Says Reed: Put me on the ticket, and Democrats won't have time to attack Sonny Perdue

Below is the best line from today’s Wall Street Journal article, written by Jeanne Cummings. It take a New York-conservative look at the Ralph Reed-Casey Cagle race for lieutenant governor:

“Wrapping up a Republican Party meeting here, Mr. Reed makes a stab at turning his own controversial candidacy into an asset: By putting him on the Republican ticket, the party faithful will be doing a favor for Gov. Sonny Perdue, who is seeking re-election. How so? Democrats will spend precious resources trying to defeat Mr. Reed and they won’t be able to ‘just key on Sonny,’ Mr. Reed says.”

I bet Gov. Perdue doesn’t like that spin! In a year where honesty and integrity seem to be vital for any campaign, who in their right mind would want to run on the same ticket with Ralph Reed? With all the money he has raked in as a questionable lobbyist, I wonder if some of that cash came from the Dems who surely paid him to run!

Right now I bet the Dems are strategizing how they can get some cross overs to vote in the GOP primary to make sure Ralph wins.

A reed candidacy guarantees a Dem gov!

I’m pretty disappointed in Giuliani for having poor enough judgment to stand behind Reed. What’s he thinking?

I just wrote about this today, and I’m wondering how Karl Rove’s move back into politics is going to play in this election as well.

A vote for Ralph Reed in the primary is a vote against Sonny Perdue. The only shot the Dems have at Sonny is to hope the GOP is dumb enough to nominate Ralph Reed.

He is the Republican Cynthia McKinney.

I never cease to be amazed by the Reed haters. Surely Giuliani’s endorsement of Reed and his coming out for him indicates that the Republican establishment puts no stock in the charges against Reed. Why would Rudy put his credibility on the line otherwise?

Get over it. The charges were always exagerated. Reed has said that if he had to do it over again he would not have taken the business. He apologized. Enough said. Move on. Get over it.

This has been exagerated by the liberal left, their media helpers and the only sad thing here is that another republican, Cagle, has jumped on board and hurt his own party.

That was a joke, right? Lame lame lame.

So does this mean all Perdue’s “issues” within the Hispanic/ immigrant community here in GA will just go “poof” and vanish given Righteous Ralphie too? Perdue could only wish. THAT’S only just begun.

We would love to have Ralph on the ballot come November. That would ensure a complete takeover of both the Gov. and the LT Gov office, and probably alot more. Come on Mr Scandalakis, run. OOpps I meant Reed.

Only Ralph Reed can be stupid enough to think that his rationale for being on the ticket makes sense to anyone.

This man is a national disgrace and it’s time that Georgia comes to her right mind.

All over the country, Democrats are killing Republicans with ties to Abramoff. Why in the world are some in the GOP so determined to bring our state into this mess by supporting Ralph Reed?

Come on already…

Ray McBerry, a flagger announced to run against Sonny Purdue in the primary Thursday. He will get about 10% of the vote that normally would have stayed home. These ultra conservative voters are also upset with Reed. Potentially thier vote against Reed and Purdue might make a difference in the LT. Gov Primary.

It takes a real idiot to suggest that Ray McBerry won’t gain but 10% of the vote. It would be a stretch to say he will win, but I’d bet a dollar to a donut hole he gets 1/3 of the vote. Further those who vote for Ray, should he lose, will be voting Democratic in the fall. I’m a life long Republican and I wouldn’t vote for Sonny for dog catcher, and I assure you there are a lot more people that feel that way than most think. Remember Roy Barnes was guaranteed to win by all the surveys, but you will see thousands of McBerry signs just like you did Purdue signs last election. Ray will motivate the Grassroots Republicans who would have voted in the Democratic Primary otherwise.

Alot of Georgia’s Republicans, Like Gov Perdue, were Democrats, before making a switch to Republican Party, a few years ago. Most of the party switcher type of politicians are only interested in their own well being, and will change parties at the drop of a hat, so they can be with the “in crowd”. True Republicans and Democrats do not jump parties, especially when their party might be unpopular. THe only hope for Georgia and the USA is to vote the fake Republicans OUT! I bet ole Sonny will go back to being a Democrat, when The GOP gets kicked to the curb in the legislature. As a Democrat, I don’t normally agree with any republican, but Sonny Perdue has done a few things worthwhile, which is showing that he is true Democrat in the closet. Do us a favor Governor, admit that you have been a Democrat all along, and stop hiding behind the GOP. If you don’t, then you may be out of the Gov Mansion soon.

Phillip, before you start casting stones you might want to check out Cagle. He had no problem receiving contributions from lobbyists or trial lawyers.

You Caglites are really humerous. The only campaign you run is Reed is the devil and will be arrested. Reed will hurt the GOP ticket. That is bs and you know it. Cagle has no message other than Reed is evil and I am not Ralph Reed. That is really pathetic.

Ralph will help the GOP ticket in November. When Christian Conservatives turn out the GOP wins. Who better to get out that vote than Reed? Me think the Dems doeth protest too much. They are very shrewd or very stupid when it comes to Reed.

Reed is one of the most hated men by the liberals. They don’t like his strong stance on issues. He is very controversial and outspoken and makes waves. That is what I want in Lt. Governor or elected official. I want a in your face type of leader. That is Reed not Cagle.

The November campaign will be a nasty one no matter who is on the ticket. Only a fool would think otherwise. We need a fighter not a wuss as Lt. Governor nominee. We need someone that will take the slings and arrows that come his way and not waiver. That is not “Cave In Cagle”. Check out Cagle’s record under Gov. Barnes and see how many times he caved in under pressure.

