Woody’s Online Town Hall

It’s time for yet another edition of “Woody’s Online Town Hall Meeting”.

This time, the objective is for the leaders of both major political parties of Gwinnett County to make their case as to why their presidential candidate is better for Gwinnett County.

Just like in the last debate, three questions on three very hot topics on the minds of Gwinnettians were submitted. Unfortunately, the Gwinnett Republicans were unable to respond in time for the blog to be published, however, both parties have an open invitation to be active participants in the ongoing discussion.

Since Gwinnett is predominantly Republican anyway.. I’m more than sure many of my readers can step up and supply their version of what the response should be.

And now on to the questions with the Democrats’ responses.

Obviously neither candidate can control the weather, but what can your candidate do to solve Georgia’s water woes and end the aquatic battle between the states?

Mike Berlon/Democrats: The allocation of water is critical to Georgia and the southern economy. This is not a new problem. The Bush administration has done nothing to solve it. Barack Obama brings a fresh approach that will evaluate all relevant factors in this dispute and actively encourage a resolution.

Republicans: n/a

Gwinnett County appears to be more welcoming to the idea of mass transit, considering Gwinnett Transit’s increased ridership, the recent results of the ballot questions in July and traffic, which has always been a headache. Is mass transit on your candidate’s radar as a part of their solution to energy or environmental concerns?

Mike Berlon/Democrats: Generally, people opposed to mass transit don’t use it or don’t need it. Conserving energy and protecting the environment are two key issues for Barack Obama. Increasing mass transit will be of the major keys to cutting energy consumption, increasing fuel efficiency and reducing dependency on foreign oil. Republicans: n/a

Residents of Gwinnett County have spoken pretty loud and clear on the issue of illegal immigration. How does your candidate’s position and policies best fit what the majority of Gwinnettians seem to expect?

Mike Berlon/Democrats: Barack Obama recognizes the significant problems that exist with illegal immigration. The highlights of his immigration policy are to crack down on employers that hire illegal workers, fix the bureaucracy and streamline the citizenship process. Obama’s plan would greatly benefit Gwinnett County and law enforcement by helping with federal resources.

Republicans: n/a

Who would you like to see in future editions of “Woody’s Online Town Hall”? What would you ask them?

Why did the stadium’s cost increase by 50% when we are just a few months into it?

The GOP lemmings will be out enmasse.

Gee, Woody, after reading Mr. Berlon’s responses it seems to me that you could have saved space and just listed “n/a” for both the Democratic and Republican response!

Kinda like Obama’s candidacy….

“Gee, Woody, after reading Mr. Berlon’s responses it seems to me that you could have saved space and just listed “n/a” for both the Democratic and Republican response!” Let’s see—If you don’t get an answer you like you just say you didn’t get an answer??

As far as the 1st question above “Why did the stadium’s cost increase by 50% when we are just a few months into it?” Look who runs the Commission and there is your answer.

The Immigration response is a laugh riot.

Maybe Obama’s brother can move his shanty onto Singleton Rd. in Norcross. It will probably increase property values.

He forgot to mention Obama’s response that American kids should learn to speak spanish.

I have to agree, partially, with Brucie. The Stadium blows, lets cut our losses and not build the eyesore.

Think anyone should point out to Obama/Democrats that they are not running against “the Bush adminstration”?

Nah…they’ll figure it out after November.

Good post LT. Props to ya

Had to add this. BO Says that he has more exec experience than Gov Palin due to his running his campaign.

“Barack Obama contends that he is more experienced in executive matters than Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin because he has managed his presidential campaign for the past 18 months.

Speaking on a cable news channel Monday night, the Democratic presidential nominee said he is better prepared to handle a disaster like Hurricane Gustav because of his pursuit of the White House.

“Well, my understanding is that Governor Palin’s town of Wasilla has, I think, 50 employees. We’ve got 2,500 in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe $12 million a year. You know, we have a budget of about three times that just for the month. So I think that our ability to manage large systems and to execute I think has been made clear over the last couple of years,” Obama said.”

Classic stuff right there

Read Obama’s book. Carefully note his Islamic upbringing, his youthful affinity for Communism, and his lifelong association with known radicals. This is what we want to run our country? This man and his agenda MUST BE STOPPED ! He is a Muslim Trojan horse, waiting to be unleashed on the ignorant American masses.

…yet another waste of the time it took me to open this blog. Mike Berlon makes it actually sound like Barack Obama really cares about the specific issues of Gwinnet County. Give me a break. What a bunch of mindless drivel. I’d be more willing to bet that neither candidate has ever heard of Gwinnet County, let alone has formulated a response on any of those questions or issues as they pertain to our region.

Thanks for the Dunkey Dung, Woodrow. But really you shouldn’t have. After Comrades Pelosi and Reid’s refusal to do anything on increasing domestic energy and offering nothing but amnesty for illegal aliens I’ve had about all the braying crap I can stand.

Barack Obama recognizes the significant problems that exist with [insert subject here]. Further, he understands that this issue is important to the quality of life for all citizens living in [insert county name here] county.

When elected president, Barack Obama will make [insert topic here] a top priority, thereby improving the future outlook for all people in [county name] county. And as everyone would agree, that is change we can believe in.

