I will miss Chris Benoit
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I have been a professional wrestling fan since I was six years old and it drives some people nuts.
“How can an educated man enjoy watching that stuff?” Say what you want about wrestling being scripted. For me, it is amazing to watch these athletes work every day as hard as they do. Most of us could never have the strength or agility to do what they do.
If you’ve been following the news, you heard about the recent Chris Benoit tragedy. I used to tell people that if I was ever cornered in a dark alley by a group of thugs, I would want Jet Li and Chris Benoit guarding my back.
Chris, like Jet Li, was not the biggest, nor the strongest. He was 5 foot 10 inches, weighed 220 pounds but in my opinion he was the best at what he did. He didn’t quit and he didn’t lose. And like Jet Li, you knew that when you watched him fight he’d do things that seemed impossible for the human body to do.
Chris was tough as nails. He was often injured — broken ribs, torn knee ligaments, elbows, arms, head — but he entertained his audience and gave a maximum effort every night.
Friends and neighbors, I can certainly understand if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I hope you’ll forgive me if you feel like I have wasted your time this week with my remembrances of this great athlete.
Next week I’ll get back to writing about all things Duluth, but today I had to express what I’m feeling. Maybe some of you out there will want to share your feelings in this blog too.
I hope you’ll forgive me, but I think we should reserve judgment until we know what may have been going on in his head. He was obviously troubled and sick but we don’t know why.
What happened to Chris Benoit and his family was tragic. But I hope he will be also remembered for the dedication to his profession and that he was just tough as nails. I, for one, will miss him.
And I still would want him watching my back in a dark alley.

I have no desire to know what was going on inside the head of a man that could smother a seven year old boy in his sleep. The only good thing he did was save us the trouble of executing him for his heinous crimes.
Burn in Hell, Chris Benoit. You’ve definitely earned it.

Oh please, the guy was a doped up a* who killed his wife and son, no amount of “he had problems” excuses that, no amount of “lets blame the steroids” brings back his child or wife. Was he a good wrestler? Yes, but he was also (and more importantly) a wife abuser (as noted by her restraining order against him 4 years ago) and a child killer. Shame on you for writing this, he doesn’t deserve anything nice to be said about him.

You should be fired for writing this grade school crap. The guy murdered his wife, then kills his son, for crying out loud, and you will miss him because he won’t have your back in some dark alley? Grow up.

He was weak. If he was so tough, he would have faced the consequences of his actions. Instead, he was too much of a coward and chickened out. What a weak pathetic wussy. Happy trails little man.

I feel very much like the writer. I used to be a wresting fanatic but since the demise of WCW, I no longer am. Benoit was one of the only true remenant of my childhood innocence and now I am finding it hard to not hate him for doing such a horrible thing to his own child. It’s so hard to fathom why anyone would want to hurt a child. Looking the footages of him and his son, I see such love and just a precious precious child. No matter what anyone writes it just does not truly express what happened and what people are feeling. In my heart I want to pray for his forgiveness because I find it comforting to think his child and his wife is with God. Yet again he played God with their lives and today everyone will only remember the monster he was or became at the end of his life.

Thank you for writing this. I am sorry that others do not seem to understand. My husband and I just found out and just wow. I know what it is like to be depressed and abused. I know the thoughts going through the head of someone like that. I understand but I am sad that he, like many others, decided to act on those thoughts. My heart goes out to his WWE family for all that they are having to deal with. I hope that the Sun and other mags are happy with their psycho “roid rage” stories. You don’t have to be doing roids to be good at what you do and you definitely don’t have to have drugs to have the problems that his family were having. I still stand by his accomplishments and I will still stand by as a WWE fan. May they heal from this and become even stronger. Thank you again for having the courage to write this. You are a hero in my eyes, Screw what everyone else says!

to the negative comments - it shocks me that you can speak so definitely, and like such an expert, about something that you really have no clue about. The whole story is still not known or understand. The situation, the motives, even what exactly happened, it isn’t know for sure. So don’t judge the author for his opinions when you want to try and force your own opinions on everyone through your comments.
The whole thing just doesn’t make any sense and I just can’t understand how this could happen.

I know it is very easy to judge someone based on their last actions specially when some one is hurt or killed. It is very dissappointing to see someone that entertains people all over the world do something so stupid as killing their family. He was one of the better entertainers in the WWE and he as the entertainer will be missed. The man that killed his family will not. I feel terrible for the child that died. My condolences to the Benoit family and friends. R.I.P. Daniel & Nancy….

Wake up people!!! we live in a very uncertain and evil world i dont believe for 1 minute that chris benoit did this to himself or his family i think that he was set up i think someone came in there that was a psycho stalker and came up with a master plan to kill all of them and to make it look like chris did it who knows in this sick world we live in?

Thank you. I have been reading a lot of the reports and personally I smell set-up. Chris is one of my favorites and from watching him in the ring to interviews and behind the scenes, I just don’t think he would ever have it in him. There are just to many variables left open to call it a murder-suicide if you ask me.

It’s sad that most of you losers leaving comments can’t see past the act and look at the man who was so obviously emotionally wracked that he took the lives of his entire family before taking his own. You may not agree with the feelings of the writer but the Nazi-esque responses you attack him with are not only laughable, but a symptom of the sickness that infests our country. Calling the writer an idiot and freedom of speech questionable? For an uneducated statement like that, you ought to incur a fine or a prison sentence every time one of your moronic opinions pollutes the aether. Chris Benoit a coward? What would YOU know about courage? What have YOU done to set yourself apart from we of the unwashed masses? Weak? I bet you’re the same a-hole who would throw a beer at an athlete then sue him when he lays a righteous beating on you. Grow up indeed.
Chris Benoit was a human being, which is more than I can say for you dregs. He deserves to have something nice said about him. His entire existence is not defined by this one moment in time. You people, on the other hand, have clearly defined yourselves with your idiotic vitriol. Chris Benoit obviously came full circle with the realization of what he had done prior to ending his own life, which is more than I would ever expect from any of you.

i liked chris benoit. he was one of my favorite wrestlers. i understand where you guys are coming from. i know you guys keep on hearing the words “roid rage”. but maybe it did happen. you can hear voices and see things that arent there and we wont know till the autopsy is finished. i wish we knew what went through his mind. but then again i dont want to know. but here is something to think about. maybe the day he killed his wife he was on roid rage mixed with alcohol witch doesnt go together real well but then again we wont know till they are done examining the bodies but with roid rage and alcohol your a total different person…….but the night he killed his wife he could of still had the effects the next day when he killed his son. witch is possible. and later the night he killed his son he started to function and realized what he had done and took his own life. R.I.P. Chris Daniel and Nancy.

Dear Spider, His entire existence MOST CERTAINLY IS defined by the fact that he KILLED two innocent people. You can go on and on about how stupid people are, but you are doing the same thing that everyone else is doing, reacting emotionally. The guy was an abusive loser. The end.