Jane, the flagger vote was not enought to make a difference in the Sixth District Congressional Race with Price and Lamutt. They flagged Price every chance they got and it did not make a difference. If you think 10% will be the difference in the LT. Governor’s Race then you are dreaming.

Savannah Thinker, Reed broke no laws and I don’t believe in caving in and running away from controversy. Reed is a fighter and he will not run awaywhen he did nothing wrong.

The GOP concedes way too much to the liberals and gives up the fight. I am sick and tired of that mind set in elected officials. Obviously that is the type of LT. Governor you want and you have made the correct choice in supporting Cagle.

DeLay fought as long as he could but when he had two of his aides pleading guilty to charge in the Abramoff scandel, he felt he had not choice. Tell me, how many of Reed’s aides or employees have been charged with crimes?

I strongly disagree with the notion that the Dems will have a difficult time with two candidates to attack. But remember there is a chance for a third too!

For the most ethically challenged ticket possible the GOP needs to make sure they nominate Bill Stephens as well.

That is the best way to ensure that the Constitutional offices are held by Cathy Cox, Greg Hecht and Shyam Reddy.

Welcome to a complete nightmare, Georgia…

This is going to a banner year for elections all across the country, both sides of the aisle. From Katherine Harris in Florida, to Ralph Reed in Georgia and the week-end Mayoral election in New Orleans, the political cartoonist will be having a field day. Harris is no longer the golden girl, Reed is a lightening rod for controversy and in New Orleans they can’t seem to bus people out of a city below below sea level in hurricane but they can bus them in to make sure a certain race wins the election. And we question all the voter apathy we’re seeing this year?

Liberals hate Reed because they are afraid he might just do what Republicans say they stand for. They don’t want that kind of America. What’s sad are the few Republicans who join in the liberal attack on Reed like the Cagle campaign.

Admitedly not all Republican’s are social conservatives, but Reed has shown his savy in many areas. He gets things done and he will help solidify the Republican revolution in Georgia.

I very much doubt Dems will cross over to the Republican primary. They have far too much at stake in their own with Cox and Taylor.

I agree that the endorsement of Giuliani signals that Republican leaders do not think much of the charges against Reed. They are trumped up by the liberal media. It is just too sad that some Republicans buy into all that.

I can assure you I will protect my majority in my county and my state. And that means ralph Reed not being on the ballot. I have been around too long and worked too hard to get where we are to have an ambitious little punk come and undo everything in one run. Ralph set us back with Scandalakis previously. Milner, and Ralston were sure to win. Then came Ralphs Body Bag tactics. Mr. Reed get out.

By Savannah Thinker

Thank you Republican County Chairman, I wish that more people thought the way that you did. And you are right, David Ralston would surely be our Attorney General had Reed not gotten involved in Skandalakis’ campaign.

Ralph Reed’s days as a free man are dwindling. As the investigations move forward, that’s just another day closer to the handcuffs coming for him…

Come on GOP, don’t be stupid. I bet you people think Jack Abramoff is innocent too?

Republican County Chairman, I know many County GOP Chairman and they do not think like you do. In fact most of the officers in the largest GOP counties in Georgia support Reed. Tell me what county are you from, if in fact you are county chairman. Your posting could be just another feeble attempt at dirty tricks by the Cagle campaign. After all we could say we are anyone on this blog now can’t we? How pathetic. It seems that is all the Cagle side has, rumors, attack Ralph and dirty tricks.

Tell me are you going to support Reed if he wins the nomination. I can assure you he will win the primary. So learn to deal with it!!

Speaking of ambitious little punk, that describes Cagle perfectedly. I have too, worked hard for the party and do not want someone weak like Cagle as the GOP nominee, but I will support him if he wins.

Savannah Thinker, what evidence do you or any Cagle supporter have that Reed is guilty of a crime? We have been hearing this bs for over a year and no charges have been filed. Put up or shut up. Let’s see the evidence.

The Cagle camp knows nothing is forthcoming. They continue to spread LIES and innuendo. That is all Cagle has to offer. What a pathetic little man he is.

As a Democrat, I can say in no uncertain terms that I absolutely DO NOT want Ralph Reed to be the Republican nominee for Lt. Governor. To me, he is a dangerous radical, unworthy of holding any political office. And, the sooner he is defeated, the better for Georgia and America. No one, and I mean no one should support anyone who has headed an organization that Pat Robertson founded. So, come on Republicans! Get rid of this guy!

By Debbie

April 23, 2006 08:44 AM | Link to this

I disagree with you very strongly but at least you are honest and had the guts to say what most Democrats feel. Not the bs being spread by the Cagle camp that the Dems want to face Ralph.

Cagle just wants to get along and will cave in to pressure. This was evident by the fact he donated $ 1,000 to Mark Taylor after the heated 1998 Lt. Governor’s campaign. He did not want to face the wrath of Taylor and it was a peace offering. You should out how many “peace offering votes” Cagle gave to Gov. Roy Barnes while Barnes was in office.

Cagle’s Campaign slogan should be, “Can’t we all just get along?”

The Cagle Camp doesn’t let the truth stop them about spreading lies and rumors about the Abramoff scandal and they don’t let the truth get in the way with outright lies aobut Reed’s involvement in the 1998 ad the featured Mark Taylor in a drug rehab clinic. Four years ago the media consultant that produced the ad clearly stated in an interview with the AJC that Reed had no prior knowledge of the ad. Cagle still keeps spreading lies about Reed’s involvement.

Reed is out campaigining I would imagine. In case you have not figured it out that is something candidates running for office do.

You know nothing about the religious right, because the values you espoused are those of the Democratic party and the special interest groups that are the base of the party. IE: Gay rights groups, Labor Unions, Feminazis, etc.