In case the dolts haven’t noticed, GA is no longer in play. Hussein O. pulled his ads after selecting creepy Joe Biden, the smiling liar as his VP. An Irish-papist don’t go in this state. And, for the record, anybody waiting on his wife’s retirement $ to fund his cowboy fantasy is not much of a man.

Obuma ya Mumma is typical Georgia, tells me to take early retirement? I retired a while ago, my wife still has a few years left. I type slower next time.

What is typical is that the goper’s can recite every talk radio line attacking Obama.

Ok… I know plenty of you watched Sarah Palin’s speech last nite… what did you think?

I don’t agree with her politics, but she knocked it out of the park! Strong, fearless in front of a crowd. She’s a freakin’ rock star!!

She shouldn’t have dissed the community organizers…may p-off the PTA moms that she is trying to court.

And it is a damn shame that she is setting her 17 year old daughter up for ridicule. The photo ops of the young lovers was cringe-worthy.

Besides that, she has energized the Republican party in a way that has not happened as long as I can remember.

I think Palin is giving the DemoRATS heartburn. I like what I’ve seen of Palin so far based mostly on things beyond her drop-dead good looks.

She definitely consolidated the fractured factions of the GOP i.e. Pro life - CC, Gun owners - NRA and all of those… well, you know, “antipathetic small town people” the pandering elitists chose to ignore out of a condescending disdain. Which by the way, “The Chosen One” now acquiesces.

Palin has turned the page on RNC monopolistic idioms by returning windfall profit money from oil companies “directly to the people” of Alaska. Something Nancy Pelosi and the DNC is likely very troubled by as well, in that true populism always trumps socialism that takes in the royalty money and keeps it for Big socialists Government to redistribute via squandering social programs. Nothing can beat those dead presidents when they are in your pocket; and that Ms. Cynthia Tucker is what you call taking Adam Smith to the bank.

Nice to see the RNC has remembered me. You did get my reply I hope? Oh that’s right, you got nothing from me, after ignoring people like me for eight years. Selecting Palin at least shows you’ve began to repent. Now if she can only convince John McCain that serving the Free Trade Gods of Globalism in the surrendering and sacrificing of American jobs and money upon the Global Altar is the folly of putting “Country Last”.

By BW

September 5, 2008 1:09 PM | Link to this

New unemployment numbers out today, it now stands at 6.1%. Globalism is going to be a hard sell, McCain is even giving ammo to Obama by pointing out he’s against it, maybe thats what happens when you reach McCains age.

September 5, 2008 1:21 PM | Link to this

Hmm okay so you all sound like you are sold on Palin… did McCain change any minds last nite? I think he handled the anti-war hecklers pretty well once he took a deep breath… but I think in the long run.. it fired him up.

Im not sure anyone has changed my mind to not do a write in vote which is my plan. Id much rather have the McCain of 2000 than this version… but we are starting to see some that ole McCain start to show I think.

By Michael H. Smith

September 5, 2008 3:23 PM | Link to this

They haven’t changed my mind either. Palin is a good first step as far as she goes on her own merits but she will not be the President.

I’ll probably get “writer’s cramp” when casting my votes this election. I hope enough Independents have the gumption to do the same in truly putting “Country First”.

By BW

September 6, 2008 3:58 AM | Link to this

What’s this…” sounds like you are sold on Palin”…..bs? I hate to insult you, but insult I must, I don’t see any major edorsement besides some think she is hot, after one great speech. McCain tried to speak, but more of the same eight years.

If these local bloggers want to state/imply choices for the elected offices, then someone from the opposition has the same right to be able to refute them in a column of their own.

Jim Marshall Plan

In a huge net win for the environment, the federal revenues from future oil and gas production should be placed in a trust fund and used to create a clean, affordable and independent energy future for America.

http://www.ajc.com/opinion/content/printedition/2008/09/07/marshalled.html

So, Woodrow, what do you think of this Marshall plan? It holds true to Comrade Pelosi’s grand desires to feed the Big Federal Monster, hereafter to be known as Fedzilla, the royalty money from future leases on Federal land owned by Fedzilla. Personally I favor not feeding Fedzilla one penny of these royalties. Instead of the OBiden regimes’ a.k.a. Democrats approach to abusing royalty money from these drilling leases I think the McPalin plan as executed in Alaska is the best of all possible means by which U.S. Citizens (and only U.S. Citizens) would actually be assured of receiving the most benefit from these royalties. Return half of all royalty monies collected by Fedzilla from these lease to every U.S. Citizen in a check. Use the other half of the royalty monies collected by Fedzilla to build the needed energy infrastructure i.e. electric gird and pipelines that shall be owned and controlled by Fedzilla to be leased to energy producers so they can deliver their energy products to we consumers thereby insuring private sector investments will be made in producing clean renewable energy. I would say give “We the U.S. Citizens” all of that money but as you know Woodrow the first commandment of government says: Thou shalt not kill Fedzilla!

By the way Woodrow do you know why the McPalin energy policy actually offers an answer to the water issue where the OBiden policy does nothing? More on that later… in case you don’t know where this is going, research Tampa Bay desalinization.