You rednecks amaze me. Courage? For what, jumping off a friggin rope onto a mat to be cushioned by an opponent who’s ready to break your fall?
“We love you Chris! You must have been set up! The other shooter on the grassy knoll that dun it.” What do you morons think this is, a lame Vince McMahon soap opera script?
Here’s the bottom line: the kid had Fragile X Syndrome, which means he’s mentally retarded and has physical deformities. Chris Benoit couldn’t handle that, argued with his wife about what to do with the boy (they were giving him HGH, for chrissakes!), murders the wife and then takes out the son he was too ashamed to claim as his own.
end of story.

Dear Franny, your right-wing mindset and narrow minded whinging is shadowed only by your stupidity. Did you SEE Chris Benoit murder anybody? Did you SEE Chris Benoit abuse anybody? I didn’t think so. Suggesting that my reaction is emotional is laughable. At no time do I defend a single thing that Chris Benoit is accused of. Oh waah waah he had a restraining order against him. Dropped. Read much? If I had a dollar for every bulls*it restraining order I’ve seen some vindicative piece of trash file, I’d be alot wealthier than I am. Think before you type, sweetheart. Call him an abusive loser or whatever you’d like. You’re a sheep and I’d rather be a murderer or an abuser or just about anything else in the world than a sheep. Think before you type, sheep, It’ll save you some embarassment in the long run. THE END.

I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinions here. However, the truth will come out. My husband, my son, and myself have been watching wrestling for years. Chris Benoit was one of our favorite entertainers. If any one had ever seen the way he was with his son, then you would question his ability to commit such an act. I am not saying that he didn’t do it…I’m not saying that he did. I to question whether or not he was set up. The contents of the text messages sent to his co-workers are somewhat odd. Two weeks ago, he was drafted to ECW and was well on his way to the championship…someone didn’t like this! It is possible that someone murdered his entire family and made it look like a double-murder/suicide. There has been no evidence of an outsider yet though. I really don’t know what to believe. I am in just as much shock as the next person. No one knows what goes on in other peoples lives or their minds or the troubles that others have. Who are we to pass judgement???

I enjoyed Chris Benoit the entertainer, however as the facts come out it becomes clearer and clearer that this man committed a horrible, horrible deed. Like it or not, our lives are often defined by how they end, and few men have chosen a more cowardly and dishonorable way to exit this world. Despite his in-ring accomplishments, this man deserves no tribute. We have all heard of the police officer in Ohio that murdered his pregnant girlfriend; shall we praise his accomplishments while on the force? This would be a disservice to those who lost their innocent lives.

I knew Christ as a person and a wrestler. Yes, he was two different person but none of you have any idees who he was or what he did exept for being a wrestler…..for all his fans. For your information nothing is clear for now on what really happen in there. You should’nt relie on what you read in the papers or hear on TV. Only the authorities and a few members of our staff have the real details. For now we don’t know much exept the hole direct familly (Chris, Nacy and Daniel) were found dead in there home. Nothing else is clear for the moment. you can blame who ever you want but you are still a hole bunch of no buddies trying to set justice your way. You should let the right people do their job and not interfere. I hope you understand why I don’t state my name since I’m a member of the WWE staff. Just know that Chris was (as a men) a really good guy, who would have done anything for anyone surounding is environment. He was a collegue, a co-worker and a true friend. And in the end I just want to add: we don’t know anything for shure yet exept that Chris Nancy and Daniel were found dead on their home. Don’t be so hard to juge when you don’t even know anything exept what you read in the papers or online. I just hope that rest of the WWE family and the Benoit family have the strenght to go trough this very difficult challenge. May Crhis Nacy and Daniel Benoit REST IN PEACE

Okay, you lunitics with a hate on for both the author and chris benoit need to shut you pie holes and listen up. he was not doped up, he was not under any influnence, and if you know anything at all, the only people that got him through life and his many injuries that he came back from( that i will bet most of you would probably crawl in to the Fedal position after) was his family, more percisely his wife and kid. Benoit would never, and i do mean never to do anything remotely like this. There is something else going on, and i will thank all of you to keep you doubting mouths shut. Until everything is discovered, Nobody has any right to state the guilt of benoit. Innocent until PROVEN guilty remember? and to those who remember the restaining order, WTF? it was resolved, and 4 YEARS AGO. Benoit should never be classed with those like Lex Lugar.

I am not typing an accusation or a defense of the case in point. I am only stating what things are public record. Chris Benoit had no motive to murder his family or commit suicide. He had a scheduled Pay Per View event in which he was going to be crowned a Champion. That just doesn’t scream “Chris Benoit is having so many problems in his life!” He had a great family, a great home and a great job. He had a restraining order put in place against him by his wife 4 years ago but she also had them terminate that order. From all the public appearances involving Chris Benoit and his family there just doesn’t seem to be any problems that would lead to a murder-suicide. I enjoy reading the opinions of others in confusing matters such as this one to try to find something that can help me to understand exactly what happened. Keep your opinions coming. Thank You.

I whole-heartedly agree with Mr. Allen and Dave. Granted, none of us actually knew Chris Benoit, so it would be impossible to speak of his character; but the same is true for those who are writing such nasty things about him. “Johnny” and “Joel S” have their opinions and beliefs and that’s great for them. But how dare anybody judge another without knowing where they are coming from. You understandably chastise Benoit for what you read in the headlines, but to call for Mr. Allen’s firing because he expressed his opinion is completely out of line. I pray for the souls of Daniel, Nancy, and Chris and for closure to their families.

I was and still am a wrestling fan, I think its sad when a grown man esp a man like him reduces himself to death. Yes i agree it was wrong to kill a seven year old child but no one knows what was going on in his head. Honestly i wish his other sons my sympathy and hope that the truth comes out giving everyone a clearer picture than what is given now. I do wish that the press and media would report one story and not various stories that i have been hearing. We all know that it is the media that makes a small scence into a huge scandal. Lets not let it happen here there are other family memebers involved. Chris was a great werstler and a talented man, I will remember him and send my prayers.

Jesus Christ said, “judge not and thou shalt not be judged.” Since I’m not the Son of God, I will not judge Chris Benoit. That being said, I’m saddened that another great wrestler is gone, after Eddie Guerrero died only a short time ago. Unlike JBL, they were not wrestling gods, because there is only one; unlike Booker T, they were not royalty or kings, because once again, there is only one; still, the world of wrestling will miss their performance and I know that I will miss them both.

Tsk tsk tsk. Typical American attitude; making conclusions without all the facts.
Fact: Chris Benoit, his wife and young son are dead.
Assumption: Chris strangled his wife, smothered his son and then hanged himself.
Fact: Someone strangled his wife and smothered his son.
Fact: Legal prescription drugs were found in his home.
Fact: Chris Benoit had several vertebrae fused to mend a broken neck.
Fact: Most of the writers in this forum are speaking ill of the dead, and making judgments without all the facts.
Chris, your performances will be missed. To paraphrase a former WWF champion and Wrestling Hall of Famer: You were one of the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be.
Godspeed.

