An outtake from the Abramoff report
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Every document like the one put out by the Senate Indian Affairs Committee today has a line or two in it that illuminates.
Let’s set it up for you. Reed’s most important task for the Coushattas was a campaign in Texas to close down an illegal casino operated by the Tigua tribe of El Paso. Yes, it was on the other side of a big state. But it was still competition.
After the casino closed, the man most responsible for its closing, Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff — one of Reed’s close friends — contacted Tigua representatives and offered to help reopen it. For $4 million or so.
Marc Schwartz, the Tigua spokesman, questioned Abramoff about his friendship with Reed — whom they viewed as an uncompromising “ideologue.”
“Schwartz recalled that Abramoff laughlingly replied, ‘As far as the cash goes,’” the report said.
Then again, to another Tigua official, Abramoff described Reed as “crazy, like other folks in the Christian Coalition.”
If you’re looking for a complete copy of the Senate document, go here.
But you’re in Washington and are looking for a friend, get a dog.

Abramoff made a damn good living knowing who could be bought, and for how much. Abramoff knows a slimy hyocrite when he sees one - birds of a feather flock together.
Like Abramoff, his little buddy Ralphie Reed is trash.

Read the report last night. Biggest waste of taxpayer money in my opinion. Nothing new in it that anyone cares about. Reed was a third party contractor for Preston Gates, did what he was asked to do, They were pleased with his work. He was suppose to be paid by funds other than from gambling interests.
I think the report shows that Reed was used by his former friend Abramoff.
But Reed is charged with nothing illegal, no wrong doing. He has said that if he had known then what we all know now he would have rejected that work.
But really what’s the big deal here. I know the AJC would like to knock him out with this as would all of the liberal media.
But my prediction is that Republican primary voters will care more about Cagle giving $1,000 to Mark Taylor than they do this.
So get over it, please.

Hey, Tater, you moron …
1) The report came from a Senate committee that is run by Republicans.
2) Ralph Reed may be a lot of things, but a naive victim of manipulation is not one of them.
3) Based on the substantial abuse of non-profits outlined in the report, the odds of Ralph being charged by the IRS are quite high.

You’re probably right Tate.

@ RV,
Good points. Bottomline, Ralphie is supposedly a Christian, doing the Lord’s work - is the Lord’s work ripping off Indian tribes, or helping someone else ripoff Indians? But look for the IRS to slow-walk prosecuting Ralphie’s criminal intent in establishing all these front organizations that scam the stupid sheep and line his pockets.
The Pharisitical KKKhristianity practiced by Reed and his many doltish sycophants is trash.
These people have no understanding about ethics or morals or living in a community if they condone Ralphie’s behavior.

Reed did nothing wrong and the report cleared him of any wrong doing. Get over it. Criminal charges are not forth coming and will never be.
It was a loss for the Cagle Campaign and his supporters. They have been running a campaign based on fear. They have been saying for months that Reed will be indicted and will drag down the GOP Ticket as happened in 1996.
Casey Cagle, where is the beef?
Cagle is ethically challenged. He increased his wealth over 900 % in four years while supposedly being a public servant (State Senator serving on the Banking Committee). He went from renting tuxedos to President of a Bank. It is clear that Cagle served himself. If he increased his wealth that much in four years as a State Senator, imagine what he could do as Lt. Governor…
God Hates Trash, what is the matter? Are you upset because Reed is against gay marriage and you can not marry your partner? I see the same type of hate filled rhetoric all the time from gay activists about Christians and politicians against gay marriage.

Republican Voter, typical Cagle bs. You leave out an important detail. Sen. John McCain was chair of that committee. McCain hates Reed because of what happened in 2000 in South Carolina with a push poll about McCain having a black baby during the Presidential Primary. You do remember that don’t you? You Cagle people bring that up all the time. If Reed had done anything wrong, McCain would have nailed him on it and you know it!!!!!
As far as the abuse of non profits, no where in the report did it accuse Reed of abusing them. The abuse allegations were directed at Abramoff.
Just another example of how Cagle and his supporters do not care about the truth or facts… They just continue to use scare tactics and distortions to cover up their candidate’s lack of ethics.

Hatefilled smug fat angry Debbie, you - of all people - have absolutely no right to tell other people who they can and cannot marry.
Just because your life is a wreck doesn’t give you the right to interfere with others’ pursuits of happiness.
By the way, your fawning support of Ralphie shows you have very poor judgment about people.

Let us please look at this thing logically. Does anyone out there actually think that Ralph Reed has no stain attatched to him with his connections to Abramoff? Is anyone that nieve? Didn’t everyone see the pic of him in front of that plane, and who was in the pic with him? Good grief! several of the folks in that pic have already been indicted! One of them was convicted just this week!
What in the World are we to think? Of course, reed was in this thing, and up to his eyeballs. And, I fear that the only thing that Ralph Reed is sorry of is getting caught.

