Green: District courtesy? What district courtesy?

Gwinnett commissioners Lorraine Green and Charles Bannister formed an unlikely alliance Tuesday when the pair voted against an apartment rezoning in Kevin Kenerly’s north Gwinnett commission district.

Bannister’s opposition wasn’t all that surprising. Bannister and Kenerly don’t much get along.

But Green’s vote was notable because she transgressed the unwritten code of “district courtesy.” In rezoning matters, Gwinnett’s four district commissioners typically don’t vote against a rezoning in a another board member’s district, especially if the proposed development is not controversial.

In this case, the proposed apartment complex at Old Peachtree Road and Tech Center Parkway had been rejected by county planning staff and the Gwinnett Planning Commission.

But Green said that’s not the principal reason why she voted against the rezoning. “I have consistently voted against apartments — 100 percent [since] I’ve been in office,” Green said.

As for Kenerly, he says he doesn’t have any hard feelings.

IMHO, the well connected get rezoning, the average guy does not.

Rough break that old Kev has turned on his “own kind” - before y’all know it the high dollar hoods won’t be quite so attractive. Glad that we have Lorraine looking out for us!

You are completely fooled. Lorraine isn’t looking out for you..Lorraine is looking out for Lorraine. Check what’s in the kool-aid before you gulp down some more!

The district courtesy vote is a joke. Time to rethink the who BOC process.

Nice try, not-so truthful teller. I’ve worked with Lorraine since long before she was elected. I’ve been personally involved with dozens of projects on which she spent massive amounts of unrewarded time, and the results have been a godsend for our neighborhood and our community. If she were really so self-interested, she’d never have voted against the political tide as noted herein, DUH? Sounds like you’re with the Kenerly Kroud / Poss Pushing / Bannister Bashers to me. The BOC process is in fact working wonderfully for us - sounds like some commissioner envy to me.

Amen, Chuck! It’s easy to be a lazy anonymous useless griper, but those of us who are DOING something about it (Lorraine included) are the only among us with the first clue. Guess that’s why graffiti, trash, etc. is DOWN 20% in our District, but UP 25% in the others.

Lorraine, keep up the aggressive leadership. The county needs it.