If you guys knew anything about Chris, you would know that he was a wonderful father and a true family man. For those of you that think he was ashamed of his son, obviously know nothing about him. How many countless times did he bring his son to the shows? That is not something someone does if they are ashamed. I just cannot believe how many of you are so willing to believe the worst when the report isn’t even in yet. Personally, I think he was set up. I will miss you Chris. R I P

I wonder if your dad dad strangled your mother then suffocated your brother/sister you would feel the same way, as you do about Chris Benoit? I suppose you are still a fan of O.J., and that if you were writing crap in the 40’s, you would fondly remember Hitler’s organizational skills. Who knows, if you were ever in a dark alley and you needed someone to help exterminate all the Jews in the alley maybe he too would have your back. I hope hope Chris Benoit continually has your back for all eternity in hell where you both will be roomates.

Hey, people - Mr. Allen is entitled to his opinion. Anyone coming on here and calling him “retarded” or an “idiot” just comes off sounding like a child.
You don’t have to agree with him. There is a way to disagree without resorting to calling him names. If people didn’t have dissenting opinions, we’d have nothing to talk about.
I for one, will miss the entertainment and incredible athletic display that Chris Benoit showcased on a nightly basis. He was no doubt an incredible athlete and entertainer.
At the same time, I have no room in my heart for sympathy for a man that can strangle his wife, and moreover, his seven year old son. Thinking about the moments of terror that boy must have gone through makes me hope that there is somewhere unpleasant that Mr. Benoit will spend eternity in.

I would like to say I’m surprised by everyone reaction to this article. So many haters and some many others. I am not sure what went on, in that house this week-end but so many people are calling the Canadian Crippler a murderer before anything has bee found out. I do not understand how anyone can do that. Yes he was famous, yes he was a wrestler and yes he was one of the best ones. The police have said they are taking this case like a murder suicide. But who killed who? Did the wife kill the child, who got killed by the father? The only people that could have told us this are now no longer with us.
Is it is guilty before being innocent? I think everyone needs to calm down and simply be rational here.
On one hand, you denouncers of Benoit should focus on denouncing the deaths of his wife and child, not the man himself. You didn’t know the man personally and don’t have all the facts of the case yet. On the other hand, you supporters need to decide whether you want to make a rational argument or merely offer your opinion - quite frankly irrelevant- as to what a great entertainer Benoit was and how great he SEEMED on screen. Most of you probably didn’t know him as a person either.

I have been physically ill just thinking about the whole thing. I watched wrestling during my jr high and high school years and just recently got back into it when my own 12 year old son began watching back in August of 2006. We even got tickets to the Peoria, IL Smackdown/ECW show and got to see Benoit wrestle. I have tried to explain to my son that sometimes people do things they shouldn’t do and sometimes people just do not think in their right mind.
Benoit was clearing not in a sane, healthy state of mind this past weekend. As far as what actually happened, with no note and no witness we will never know other than piecing together some facts and waiting for the final verdict from the authorities.
My wife says he is a bad person, my son says maybe he was set up (someone might have killed his wife and kid and he found them dead and couldn’t bear the pain). My wife says he doesn’t deserve to be a legend and shouldn’t be included in the hall of fame but personal life shouldn’t dictate professional life and he is a hall of famer in the professional wrestling world, just as Pete Rose should be in the baseball hall of fame because he was an extraordinary ball player.
On a side note, I agree with Stephen Winkler, Iconito needs to use word and run a spell check so he can come off as semi-intelligent. Maybe have one of the dozens of people that work at WWE check over his writing.
I take a drink of milk in honor of Woman and Daniel and for Benoit, I hope God has mercy on your soul, this wasn’t an act of a sane person, I only wished you could have gotten help and if you did look for help I hope where you looked they tried to help you.

Ok, this is really getting childish and pathetic from both side of this GOD DAMN STORY!!!!!!
Firstly, if he did it his soul will burn in hell and he will never become a WWE Hall of Famer as Vince wont let it happen.
Secondly, my fiancee (if that is how you spell it) has gone thru and read everything that was said here and then gone onto start a fight with me about why I’m writing this. I’m writing this because I am a man with feelings and what has been stated on here by both saides of the story are absolutely obserred!
CHris Benoit and his whole family were set up? Not going to happen! WWE script writers are having enough trouble coming up with a decent script now a days let alone something like this!
Honor the Wrestler! Yes, His character on WWE TV was a straight shooter and should be honored but none of us knew him personally as well as his good friends and family so why question his morals? Not until the report is 100% told!
Comments here are pointless until the 100% truth are told to the world and the man who wrote this article has more balls then the lot of us!
Chris Benoit was a great wrestler but i’m sorry to say that it doesn’t look good for his real life character!
But i’m not going to make any other judgments until the whole article of what happened to the Benoit family is told!
SHame on all of you who jump head first into an iodiotic internet fight that cannot and will not be won until the police give all the information!

I would imagine that you are also the type that will, at some point, say “she probably deserved it, damn women” or some other type of redneck, uneducated, depraved, retarded crap. Do the world a favor and don’t reproduce, there are enough dumb fck asholes running around already.

As i read over all of the comments from the majority of you hypocritical asses, I can’t help myself but to feel sorry for you idiots. How many of you grow up watching wrestling and how many of you loved what chris benoit did in the ring or knew what character he had in him. If you yatched the 3hrs. special you could see what kind of person benoit was through the stories that his friends told of him. Furthermore if you seen benoit with his kids you could not say half the crap you are spewing about chris benoit. In my eyes he will always be well respected for his in ring abilities and loved for the person that he was. For anyone to say otherwise was never a fan or could ever see the love and devotion he had in his eyes. We may never know why this happened or what was going on in benoits head to make him do these things. I do not believe this was a set up but I can not also see benoit doing the things that were said. I for one will always respect and admire chris benoit the wrestler and man. I will not let this one event deter my feelings of a great man. It was a horrific ordeal but as i said i can not see benoit doing those things and until further details come to pass i will not make any judgement toward chris benoits actions.

I am so glad to see this article. Yes what he did was horrible but none of us was there we don’t know what was going on. He needs to be remembered for 22 years of entertaining us not this horrible act. I feel sorry for his remaining family who has to read all the negative stuff people are writing about him. Think about his other children before writing all this mean stuff. RIP Benoit Family.

Okay, to all those people insulting Chris Benoit, P** OFF.
You have no right to just make assumptions about what happened and talk to the writer of this article like he’s a piece of crap
Everyone gets an opinion, sure. But save it till after you actually have all the facts, and dont just automatically comment back saying that everything the writer has says is wrong
Chances are, you arent a wrestling fan, wow. Maybe your a fan of say… Angelina Jolie.
If she died, you would automatically assume that it was not related to anything she did, and defend her like the writer has done to Chris Benoit.
You certainly wouldnt jump to conclusions before you even know the full story.
If you dont watch wrestling, you would have no idea what Chris Benoit is like anyways.
Ever seen him depressed or anything? Nope. So why would he kill his family, who he has always loved, and himself? NO REASON
So p** off and leave the poor guy alone. f*ing f* just jumping to conclusions and accusing people
GET LOST
YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT WATCH WRESTLING OR LIKE CHRIS BENOIT, SO THIS IS NOT RELATED TO YOU AT ALL
RIP Chris Benoit.