Cobb GOPer, those past views are when he was representing our current President and Vice President as Southeastern Regional Director of the Bush-Cheney Campaign. Check it out yourself. How long do you think Reed would have stayed employed had he spouted his own personal views?
Cagle was not too concerned about illegal immigration wheh he voted with Gov. Barnes and 27 Democrats AGAINST a GOP Drivers License Bill that would have identified non-citizens on their driver’s license. This bill would have kept them from illegally obtaining state services.
And there is yet more to come about Cagle and being ethically challenged.

It is pretty sad that all you folks spend more time trading words with each other and say little of value. If you folks are any indication of the mentallity of our nation, we are in grave trouble.
Seems like we are growing increasingly less tolerant of folks differences, when we should becoming more accepting of and learning about each other.
I worry about the world I am bring twins into in July. I have lived in this state all my life, and have never witness such hate, and I grew up a religous minority in a small south Georgia town.

Reed received more than $4 million from Abramoff and his cronies to fight various state gambling initiatives and claims he didn’t know the money was coming from “gambling” interests. Who did he think was bankrolling such efforts? The Vatican?
Unfortunately, Reed is either lying through his teeth or his professed ignorance makes him too dumb to be Lieutenant Governor.
Reading the 373-page report is something every Reed supporter must do before they continue defending him. And then they have to answer the question: How could Reed really not know that all those dollars were coming from the Indian tribes with gambling interests?
Reminds me of the famous scene in the classic movie “Casablanca” when Capt. Renault says: “I’m shocked! Shocked to find there’s gambling going on in here!” An employee of Rick’s Cafe hands him some cash and says: “Your winnings, Sir.” Capt. Renault replies: “Oh. Thank you very much.”

Mike E, I read the entire report yesterday morning.
Reed made it clear to Abramoff that he could not take money that came from gambling interests. Abramoff filtered the money. The money came from legimate companies.
What Reed is guilty of is trusting a good friend that ended up betraying him.
Face it, you Cagle supporters did not get what you wanted.
You could answer one question about Cagle for me. How did someone increase his wealth in four years 900 % as a State Senator. Cagle goes from renting tuxedos to bank president in four years while serving on the Senate Banking committee. Can you name me the times someone has moved up that fast?

Debbie, you really are a Reed diehard. Only by having your head in the sand could you conclude that the Senate report exonerates Reed. What is shows is that he was very careful to cloak his income from Abramoff by suggesting various conduits controlled by their mutual friends. He knew where the money came from; and he wanted to avoid accepting it directly to protect his lily-white reputation with the Christian community.
Let’s face it: had the ministers and pastors seen the correspondence between Abramoff and Reed prior to lending themselves to Reed’s campaigns they never would have agreed to participate.
Reed brazenly used those Christians as he lined his own pockets with millions that he knew came from Indian tribes who were interested in killing competition with their gaming casinos.
Either Reed knew about the source of those gaming funds or he didn’t. Either way, he’s doomed. If he knew, then he is a liar. If he didn’t know, he’s an idiot. Come to think of it, there’s a third possibility: he’s a lying idiot!

The only thing thing that Reed has made clear is that Reed will be served a subpeona to testify before the US Senate Finance Committee and explain why he accepted cash from the Tribes through many not for profit organizations to his own for-profit organization, Century Strategies. But then again, with all his denials, I guess he didn’t know the money was coming from a non-profit organization. Was any of this activity contrary to IRS regs? Should any of this money have been taxed? Is Reed clean because he didn’t know?

Debbie,
if you can read that report and still think Ralph is worthwhile to elected office you’re as pathetic as he is.
There does not have to be criminal activity to prove he is a liar and a hypocrite. You and Ralph and all the rest of the gang kept claiming Ralph was in the dark and had no idea this money was tied to gambling. The report showed he requested the money go through a conduit. You don’t request that unless you know something is suspicious or questionable. Ralph was asked if he wanted the money directly and he said it needed to go through another party. This was Norquist. So if there was a grand conspiracy to use and dupe Ralph, it was by everyone involved including Norquist. Hard to believe that all of these close friends of Ralph would use him like that. And the fact that he told Abramoff the money needed to go through a third party proves he knew something wasn’t right or he would have taken the check directly.
You see Debbie, you can pull the Clinton defense and make the focus on whether some law was broken. I could care less. The fact remains that he lied to everyone - his followers, the Alabama Christian groups, the media, his campaign, and the people of Georgia. He knew where the money came from and used the laundering tactic of a drug dealer to pretend like the ‘evil’ gambling money didn’t touch his hands. When all is said and done it did touch his hands. Quite a bit of it. And he knew about it and he lied and said he was duped. Again, he’s claimed it was just Abramoff who duped him. If duping is true then he has Grover to blame as well. Hard to believe this vast right wing conspiracy was against Ralph and him not know about it.
Debbie harps on some allegation that Cagle has lied on various issues but when Reed lies, she says no laws were broken and flips the story to Reed’s opponent. Begala and Carville would be proud Debbie. You’d make a great PR person in the Clinton household. Now GA sees Ralph for what he truly is - a liar, hypocrite, crook, and someone who uses Christians for profit and blames his so-called friends instead of taking responsibility.
Go Ralph go! Keep on going and don’t come back!

