Ron, Hermione, Gwinnett loves us!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The county made famous by a mother’s crusade to rid public schools of Harry Potter books was recently honored by the folks who publish them.
Random House Books on Tape named the Gwinnett County Public Library system as a finalist in its “Jim Dale at Your Library” contest.
Dale — for those who don’t know the difference between a bludger and a boggart — narrates the Potter books on tape.
Alas, Gwinnett County didn’t win the grand prize, which was an appearance and reading of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” by Dale himself.
But according to a news release, the library system “was chosen as one of only 45 semifinalists from the more than 1,000 entries submitted by libraries from across the country.”
(Hmm, 45 semifinalists. Did they all transfigure themselves to reach that level?).
The contest was to create the best series of library-sponsored events for the release of the latest Harry Potter tome.

Gwinnett should ban that mother’s kids from the school system. She is an EVIL “christian” who, like her church probably, wants to take over teh school system and only preach HER values and not let anyone else think for themselves-sounds a bit like MUSLIMISM and Clintonism-Gov’t tells you what to do, what to read, think and say. In return for giving up your brain, you get security, handouts, entitlements and healthcare below what you are used to now. Welcome to Socialism! Harry Potter Rules-I love the one with the House Elf-movie #2. the Trio work well together, but, alas, no one comes close to Professor.SNAPE!! Alan Rickman is fantastic as this character. Wish they would have an 8th Book-Harry Potter and the Gwinnett “Christian” Mother. Heck, I’d root for Valdemort if he were to get rid of that moronic woman. Go crawl back under the church you came from and take your brainwashed kids with you! Remember…if money is the root of all evil, why do churches beg for it? Think about it.

Well I think Jim Dale should go to Gwinnett anyway. The publicity it would stir!
However, I am just glad there are people reading and thinking! If nothing else that misinformed woman got the nation discussing books, book banning, censorship, free speech, free press, theology and a host of other things!

These books are crap. Why don’t you people try reading some literature or non-fiction? Gwinnett seems to be a haven for book-banners, nazis and dweebs.

Don’t let the actions of one Christian woman cloud your judgement of all Christians. We aren’t all like that. I’m a church-going, Bible-reading Christian who loves the Harry Potter books AND movies. I, as well as my children, understand that it’s not real. That’s what makes the difference, teach your children what’s real and what’s make believe or you’ll be trying to ban about 70% of children’s books out there. Don’t get me started on all the movies she wouldn’t like…

Don’t confuse Christianity with Moronic parents that have nothing better to do with their time than create something out of nothing. The Gwinnett Mother had no credibility as per her own words “She had never read any of the Harry Potter books.”
No, I do not agree with her and have found each and every Harry Potter book more entertaining than the last. What is more I have seen for myself the love of reading this set of books has given to a new group of kids learning how to read. I know the Gwinnett Mom was trying to be proactive—but by not getting the proper information and not having her facts in order (reading the book—even one of them) she succeeded in making a mockery of the process she was trying to protect and of herself.

I am the proud mother of two boys, a proud and devote Christian, and I am one of the biggest fans where I live of Harry Potter! It teaches the children the difference between good and evil, in a fantasy kind of way. It uses magic to relate to the children and it uses very real values that they will find today to teach them how to cope and deal with. It teaches them to dream big and try their hardest. My kids know the difference between real and make believe. My oldest knows how to pick out the moral of the story too. When he has a new challenge in life he won’t give up because he says to me, “Harry wouldn’t give up, and look what happened to him, he won.” He knows that if you stick with it you will eventually accomplish it.

Relax war eagle. Every single religion and community in the world has their fanatics, and there’s not much we can do about it except point and laugh at the idiots.

Why shouldn’t Gwinnett be one of the semifinalists? That woman’s idiotic crusade did a lot to boost the books’ popularity and media coverage.