Innocent until PROVEN guilty No matter what any of you on here say, or what anyone else in the world says or thinks, Chris Benoit will still be Innocent until PROVEN guilty. Unless someone in the world admits, and can prove that they set Benoit up, NO ONE will ever know the truth. The only people that will ever know the complete truth are the people that were involved. Not the police. Not Vince McMahon. Not you. And not me. EVER.
The police report, the autopsy, none of this can be 100% accurate and true, no matter what you may want to believe. It is possible, that Chris committed this crime, just as the police say. It is also possible that someone cleverly thought this out, and set Benoit up. Coming from the people that knew Benoit, the first scenario seems unlikely. For those who didnt know him, and have just been skimming the internet, the second scenario seems unlikely. There is also a possibility that his whole family was a part of some sult, and it was some type of “sacrifice.” The possibilities are endless. What YOU or anyone else thinks or believes has no relevance, unless you were in the home and witnessed everything that happened.
Regardless of his personal life, and the way his life ended, it should not affect his great wrestling career. Chris Benoit was one of the greatest pro wrestlers to ever be in a ring. Chris Benoit may have been the best technical wrestler, ever. And Chris Benoit, should most definitely be in the WWE Hall of Fame. Benoit, the wrestler should be respected, just as he was before his tragic death. His accomplished career should never be forgotten.
All of you people who judge, and say he shall burn in hell, All of you shall be condemned, on your judgment day. Unless you know the truth, which you never will, do not judge. Your actions and judgments will be looked upon at some point in your life, Why condemn another man, for what you DO NOT know?
If Benoit did it, only to kill his family, why does he still have two children that are going through probably the hardest thing they will ever go through in life? If he truly did it because of his abusiveness, why are his other kids still alive? I’m sorry, did you say you didnt know he had two other children that are still alive? Thats because you have your head stuck somewhere it shouldnt be. Instead of condemning these childrens father, why dont you think about how they feel? And how you would feel if you were in their situation.
I will end this the same way it began. Innocent until proven guilty It will never be proven, therefore Benoit will remain innocent.

One last thing. Vince McMahon. Everyone knows he is an idiot. Yes, he may have helped maintain a billion dollar industry, but he is an idiot. His actions and words on Tuesday night, before ECW, were ridiculous. I find it completely ridiculous that he not let anyone in the WWE mention the name of “Mr. Benoit”, due to accusations. Chris Benoit, was a great wrestler, as I mentioned above, and his name should NEVER be removed nor “banned” from the WWE television shows. Vince McMahon is a coward for showing such weak character. If Benoit, does not become a WWE Hall of Famer, I will lose all respect for Vince, which I mostly have, and for the WWE business in whole. I hope that he will one day look back on his words Tuesday night, and realize what he did was completely wrong, unjust, and cowardly.

You guys need to stop judging and wait until all the infos are out! Don’t just don’t jump at name calling. Ok, if he did it. Then he’s a horrible person. Not his tv personlity. He’s tv personlity was awesome. ECW/Smackdown were coming to my town July. My husband & I were going to go just because of Chris. To me just still too surreal! I can’t get it through my head that I won’t be seeing him on ECW. Rest In Peace, Nancy,Daniel & The TV Chris Benoit.

When I started watching wretstling, Chris Benoit was still working at WCW. His character kind of grew on me. He never went through the drastic character changes that so many wrestlers go through. He was always just Chris Benoit, and through the years that was enough. But like it or not, in the end we all have to face the fact that it was a character. None of us really knew the person behind the character. So to make assumptions one way or the other is wrong.
I have been following the news stories just like everyone else, cause that is what we do when someone famous makes the headlines. When I first heard that the whole family was found dead, (and many of you may think this makes me less of a fan) the first thing I thought was that there was no way someone went into that house and killed all three of them. Something bad had gone on within that family. The odd thing is that it wasn’t till after I read about the unusual aspects of the case that I thought something didn’t sound right. Why send so many strange text messages, and the bibles, no suicide note? I am not saying that he didn’t do it, I am saying that the police are holding a lot back. In the end he probably did commit the crime. And his soul will perish for that for eternity. But right now, we need to think about his other two kids. Honestly they are going to have to live with this for the rest of their lives. It is going to follow them everywhere. For everyone to be so out spoken on your thoughts does not do anything for them. We have all had parents. They are not always perfect, and no matter what they do, a part of you is going to love them. It saddens me that this act was commited, and that two innocent people are dead, but what has our society come to when we can’t try and think about the children that are still alive that called this man dad. They can’t erase their memories of him. And all the stories and awful comments are not going to help them heal.
Furthermore, I cannot agree with so many people harrasing the author of this article for pointing out what Chris Benoit gave to the world up until this tragic event. This country was founded by people that didn’t want to be persecuted for their thoughts and beliefs. You know what they say about opinions………….everybody has one. So Bill I have to commend you on your level of proffesionalism, and for knowing that what you wrote was going to get you a lot of bad publicity, but believing in it enough to write it anyway.

Bill, you have great compassion. Love the sinner, hate the sin…
I believe the people casting judgment on Chris Benoit and calling for Bill to be fired need to examine themselves (and their hearts) carefully first. Burn in hell? Ok, question—will you be joining Chris there? The truth is if you don’t know Christ and aren’t living in His way b/4 you die, you probably will be side by side w/Chris “in hell” some day. Stop wasting time judging and take an inventory of the source of your principles. Is it God or your own vanity/pride? (the grade “your own paper”/”I’m a good person” principle—which is utter foolishness to the One who created you) Are you really good or have you ever hurt someone else? (It may not be murder but can someone somewhere out there say you’ve hurt them deeply?) What does God think of you and your daily actions? Do you follow His way completely? B/C if not—you aren’t different from Chris in His eyes! It is easy to look at someone who commits murder and react with scorn. But the scriptures say “He who hates his neighbor has already committed murder in his heart”. Check yourselves (and don’t judge—the same measure you judge will be measured back to you in every situation you do). You could be just like Chris—the truth is anyone of us can who choose to live our own way daily…apart from God and HIS way of doing things.
I pray for Nancy and Daniel…rest in total peace. May God keep you both close and dear to His heart.
For Chris, I pray the Lord has mercy and grace on your soul. I’m so sorry you where going through this darkness alone, that you didn’t get help and that you committed this heinous act. It is a tragedy and it destroyed lives. You were a great athlete and there were people who genuinely loved you, and while I hate your actions, I can respect and miss what you gave to others (including me) through your craft.