Tony, Bowersville, You need to look at your own candidate, Casey Cagle.
There is nothing wrong in Reed using his connection to make money. He was NOT a duly elected public servant as Cage was. Bowersville, get over it. Reed will not be indicted.
Reed may be called as a witness. Bowersville, you clearly think that just because someone is called as a witness to criminal activity they are conspirators to a crime.
Tell me how did Cagle increase his wealth by 900% in four years as State Senator? He went from renting tuxedos to President of a Bank.
Given Cagle’s being ethically challenged, I can see why you guys are trying to distract from Cagle by yelling about Reed.

Tony, Cagle is the liar. He recently admitted that Taylor did not threaten him as he stated before. Cagle lied on his financial disclosure form to puff up contributions he had not received. Cagle told numerous stories on why he missed important votes or why he killed Tort Reform in 2004.

Reading this confirms what I suspected. Most AJC readers are socialists anyway. Don’t you know it was evil for Reed to make money. No one should be able to make a lot of money in this country according to them.
What’s amazing is that anyone should care about this period, or that the government should have wasted money, probably millions, to satisfy McCain’s personal political hatred of Reed who helped Bush defeat McCain.
Bottom line—liberals hate Reed because they know he gets things done and he will make sure the Republican agenda prevails in Georgia.
What is pathetic is that Cagle has joined in with liberals and particularly the liberal media in their attacks.
I’d rather stand with Reed than with Cagle who is complicit with the AJC in trying to destroy Reed, who has done so much for our party.
I have no problems with Reed making money or being successful. Thank God we can do that in this country despite the socialist who run this paper.

Debbie,
Why can’t you just stick to the topic at hand rather than regurgitating what Ralphie tells you to? Are you that far up his rear end that you cannot see what a crook Reed is? Are you too slow to read my post? I could care less if he broke the law. He lied about being involved. He said he had no clue the money was from casinos or gambling interests. That’s far fetched since he made sure the money was sent through his buddy Norquist. He was complacent in the process. He knew where the money came from. He lied about it. He deceived a lot of Alabama Christian groups. Lying to church leaders and fellow Christians to make a quick buck is a shady character flaw for someone asking for so much help from Christians. He missused tax status so I’m sure the IRS will be looking into that as well.
Fact is Reed lied. He lied to the people who believed him and believed in him. He lied to Christians. If the man will deceive his own followers for the almighty dollar, what will he do for Georgians? I mean how pathetic can you be to sell out your own people? And then to say you had no idea it was gambling money. Obviously he did know because he made sure the money went through Grover’s group. You don’t launder money unless there is a reason to cover something up.
Answer that Debbie. Answer why Ralph said he had no clue what this was about when he clearly made moves to cover his tracks. You don’t do something so deceptive for being duped. And if Ralph was duped, he was completely stupid. So again, reading the report shows him a liar and a hypocrite…the worst kind since he sold his own people out for money. But to humor you and go along with your ignorant belief he was duped, how would any businessman take over $1 million dollars and not check where it came from? Why did it have to go through another group rather than directly from the client? If another group, why not Abramoff? Why Grover? And doesn’t that make good ol’ Grover just as guilty of duping Reed? What kind of people does he call his friends? Judging by Abramoff, Scanlon, Safavian, and you Debbie, I’d say he’s either hanging out in the wrong circles OR he’s the worst judge of character out there. You know what they say about birds of a feather don’t you?

With regard to Cagle, he’s a conman too, just not as good or as experienced (or purty) as Ralphie (that Ralphie shore has a purty mouth, that goes over big in rural Georgia).
Here’s some basic math - being that you are Georgia edumacated, you might not understand it - but you said yourself 4 years ago Cagle had to rent a tuxedo, so if he has nine times as much money as he had 4 years ago, Cagle ain’t stole anywhere near as much as Ralphie has from sheep like you.
