Law enforcement or speed trap?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Some claim Lawrenceville runs speed traps, but the city’s police chief doesn’t apologize for enforcing the law.
A recent AJC Gwinnett News analysis found that the city has consistently raised more money through court fines than property taxes. And some drivers say Lawrenceville police could be doing something more productive with their time than running radar on cars.
Lawrenceville police Chief Randy Johnson said the numbers show police are doing their jobs. “It is what it is,” said Johnson, who says his officers are trying to stop reckless speeders, get drunks off the road and keep people from getting killed.