I was a huge Benoit fan, ive followed his career since 1993, But the facts are there, there is no cospiracy theory, he did it. People seem to think they know the man. He played a character, What you see on tv isnt the real person, wrestlings not real, its all fake! I dont understand how people can have any sympathy for him, he obviously had severe mental problems and surely his close friends must have noticed something. The response from some wrestling fans is quite disturbing, i know this has changed my opinion of wrestling. Chris Benoit was not a nice caring man, He was a violent killer who was mentally unstable, drugs may be the cause, but lots of people take drugs and they dont kill people. I only wish he were still alive so he would have to live with the guilt and pay for his crime. My sympathys go to his surviving children and Family.

I stumbled across this article whilst trying to find out information, and make sense of what happened to the Benoit family.
The dead do talk, through autopsy DNA and toxicology. It’s quite clear from the timeline, that Chris Benoit did indeed murder his wife and child. What we will probably never know is why.
I think the ‘set up’ theories are a means of processing the fact that the Benoit family are dead without having to accept the fact that Chris Benoit killed them and then himself.
I can understand why the writer feels as he does.
I remember being thrilled to see Chris Benoit arrive at WWE along with Eddie Guerrero, Perry Satrun and Dean Malenko, and as a wrestler he was much respected.
As a mother to a 16mth old son I cannot conceive how anyone could possibly harm their child.
I could not sit and watch the 3hr ‘tribute’ to Chris Benoit. I live in the UK and had recorded RAW ( it is screened at 2am our local time) to watch at a more reasonable hour. By the time I was ready to watch it I already knew what had happened, and deleted the show unseen.
What a waste of talent, reputation and respect.
What a utterly shameful end to 2 lives who were not Chris Benoit’s to take. ( and yes I can say that, I do not subscribe to any set up theory)

Chris Benoit was one of the most talented and impressive wrestlers in WWE history. He lived to entertain and to go out in front of a crowd and showcase his passion for that business. He was one of the greatest and bravest SOB out there. There can be no one that can take the place or legency of Chris Benoit. He was my hero. And whatever sitaution that may have occurred, I know that he was a great man. Who will be missed and loved. Chris was brilliant inside and out of the ring. He may not have been a great talker, but he had heart, compassion, and intensity. I will always remember and love the wrestler and hero millions of us have lost. People dont seem to be understanding that he killed his family! should we be so easy on all killers? we dont know whats going on in the head of most murderers, people have problems every day, far bigger then Benoits, The guy was probably a multi millionaire with fans all over the world and he led a lifestyle millions would want. I think it’s pathetic! I own the benoit dvd and he seems to have been brought up well and has close siblings, The guy had serious problems, you cant judge him differently beacause he was on tv, im sure hitler had his friends and he was probably a nice enough person to be around.. im not putting Benoit in the same category as Hitler. And its not like benoit just lost it, his wife filed for divorce already and he was injecting Daniel with growth hormones, If hitler was an exeptional gardner would you remember him as that? or for all the lives he took. It doesnt matter what you’ve done, when you kill someone thats how your remembered.

There is no one alive, that has watch Benoit in and out of the ring, that does not respect and remember him with fondness and love. Whatever the sitaution of this terrible tragedy, it does not change the man that we worshiped. For I know that the man in that ring was a king among knights. And thou he was not the tallest, or the strongest. When it came to passion, intensity and giving all of himself, he stood head and shoulders above them all. Chris Benoit was a great man, a great wrestler and a wonderful entertainer. He wasn’t a talker, but he was dedicated. He didn’t work because it was his job, he did it because it was his passion. Let us not forget the man we loved and worshiped. And in the wake of this terrible tragedy, let us not cast doubts or dirt on the name of Chris Benoit. For we will never know what truly took place, but I know that there is nothing that anyone can say that will change the fact that Chris Benoit was the best there was, there is and there ever will be. I love and miss Chirs Benoit. And expect to see his name in the history books of WWE. For wrestling will not be the same without it favorite leading man, “The Rabid Wolverine”. Millions of people were ready to throw the young men at Duke under the jail because of the ” horrible thing” that they did to a poor dancer. Well, what turned out? NOTHING! It was all FALSE! Lets all just wait til the FACTS come out before we judge this man. Right now everyone seems to have all the details from the media. The same media that was ready to put those INNOCENT boys in jail for many years This was a horrible tragedy and whoever is responsible will pay by the one true judge. Besides, who are we to judge someone, anyway? Instead of posting all this hate, lets all stop and pray for the families affected by this incident. God Bless you All

Bill Allen, your defense of a murderer has been noted.
Your idol worship is noted.
Your employer should be concerned.
You want a child murderer watching your back in a dark alley, along with Jet Li?
Grow up, man. These people aren’t superheroes, they are actors. ACTORS. Jet Li needs wires and bullet time to act, and Benoit needed steroids and painkillers to act.
You say you are educated but your worship of this man shows you to be stuck at the mentality of a 13 year old.
Any response in this column defending Benoit, or talking about conspiracies…you people are mentally ill. You worship actors on TV and allow them free reign to do as they please, and forgive them of anything.
Where was your forgiveness, say, for Harris and Klebold in Columbine? What’s the difference? Those two were just kids with unattentive parents and troubled minds. Benoit KILLED HIS OWN CHILD.

ok the whole debate about his state of mind I can abide, but conspiracy theories? are you joking? just because you love the guy there’s no way in hell its possible he could have done this? ive never heard anything so narrow minded. until proven, everything is a possibility right now, so yes it could have been one big set up for all I know. For all ANY OF YOU know, for that matter. but it also could be the case, and it seems to be the case, that he just killed his wife and kid and then hung himself. notice i said ‘it seems to be’, and that i am not trying to force my poorly thought out opinions on everybody until i know the facts. i dont have a problem with speculation, go right ahead, but you all seem to have made up your minds about what happened already and are trying to take down anyone who says differently. it seems obvious what happened, but it is not yet fact, so think carefully about whether you want to give your backing to a possible child murderer, and alternatively should he be proved innocent, you want to talk s** about the memory of a good entertainer and person. and yes he was a good entertainer, but if he does turn out to be guilty, he will be remembered for what he did. everybody seems upset and outraged by that, which i can’t get my head around. i think thats only fair - just because somebody does something good in life, it doesn’t automatically excuse them when they do something bad.

You retarded little t, stop with the hero worship b**.
You are the classic example of a man who has grown up never being able to physically express your masculinity, you live vicariously through others, rejoicing and revelling in men you consider “as hard as nails”.
This piece of drivel you have produced is not journalism, its personal lament at the passing of a wife-killer, a child murderer and a coward.

I will miss the wrestler Chris Benoit. Nobody but those close to him knew the other side of him. All we have is a media or wrestling image and that will be sorely missed by all fans.
Chris’ actions were inexcusable but for someone not to leave a suicide note clearly means that there was something more going on than we know.

