Having the team there would be a plus, but I think it is crazy to expect “team” effort from only the taxpayers. In a courtship, BOTH sides need to show their interest and willingness to compromise. It cannot be a one-sided attraction. Let the county commissioners be PERSONALLY liable, intead of the taxpayers. THEN evaluate whether it is “worth” it.

This is the best thing that happened to Gwinnett since Mall of Georgia! To see this go to any other county would have been, not just a disappointment, but a disaster. Kudos go to our elected officals who acted decisively and swiftly to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity. GO BRAVES!

I wouldn’t mind my tax dollars go to this new stadium, if I were to benefit from it.

Like once the bills are all paid and the stadium is making money, let me get in for free to some of the games. I mean I helped build the stadium, I should get some perks, right? Or name the field after me. or the locker room, or a door, or just a seat!!!! I like the seat idea.

You people crack me up. Its a 30 year bond. Neither brave team is likely to be here in 30 years, and if they AR….they will want a new stadium. Its da Amerikan way!!

It was worth whatever it took to get a minor league team in Gwinnett. I cannot tell you how excited Gwinnettians are about Opening Day 2009!

What about the Water? I know they will use port-a-potties and drain them for drinking water and water the outfield grass. What about schools? Who needs schools, trailers are good for business. What about the roads? Have you been down 20 in recent days, it’s a parking lot, and when this new Stadium is built, you won’t be able to move around anywhere near there. What about taxes? Yep, they’re going up.

What about Sunday liquor sales? I was all for it till it was tied to the new Stadium. The Braves have given an ultimatum to Gwinnett, that if this doesn’t go thru, their going to back out of the deal ( we now own the property and have committed to a 30 year bond), I will now make it my duty to see that the vote in November is NO for Sunday Liquor sales and if it passes, I’ll cheer Sonny if he veto’s it.

Time to check the pockets of our local officials that have struggled to shove this down our throats. Oh Yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRAVES

Question? Can we still stop this?

the MLB Braves will be wondering where all their fans have gone, since the GWII-netters won’t go downtown when they have a better choice in their own back yard.

the taxpayer dollars in this just doesn’t make sense to me either.

Being from Rome, I can assure you that having a minor league team is great for your community! However, I think the elected officials should NEVER have acted in secret. The taxpayers should have been a partner in this deal, not just the ones who are being asked to sign on the dotted line.

Mark This Gwinnettian is extremely happy to have this minor league team right down the road from where I live. Nothing like a ballgame on a hot summer afternoon!! I have arena football, arena hockey and now a minor league baseball team all in Gwinnett!!! WOO HOO Gwinnett is Great!!!!! I love it here.

James A little angry? Maybe you should vote YES to Sunday Sales, I think you need a drink!!!!

By James

Yes JJ, I’m a little angry, but what the heck, our under educated children can walk to their great jobs at the Stadium, paying $6/hour with no benefits (yes, they get to watch the game) and sell the bottled water at $10.99/bottle, $10.00 for the water and $0.99 Gwinnett county sales tax to pay for the Stadium. Heck maybe Buford will annex the Stadium and then we’ve got it made, they have lots of money. (I shouldn’t have posted that idea, because Buford will do it)

But you’re correct, I need a drink! Have a great day!

I wonder if this stadium is mostly funded by taxpayers. I do not think Gwinnett county needs a minor league stadium. I think the money should have been spent on education. Minor league teams have only been successful in areas where professional teams don’t exist. Atlanta and it’s metro areas are not as big as Houston and other large cities that can afford a major and minor league team.

Your correct Bill, Education, Transportation, Water, Police, anything but a frivolous venture with a non value adding, blood sucking professional baseball company at the cost of the tax payers.

Well, the Gwinnett Braves should be able to recruit plenty of Dominicans, Mexicans and Cubans from the local Barrio population. They could probably even field an all-Gwinnett team…

I think this is a great deal for the county, even if it does end up costing me a few tax dollars. It will be mostly self funding, and even if taxes need to be raised, it will be minimal.

To those that say the money should go to education: Hello, the Board of Commissioners and the School Board are two separate things. It would be like the school board building a school and you saying the money should go to roads.

After all the school taxes I have paid, and recreation taxes for kids’ ballfields, finally a little payback for people without kids!

The losers are those who try to drive anywhere near the MOG area, especially with weekend games. The traffic is bad enough alreay. There are not enough alternate routes.

