And the ‘Woody Award’ goes to…

“Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best.“_Tim Duncan

We all want the best, and (I hope) we all strive to be the best.

However, being nominated or selected for certain Woody Awards may or may not be what some might aspire to be best at but like it or not have earned the nomination or designation. Some of the awards were more difficult decisions than others.

The most difficult choice was with the first Woody Award which goes to the person who I believe best exemplifies the qualities every Gwinnett citizen should aspire to.

All the nominees for this award are all worthy individuals with valid arguments to back up their nomination, therefore making my decision that more challenging.

How do I choose one individual when all have incredible individual accomplishments and all represent someone as personal to me as my mother, a cancer survivor. Some very very close friends are also officers of the law and not I have respect for the entire police force. Another is a man whose writing I admire for its honesty and impact, and another is a visionary who, from about everything I can read, seems to share my dream for a better Gwinnett.

All honorable. All deserving. All making an impact on our lives and shining a bright light on our little corner of the world.

Unfortunately, only one can be awarded the 2007 Woody Award:

Gwinnettian of the Year

This year… the award goes to…

Officer Craig Lake of the Gwinnett County Police Department

Officer Lake took a bullet to the chest (thankfully interrupted by a bulletproof vest) early this year while in the line of duty trying to intercept a suspected burglar.