Do you people have no F**king respect whatsoever? As has been stated before, all this speculation has not become fact. So until it is proven that he did these things, you should all have a little respect for the man. At least think of his other 2 kids….how hard do you think it is for them huh? they just lost their dad, mom and brother in this tragedy, and now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon that their father is a killer? come on people, do you have no consideration for anyone but yourselves? you can speculate all you want, but until 100% proven I will still continue to mourn the unfortunate passing of a WWE Legend and one of the Best Entertainers that has ever been. R.I.P. CHRIS BENOIT you will be greatly missed!

For me, there are far too many inaccuracies. For instance, when the messages were allegedly sent by Benoit, and when he was reported to have died. There seems to be more speculation being reported in the press than there seems to be fact. It is, as stated though, a bizarre turn of events.
Im not acting as judge and jury on Benoit for what he may or may not have done, but the truth will come out eventually.
In any case, my condolences to both the families of Benoit and his wife.

Chris Benoit was an awesome wrestler. He will be missed by everyone who knew him and all the fans of the WWE.
At the end of the day Chris was a normal person who had normal problems. No one will ever know the real answer to all the questions that we all have.
There are no real answers or proof of what happened in that house. Some of you just want to assume that he is gulity no matter what. Maybe some of you should take a few minutes and maybe read some newspapers and not just listen to everything that is stated on the tv. Get more facts before you just hand over a gulity verdict to Chris.
Chris Benoit, you are an awesome wrestler and one hell of a high flyer. You will be greatly missed by my family. Our prayers and sympathy are with the extended family.

I’m not going to get involved in the trash talking, or the speculation as to what “really” happened. My 11 year old son is a huge fan, and I’ll watch occasionally. I can tell you I never wanted to hear the words, “Mom, what’s murder-suicide?” come from my little boy’s mouth. I have done the best I can to explain to him the situation and stress the importance of staying away from the temptation of artifical means to bulk up. Even if steroids had nothing to do with this situation, my son’s goal in life is to be a WWE superstar, so I’m taking the opportunity while I can. Chris Benoit had demons, I pray for his soul.

Its not like Benoit was a serial killer who went and killed people year after year over the past 20 years.
He clearly had a mental breakdown of some sorts, killed his wife and then irrationally believed it was better for his son to die with him than live with what happened to his parents.
Granted I could buy into the ‘burn in hell’ crap so many are saying if he’d dismembered the family and taken a real sadistic way of killing them.
The kneejerk reactions and hypocrisy are actually quite frightening and as someone from the UK it actually scares me the level of anger and vitriol being spat by people who probably havent even watched a wrestling show or know anything about the guy.

This s** happens everyday around the world, yet the “nobodies” that do it are publicly slammed and condemned, IF and i state again IF he did do these things then yes he is to blame but at least show enough respect for his family and not drag his name through the mud. Im sure the story would be different if this happened to you or someone you know. I know for a fact you wouldn’t be this brutal if it was your father who did what Chris Benoit MIGHT have done. so have some consideration for his family and let them mourn his passing without all the media bulls*it.

What saddens me the most is wondering what could have possibly driven a man, who by all accounts, was a loving family man to kill his wife and son. Granted Nancy sited spousal abuse in a 2003 divorce petition but that doesn’t mean Benoit really was a abuser. I mean women have been known to lie about things like that especially when thier husband was worth millions. The bottom line is that no one except the Benoits’ will ever know what happened in thier home last weekend. So why don’t we leave off the speculation and the jumping to conclusions until ALL the evidence is in. I will miss Chris Benoit in the ring. I will continue to love and respect him for his contribution to pro wrestling and his work ehtic. If it is proven that he took the lives of his wife and son then I will try to forgive him.
People snap under pressure and pain everyday. Some enhanced by chemical abuse, some by simple mental defect. Do we disregard the good a man has done because his life ended in a horific, senseless manner. Some probably will…. But I won’t.
RIP Crippler

Benoit was a great wrestler. Based on what’s come out, he didn’t look like a great human being. Everyone here has a right to choose how to remember him. I’d rather remember him as the entertaining wrestler that he was before he committed these heinous crimes. You can call the author a moron or retarded all you want, but he’s entitled to remember Benoit however he wants. By the way, freedom of speech applies to all speech. It’s free speech when it’s something you believe. When it’s not, that person should be silenced immediately?! Talk about hypocrisy!

Who is to Blame What happen to the Benoit family is tragic. However no one knows the reason it happened. Now i agree there is no reason for someone to take anothers life, especially a childs. Nevertheless if steroids did play a role in this it could make a little more sense. We are only fans, we did not know the real Chris Benoit. From the statements made by his co-workers i can not believe he would deliberatly do something like this. What about wwe I have been a wrestling fan for over 15yrs and I am very Dissapointed in the way they are handling things. They have come right out and said steroids was not involved. They stated that the police said nothing about steroids. However, the police did say they found steroids in the home. Now they may or may not have been legal. nevertheless they were steroids. So why is it they are so sure steroids were not a factor. Several wwe superstars have died from steroid use. Some wwe superstars have come out and said steroid use was incouraged. So I leave it up to the public to figure out why they denied it. As far as wrestling I am through with the wwe. I only hope that someone will come along and give Vince a run for his money.

What the people leaving negative comments need to understand, is that for the fans of Chris Benoit, this hurts. Imagine if one of your family members did this, and you went online and began reading all of the negative comments. The first instinct would be to defend that person. So, that is where his fans are coming from. No one is defending WHAT HE DID. Many young fans looked up to him during his career. Imagine if YOUR hero did this. How would YOU feel?! Again, before some of you idiots comment, I am NOT saying what he did to his family was HEROIC. What he did to entertain his fans for 22 years WAS. Hope this helps.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe Chris killed his son because he did not want his son to live with the fact of knowing that his father killed his mother? We all have opinions but truth be told that is a hard life knowing that one parent killed another in spite of what the circumstances were and who was on what. Judgement after that fact is always bad but really who knew that this was in a man that was admired by many (and we still do not know the whole story). Let the most high do the judgement and pray that someday we will never have to be faced with this same situation. Death is always hard no matter how it happens.

For everyone jumping to conclusions and name bashing I have a simple but harsh truth. Every single day thousands of people are murdered and hundreds if not more commit suicide. Why is it ONLY so important when it’s someone famous? Why do you all cry out for blood if the person killed or the killer is someone from the entertainment business? You all make yourselves look very small and stupid. Yes I was and still am a Benoit fan. Yes i’ve read all the articles online and watched the news. NO I have not seen the police say “Chris Benoit DEFINATELY did it” I did see them say it would possibly take weeks if not MONTHS to make a final determination. What will all of you “burn in hell chris” people do if it comes out that someone else DID murder all 3? I already know…you’ll say ” oh I knew he couldn’t have done it” I’m ashamed to admit that in any way i’m linked to the human population. In my eyes we’re backstabbing, name slandering, war making, vermin. I send my wishes to his family and friends and to chris and nancy and their son. To vince I say “way to turn into a coward old man” Say what you will about me, I personally don’t care about anyones opinion about me. I have been a wrestling fan since I was a kid. And while most of you don’t understand wrestling it does take an incredible athlete to do those things they do. And while everything is still being investigated with Chris Benoit, I think that most of us are failing to remember the families that this is going to affect. We need to pray for them, they need our support and not negativity. Can you imagine what they are going through? (Would you want to?) I am going to miss watching the Wolverine too; however my prayers are with their families to help them cope with this tragedy and forgive people that are saying cruel things. And like Adam said everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But some of you are just plan evil hearted. We don’t know ANYTHING about their life. Just remember what the Bible says about being judged in Matthew 7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. I am not preaching just stating a fact.

