Snellville peaceniks to Insider: Thanks for making fun of us.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A few days ago, Dorothy Shaw sent us a thank-you note for our little story about her peace rally in Snellville last month.
“Your article about the probability of failure for our last peace rally in Snellville proved to be a real impetus to get people to our rally,” Shaw wrote. “We had 35 people and overwhelming support from the passers-by. The best rally ever outside of Atlanta proper.”
Shaw is a local activist with MoveOn.org and one of the organizers of the “Iraq moratorium” rally held in Snellville on Sept. 21.
In our column, published the previous Sunday (“Peace rally in Snellville? Huh?”), we questioned just how successful a peace rally would be in a staunchly conservative town run by an argumentative bunch of politicians who are more likely to fight over whose statue to build or which name gets stamped on a building.
Shaw’s group was out in force last Thursday night in protest of President Bush’s veto of the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act.
The group plans to return to Snellville for a second peace rally on Friday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.

35 protesters for a city with 15,000 constituents. Very successful.

John, when you count “overwhelming support from the passers-by” they’re support was probably in the millions. ;-)

If they still had the draft you would see massive peace rallys right here in the very red Gwinnett. If there was even a remote chance that Dear Lil Johnny may actually be forced to serve his country they would be marching every weekend. But as long a someone else fights the fight why should anyone else be bothered.
Health care for children, bush is worried about protecting private insurance companies, not children. He will need healthy children to send off to die in his war. It is just common sense that a healthy child costs less in the long one, than the one that ends up in an emergency room because of lack of health care.
Dorothy Shaw has more backbone thn most of th AJC’s writers and our own United States Senators. Go Dorothy!

Bruce, we don’t have a draft. “Ifs” are for children. What we do have is an extremely small percentage of Americans fighting and dying for our freedom to argue on this website. Supporting the troops means you support the mission.

Move On is akin to socialism and fanaticism. I say keep them off the streets and in the Gulag where they belong! John Kerry is part of that right?

John Kerry fought in Nam, Saxby had a bad knee, Max lost both legs and an arm in Nam, Sax still had a bad knee.
John Dunn, ““Ifs” are for children” so when bush says “If” the surge works, finally we have a plan that works he is being childish?
Any of you winners would like to explain to me how invading Iraq under false pretenses and creating more terrorism is fighting for our freedom?
Anyone remember bin Laden, the one who actually attacked us, the one bush was going to get dead or alive, has he been caught yet?
If any of you could discuss the issue intelligently I would be more than happy to oblige. Otherwise I’ll just sit back and enjoy the insults from the lemmings, knowing why Georgia is on the bottom of the educational ladder.

Bruce,
A political lemming is one who cannot deviate from his party’s talking points. You apparently are just another moveon.org radical who believes this war was about WMD and WMD alone. Saddam had WMD and had used them on his own people. Yes, WMD had something to do with it, and we found alot of it. Check out the Duelfer Report: http://www.lib.umich.edu/govdocs/duelfer.html
Facts are stubborn things, Bruce.
We also invaded because Saddam Hussein was a gathering threat to his neighbors. He proved his willingness to do so with Iran and Kuwait.
We invaded because he was in violation of a series of UN resolutions ( http://www.casi.org.uk/info/scriraq.html ), which he was certain people like you would prevent us from enforcing.
Where is bin Laden? Do you for one minute believe that killing him will make the bad men stop?
The surge is working, Bruce. We are winning, hence your cause is lost. Even your presidential candidates will not commit to troop withdrawal before the year 2013.

Saddam was a strong ally of the United States when he used chemical weapons against his own people, we knew, yet we did nothing.
A gathering threat to his neighbors, you’re just joking here right? Saddam did not have a functional air force, an army with outdated weapons, no navy and the best yet, no wmd’s as proven by his own hand-picked inspector.
United Nations, now is this the same United Nations that refused to give bush and blair their blessing in invading Iraq? If so, they must have not felt it was that important to kill thousands for violating economic scantions.
Isn’t also true when speaking of the Uniited Nations that Saddam allowed the inspectors back in the fall before the invasion? Is it not also true that they, even with charts, photos and maps provided by the United States, could not find any wmd’s?
“Where is bin Laden? Do you for one minute believe that killing him will make the bad men stop?” So does this mean you have surrended, the bin Laden who created 9/11 is not important anymore, that bin Laden has won, how sad. To protect incompetence, the boogyman became Saddam, he’s dead, tell me, who is the boogyman now?
The surge is working, for how long? Is it another “Mission Accomplished” time? After four years this great country of ours has finally found a general that can win? What about the Iraqi government? If they do not fight for their own democracy, why do our soldiers die for it?
Why should we be paying top dollar to private companies to provide over 70,000 security agents to support our troops in Iraq? Tell me how this war is run when we pay private firm employees more in one month than our soldiers make in a year? Why is our military so drained that we have to have hired guns do the work we should be doing?
You want to really support our troops, pay them what we pay the hired guns. Rotate them home the same way the hire guns are rotated. Give them the same benefits, that is supporting our troops, anything less is criminal.
I am a Liberal, that is my only label, the Democrats can not match it and the GOP certainly can not. Moveon has the same rights as the Swift Boaters or does Free Speech only go one way in the South?

Queen Hillary promises to have all the troops out by the end of her second term in office. So why do all her loyal subjects rant and rave, march and moveon.org , have they no faith in her highness, their Queen?

Last tine I checked we did invade Iraq for WMD’s (graciously supplied by Reagan, Bush Sr, and Co. to be used against Iran).
Besides, how can anyone who puts down the UN then use the UN as justification for war?
Israel right now is violating UN resolutions, but we arn’t bombing the crap out of them.
North Korea has nukes, and threatens to use them (hell they export them) and Bush does nothing, while hundreds of thousands of NK people are in concentration camps.