Oh well, better than driving to the ghetto for a game.

take it from the people from macon. don’t count on the braves being there for 30 years. … or the reds … or the pirates … and the list goes on for us. when your new stadium starts to age other communities will try to get them to move to their city. da*n rome.

Well, I doubt I’ll be here in 30 years either, but I plan on being at the new stadium on opening day, and numerous days after that.

I’m looking forward to this. As for traffic - well, you can’t go anywhere in this town without hitting traffic, no matter what time of day. Just last weekend I was at the Fox Theater for a 4:00 show. At 6:15 we left, and it took us 45 minutes just to get to Lenox Square. So traffic is everywhere.

The people of Gwinnett crack me up. Taxes for a new stadium, which they can benefit from only during Spring and Summer, Yes! Taxes for public transit or to extend MARTA’s northeast line into Gwinnett, which they can benefit from year round, Heck NO!

Hey reality. Why would we want to spend tax money on transporting homeless people and criminals. At least we get some relief from having to go to the slums to watch a sporting venue. Hooray no more gypsy parking or having to walk through crack town with your kids to watch a game. Thats worth every penny.

You can bet your bottom dollar all these “great” tohave a Brave’s team in Gwinnett!”, ” can’t wait to have them play in by back yard,”yada, yada, yada, types are the 3 to 5 residents: they’re here on a transfer with a company for a three-to-five year stint and just like a breeze, they’re on their way out. Guess among the “old timers” (45+ and permanent residents) will be stuck with the bill they won’t have to pay, and rest assured, we WILL have to pay! JCinDuluth

Support Your Gwinnett Public School Your Gwinnett Public School Supports You NOT

My Daughter is in the Gwinnett Public School system - sorry, I do know this is my main problem.

Amanda is a graduating high school senior this spring and has been accepted into a University to pursue a BNA in Nursing. She recognized early that nursing was the professional field she wanted and her Gwinnett high school recommended that she enter into the high school nursing program her senior year. This required her to attend Maxwell Technical School in the AM for the nursing curriculum. She has done well, making the only “A” in her nursing class last semester and is enjoying training at the hospital three mornings a week.

Enough back ground. Good grades and enjoying your classes brings the normal peer responses of teachers pet, etc. My daughter ignored these. Then racial slurs started from other students and actual physical threats. We reported the threats and do have a documented history of these threats with Maxwell. There is even a police report of an incidence. The “administrators” were always assuring us that “they have everything under control”.

On morning of 3/19/08 my daughter entered her class room and walked toward her desk. Several students got between her and her desk and began yelling vulgar racial slurs to her, and then one female student got within one inch of her face and yelled “I want to slap you, B*** – I am going to slap you, B***” and then started slapping her hands together in front of my daughters face. My daughter then did make a mistake and said “ok, if you’re going to slap me, go ahead and do it”. The aggressor then did strike my daughter in the throat and punched her in the chest. My daughter did not retaliate, did not touch the aggressor.

The “teacher” then sent them both to the office. After weeks documentation of threats and harassment, and finally a physical attack on my daughter the school settled this by suspending my daughter for one day. Reason given to me was that because my daughter said “go ahead and hit me” she was considered to be involved in the fight. I had taught my daughter to never use violence, but let the law take its course. My daughter has endured racial slurs, harassment, and physical attack and now she gets suspended.

The racial slurs and harassment continue. My daughter was suspended for being attacked. Gwinnett School system is satisfied.

By the way, did I mention that my daughter is Caucasian. Sincerely, John P. Bryant 630 Warm Springs Court, Loganville, Ga. 30052 770-554-3616

What a shame she was not a football player. At Brookwood high my son faced a similar situation but the football players who did the same thing were released and mine was suspended. This was a common occurance I was told when my kids went there. They are out of college now, no thanks to Brookwood High.

It never fails. There’s white folks’ justice/prison time; and, there’s black folks’ justice/prison time. Guess which is worst and longest. Just look at the so called “Barbie Bandits.” Barbie bandits my a—! These are cold, calculating bank robbers who, had they been Black, would have drawn sentences of 10-15+. What a shame, Gwinnett. Shame, shame, shame. And they say it’s not about race. The young white girl with the Black boyfriend got more time because she would not tell on her Black boyfriend! Oh what a world of prejudice and bigotry. But you know what, the chickens still come home to roost. Don’t know what I’m speaking of…Wait…Watch,,,and you’ll see. What goes around, Gwinnett, comes around…Always has been,…Always will be. Now that you can take to the bank!!!!!!!!!!!!!