First off, he just killed one woman and one kid, big deal. The important thing is that at 220 lbs he only had five per cent body fat! Man, that should be the headlines, not the fact that two people died, who said they’d live forever anyway. Have you seen his biceps? His biceps, calves and neck were all the same size, perfect symmetry man, perfect. He could squat over 400 lbs for sets of 15. You know how much he could bench? You guys are missing the important part. The guy was massive and cut and could curl sixty-five pound dumbells for high reps. Can you do that? Did you see his delts, the three deltoids? His rear deltoids were huge man! And the chest, what a chest. I bet he could do seventy-five pound flys with no effort, without a spot.

I’d just like to start off by saying that it is very unfortunate for what happened to that family, and all of wrestling, including fans. Chris was a great wrestler and no one will ever be able to take that away from his name or legacy, if everyone wrestled with his dedication then it would be second to baseball as a national pastime. Its so easy to say that he killed his wife and son, because thats what you’ve already been told. I’m a realist and know that that is most likely the explanation, despite my love of him as a wrestler you cant get past the fact that he had issues, and there were severe marital problems present. I don’t feel bad for the author because he is being ridiculed, and i don’t feel bad for the people doing the ridiculing. Some are taking it to a level that is completely unnecessary, and to those i do regretfully feel bad for, because their ignorance of the humanity and freedom of thoughts, beliefs, and most importantly speech is only a trademark characteristic of ignorant behavior (your a moron, idiot, piece of trash, for those who need clarification). This guy loved wrestling, he loved Benoit as a wrestler, countless athletes have done similar things in the past and have been redeemed among their fans. Naysayers have their choice words, but they soon forget about it all…the point is that to those who truly care, the athlete/actor/pornstar/teacher/whatever the case may be, they superceed the act in question and live on forever as they were remembered so fondly. So before you pass judgment, think of your favorite persona raping/killing someone and then saying their a worthless piece of $h!t…if you can, then i guess you just will never understand

What about “Woman”; the wife he killed? As the oldtimers know; she was very much involved in wrestling, yet the news stations and author of this blog are only concentrating on how great Benoit was. My heart goes out to her family and know that her contributions also matter. RIP Woman..you represented well.

Optimus, if the author here only said that he loved Benoit as a wrestler, I probably wouldn’t even have commented. But this weirdo (freedom of speech) talked like he wanted to walk off in the sunset with him AFTER he knew what he did. Yes, if someone I was a fan of did this, I’d say he was a piece of garbage and I’m glad he’s dead. But that’s because basic morality to me is more important than any entertainer. IE. Paris Hilton (who I don’t particularly care for) has issues, Benoit IS garbage.

I have only read a few of the comments others have made. People will be what they want to believe.
Personally, I don’t see how Chris could have done this. I saw what the text messages said that went out and it just screams for help. Either he wanted someone to stop him or he needed help.
I just don’t think he did it. Who’s not to say that Chris wasn’t drugged and bound to that weight machine while his wife and child were killed?
I’m just saying you can’t put the cart before the horse nor the verdict before the evidence.
Watch CSI people. Come on.

Although I don’t live there now, Duluth is my hometown and I resent that you would epitaphize this monster. If he was taking steroids, it is certain he knew the effects they have. This was not his first time on that horse. If he was not taking steroids, I have even less sympathy for him. I understand depression personally, but I could never take the life of my family. It is inexcusable. Shame on you.

For those who argue that Benoit definately killed his wife and son, I must point out that you can’t say he definately did unless there is some kind of photographic evidence of the act occuring.
However, it doesn’t take a genius to realise that the length of time between the first murder of his wife, and the second murder of his son would suggest that the likelihood of the murderer being someone from outside the Benoit residence (i.e. Chris Benoit) is extremely unlikely. Does anyone on this forum seriously believe that Benoit would ring up work and inform them of his wife and son being ill when his wife was in fact dead. Some may argue that the psychotic stalker that obviously set up Benoit obviously must have forced Benoit to ring work and tell them of his family’s apparent illness.
And to those that claim that Benoit can’t have done it because he always appeared so kind, considerate and generally not-a-murderer on television, you only have to look back to the examples of history to show that you can’t necessarily judge someone by how they appear on TV. OJ Simpson being the most obvious example.
I’ll quite happily admit that at this moment, the public is unaware of any definate evidence that confirms Benoit as the murderer, however it would be a sign of great naivity to claim that anything other than Benoit being the murderer at this moment in time is more probable. For those knowledgable of the Bob Woolmer case in the Cricket World Cup this summer (the Pakistan team coach who mysteriously died after his team lost to Ireland), it shows that people’s first assumptions can be wrong, as what was considered to be a murder for several weeks was later classified a heart attack. The fact of this matter however, is that the likelihood is that Benoit did kill his wife and child.
I would like to make the point now that I am going to refrain from saying anything like burn in hell, Benoit as despite being agnostic, I feel that to use such a harsh expression would in fact be disrespectful to the Christian faith (one of my greatest greivances with Christianity being that it preaches forgiveness and tolerance, and yet these qualities are lacking in an awful lot of the Christians that I meet). I fully accept that what Benoit seems to have done is dispicable, however I feel that it is not my place to judge Benoit as a person, but only to judge the acts that he has commited (i.e. I won’t condemn the man to hell, yet I am aware of the extreme nature of his acts and in no way commend them).

I would agree that what Chris did was deplorable and heinous. But this is a man who has been a hero of mine for several years. I’ve watched wresling for nearly 30 years and in that time there has never been another with the intensity and work ethic that Chris gave to this industry. I think there was more to this than we are ever going to know so for all of you quick to judge this man due to his personal problems; none of us even knew him personally, so take a look back on your life and see how perfect you are. Ill bet that more than 50 percent of the idiots bashing the crippler have some sort of violent past or things they regret doing when they were in another state of mind. Just think about it. I could go on and on but from the looks of things I’m probably wasting my time if only assbags like some of the holier than thou before me are going to respond. But I hope that there are more people out there like me and the author.

It is VERY sad and hard to believe. However, the fact is, unless you were in the Benoit house when it happened, you ALL should shut the FUp. Everything that is said is opinion of unknowing people. The police CSI, the WWE, friends and family will ONLY ever have their pieces of the story and they may let us know all of the pieces or not…whatever… the fact is, his family is dead and he is dead. The greater sadness is that evidence is leading to him as the perpetrator of the crime and that is devastatingly sad. It is even sadder to know a child’s life has been ended. It hurts even more hearing how this man Chris Benoit represented himself in public and professionally. Does it make sense? NO! Is it tragic? VERY! Hopefully we will get all the information without any spin and be able to understand what happened, to once a very inspirational man and his family.

