The Aurora Theatre opens May 31. Will it help Lawrenceville’s economy?

The Aurora Theatre is just days away from opening its elegant new home off the downtown Lawrenceville square. On May 31 it will open the first show in the new space: “Camelot”.

Do you think the 250-seat theater that cost more than $3 million will help business in the square and encourage nightlife there? Will you attend the show?

I’m planning to attend the show and I hope they will have afternoon family shows so I can take my young kids there regularly too.

With great marketing, this theater can soar and definitely boost Lawrenceville’s economy. However, the mayor definitely needs to work on improving the entrances into the city. In particular, all the clutter and eyesoars on 120, 20 and Winder Highway. All of the unkept business signs and businesses that cater to illegals are a total turnoff for the area.

I agree with Pam. I’m planning to support the theater and I think it will be great for Lawrenceville, but a lot of work needs to be done to make Lawrenceville a destination for those that don’t live here.

“not blonde” My guess is you are part of the problem.

In my mind there is no doubt that it will help the city’s downtown area. 5 years ago, the downtown area wasn’t all that attractive either. Now there seems to be construction and reconstruction in almost every corner. I would assume that the major arteries into the area will follow suit in time.

Back to the theatre…There will be a lot of people with $$$ in their pockets that come into our town, that wouldn’t be here without the theatre’s presence. Definitely will be a boost.

I must agree with PAM, Lawrenceville definately needs a little fixing up, but please where does the illigal issue come into play. My daughter forms part of a very good ballet school, we have our yearly recital in the downtown Duluth theater, and for a fact I know we will consider the Aurora Theater in Lawrenceville. So to you PAM, in case you didn’t know or bother to check, all these businness you claim cater to illegals also help the city prosper by paying taxes. Parking, by far is a big issue as well.

No doubt the Aurora Theatre can boost Lawrenceville’s social life and attract many other positive new influences to the City. Along with supporting the Theatre in attracting new faces to the downtown Historic Square, which will offer viable financial support to the many area restaurants located nearby, it is necessary to open up what is a closed area to the public at large without further adding to the present encumbrances of existing traffic congestion. For better or worse, call it evil as some may, the so-called Brain Train is probably the best solution, if not the only one that can offer within walking distance, accessibility to the Theatre and Historic Square without having to accommodate a single car or bus.

Of course expressed concerns are noteworthy. As the adage goes: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Then so it would be obtuse to ignore the bad undesirable elements that will emerge, if not already presented in crime, shoddy buildings and businesses that just don’t fit respectfully in the area. The City has made efforts to eliminate such undesirable distractions and eyesores from this area within the confines of the law while attempting to observe the rights of all parties. However, should a ballot initiative be presented to the citizenry of Lawrenceville, if only as a non-binding resolution, dealing directly with businesses that depend on financial support from illegal aliens to operate, then doubtlessly I feel confident that my friends, neighbors and fellow Lawrenceville citizen voters would answer resoundingly to reflect this sentiment in statement: If a business must depend upon anything illegal in order to remain in business, then this is a business that should never have been allowed to open its’ doors in our City.

I seriously doubt the majority of Lawrenceville’s citizens want any crime period, and certainly they do not want the infamous title of Sanctuary City applied to their good name in promoting illegal, as such is the case in Duluth by offering an illegal alien day labor center. Furthermore, Lawrenceville is an American City, we speak English here commonly, and our flag displays the colors of Red, White and Blue. For those who respect this itinerary, a warm welcome and embrace stands forevermore extended. For any who would eschew these virtues by signs clearly designed to proclaim the sovereignty of another nation upon our sovereign soil all that will be earned, all that will be due, is a disparaging eye.
