? Either way, Reed is the best thing that could happen for Georgia Democrats in November and Jim Martin is about exciting as a turtle on Ritalin.

Jim Martin would make an excellent Lt. Governor. He served for many years in the Georgia House and was Commissioner, Department of Human Resources (DHR), which employs over 20,000 folk. This combination of legislative and administrative experience gives him an understanding of Georgia’s state government that is greater than any other candidates, Demoncrat or Republican.

Well if you throw out the D’s and the R’s and just look at the man, Jim Martin looks like a good candidate to me. I am voting in the Democratic primary but I have not made up my mind on this race.

Jim Martin is my choice for the Democrat nomination. He will really do well outside of Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton counties(not!). He is a very liberal, pro-abortion, pro-gay rights and pro-tax increase Atlanta Democrat. Can anyone spell Wyche Fowler? Any conservative Republican will easily beat him.

Jim Martin’s years of service to GA* should be reviewed, not his physical attributes. Jim’s record affirms integrity, moral values, and action-not just rhetoric: Viet Nam Vet, Church Elder, Works for ALL families of both sides of the aisles, business owners, children, and the economy. His honest POSITIVE AD reflects those dear values-and the ad is captioned for deaf and seniors. (How many other candidates provided equal access?). *I am an Army vet (nuclear, biological, and chem. specialist 54E/54C), and I trust Jim Martin’s commitment to protect all Georgians. Jim successfully worked for governors’ Republican and Democrats on real tough issues, not the wedge issues to distract us from GA’s REAL problems. As a small business owner, I saw insurance go sky high, and often not available to us “ little people”. Recent polls show JIM leading all the Lt. Gov. contenders because he has a proven record of doing the right things: Jim DOES NOT pander to lobbyists, greed, or power. Yes he maybe be Atticus, and he is STILL THE BEST person for GA’s Lt. Governor.

I liked the Jim Martin ad. It’s refreshingly honest, caring, and positive ad. He’s got my vote. I am tired of all the blame, name, and shame gaming from all the ads (Rep. & Dems). I want someone able to do the job, and Jim’s work shows he is the most capable person. I want a politician to say “I AM RESPONSIBLE”, not play the victim or give excuses like ‘I didn’t know’- Reed’s disingenuous ‘apology-and he kept the millions of dollars from exploiting Native Americans and Christians. The he said –she said game of the governors race doesn’t help. I want the shame game to stop-telling exaggerations and lies most of the Ads (both DEM and REP). Maybe I’m naïve- but how about a candidate who is honest, objective, and ethical. That is Jim Martin.

Actually, the AJC shot the mocking bird by missing the whole point of the Jim Martin ad. It shows he hasn’t forgotten the people-as many politicians do thru greed, lobbyists, and power. The ad represents a new era in politics: having a heart, brain, and courage to do what is morally right- not what is necessarily popular. Maybe AJC political insider should have named the story: Not the Tin, Lion, or Straw man- but the Right Man for Lt. Gov.

“To Kill a mocking bird” represented the popular, morally wrong injustices being on trial and one brave lawyer took the case- no matter the cost. Who will fight for justice, families, and children? Reed? Nope-he took money to rip off innocent Christians. Cagle? Not. Only Jim Martin has the qualities to do the morally right things. He is the most honest hard working reliable politician I ever met-and I’ve met a load of them. The ad showed Jim’s values-an honest, moral man.

Oh my… rational postings? Much different than the crazy rantings from Reed supports under another heading here.

The Republican true conservative party IS LOST!!

It seems that Jim Martin might be interested in efficient, effective government… all Republicans can talk about lately is gay marriage. Tell me who really thinks gay marrage is the #1 issue of our time. The Republican party has gone off the deep end. I’ll be supporting rational pragmatic thinkers in November not fundamentalist wacos. Jim Martin strikes me as a pragmatic thinker. Hope he makes it to the November election so I can vote for him.

I know nothing of Martin’s religious beliefs, but after interacting with him regularly when I worked at the Capitol (for Repubs), I can honestly say he treats people the way Christians are supposed to be treated. His demeanor, actions, and attitude are what we need in a Lt. Governor. His resume of service is outstanding, yet he doesn’t shove things down peoples’ throats.

The republican candidates—-talk a lot about Christianity, faith, and service. Neither compares favorably with Jim’s record of service.

that should have read “he treats people the way Christians are supposed to treat people.”