Its sad that a great wrestler like Chris and the death of his family. He was a great entertainer in the industry. He had overcome so much and to ended it the way it did.we can only imagine what has been going threw his mind. Women his wife was a very important person in his life along with his son. Its sad. But I feel that the wrestling industry needs to take a better look and try to steer alot of wrestlers away from steroids. May they all rest in peace. we will never know what happened to lead up to this tragedy. I feel for the family, fellow wrestlers, and for all the fans. Chris will always be remember as a terrific wrestler. Lets not let this tragedy ruin his career and what he has done for the wrestling world.

I don’t know what is more troubling - this column or some of the comments left here.
Most of the people responding seem to get it: Chris Benoit was a killer who murdered his wife and innocent child. He deserves none of our pity or respect. Most of you get it.
But a few people are actually making excuses for what he did? Or concocting bizarre conspiracy theories to explain how Benoit was “framed”? Good grief!

Why, Daddy, why? Why are all these people defending you? They never knew you like I did, or Mommy did. They think you are a good person. But, do good people murder little children? Hi- Im a British Wrestling Fanatic- well was and I Imagine I at some point will get back 2 loving it- wether it be actually competing in the industry or just supporting it- I Have only just foundout about Chris Benoits Demise and I cant believe it him and guerrero? and all the others- He was one of my favourite perfomers and one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. I was shocked and am now even more shocked a man who from what I could gather was calm and kind and a gentle person outside the ring- who loved his family and friends so much I find it hard to believe he could possibly do this to his family- I instantly wanted to POST up tributes of R.I.P But having researched the circumstances surrounding his death and then finding out his family died- because he killed them Im dumbfounded and at a loss of what to think- n Im sorry to promote controversary and conspiracy- but Im not sure I can believe he’d do it- were there outside forces involved??? either way I Will Never Stop being a fan of Chris Benoit The Wrestler- Legend Of Our Time- but Chris Benoit the murderer is Completely Sick- if thats what he is, I for one wouldnt be so fast to judge the humble human being of a man, I Want The Truth. R.I.P RABID WOLVERINE, We Love + Miss You If He did this in such a way Im not sure he deserves to rest in peace …. but otherwise and eitherway Good Bye Benoit

This tragedy brings up alot of bad memories for me…for anyone to judge is wrong…let he who is without sin be the first to cast a stone…My heart goes out to the rest of the Benoit family there will be alot of different emotions for the next few months or years to come…To say that I know Completely what you are going through I can’t…However having lost a member of my family to suicide over 10 years ago I feel for you…while it has been so long ago I as well as other members of my family have went through so many emotions and to this day are still going through it…you will forgive with time but will never forget…and apart of you will always be angry…I would love to say it will get better with time but it doesn’t…also 6 years ago my younger sisters friend was killed with 2 of his sisters by his father…the surviving family members did forgive the father but are still wondering why? I do not think it is right for anyone to be commenting in these harsh ways without knowing the victims personally…the Benoit family are the only ones who have the right to be judgeing here…so my sympithy goes out to the Benoit family…pay no attention to harsh opinions of people who have no Idea who the Victims were besides for what they have read in an article…be strong think about the good times…don’t reflect on this tragedy…RIP Chris,Daniel, and Nancy

Do not EVER repeat that LAME idea that Benoit was “The victim” because of depression or some candyass B/S “mental condition” that psychiatrists and drug companies make up to collect billions of dollars. There is Right and there is Wrong and we all know that murdering two people, including a seven year old who happens to be YOUR SON, ain’t Right, no matter which way you slice it.

Stay w/ me for a sec… I think Daniel did it.
Think about it, people!!! Its so obvious.
There is no way a “professional wrestler” could ever do anything like this.
Daniel killed his mother and father, staged the scene so that it would look like Chris did it, THEN Daniel killed himself by putting himself in a wrestling chokehold.
Its so obvious. That way it LOOKED like Chris did it, and Daniel gets off scot free.

This is a blog where people are entitled to their own opinions. Mr. Allen, thank you for yours. I for one hope that you do not get discouraged from continuing your blog as some have indicated that you should.
If the readers of this article and posters to this blog will read, Mr. Allen does not in any way condone or minimize what has happened in the Benoit family tragedy, he is merely stating an opinion about the entertainment value and athleticism that Chris Benoit provided for his fans, of which he was. I am not a wrestling fan, but I do appreciate Mr. Allen’s blog and would like to see it continue. I have enjoyed reading the educated postings that don’t belittle others (including the author) and themselves in the words that they choose.
Mr. Allen, your tribute was very well written. I am in agreement with your comment “… we should reserve judgment until we know what may have been going on … “ We will never know what was going on in his head, but we should know more about what happened as the facts are revealed in the coming days.

I find it a bit scary that so many people are saying how Chris will be so missed when he murdered his wife and young son. The evidence found at the scene definitely looks like this guy wacked his wife & kid and then offed himself. As far as conspiracy theories, the only 1 that makes any sense is this: That WCW or whatever it is called in Stamford , Conn. is completely run by a bunch of criminals and con-men. All of them have either been in jail or are going soon. It is so mobbed up it isn’t funny. I imagine this guy wouldn’t play nice with the gangsters or saw something he shouldn’t have and they sent a team down to Fayetteville to close out the problem. If they had just wacked him, the Feds would be all over that company investigating his role in it.

Are you insane?!?!?! I know he was a great wrestler and he was very cordial. I met him at the airport in San Antonio after one of his doctor visits. But, lets get real. This man deserves no honors. Not only was he so selfish he killed himself (robbing his children of their father) He was so selfish that he took two innocent people with him. As far as I am concerned I hope that the WWE will completely strike him from their and our memories. I hope he NEVER will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as that would be a disgrace to all the wonderful people who have been inducted to include a MURDERER would just be wrong!!!! If Pete Rose can’t get in (and all he did was gamble) then this ANIMAL certainly does not deserve such recognition. I guess the person that gave him the nickname RABID was right, he really was a rabid animal that deserves to burn in hades. I do want to thank Vince for his quick thinking (I am sure he suspected the fates of the Benoit family) his tribute gave us the WWE fans one last wonderful moment to view Benoit as a hero, he gave him his last moment in the spotlight, thanks to his quick thinking we were able to relive some great memories before the shock of what that ANIMAL had done came to light. I just thank God that his other children were not with him at the time. I hate to think of what might have happened.

You know ingnorance is bliss. Some of you people on here are no better then he is. Wishing a person to hell is a sin, and yet that explains why bad things happen the way they do. So you cant JUDGE him for anything at all when you sin yourself. Who needs enemies when we have criticizers like Tony. Benoit should be remembered for the legacy he created, everyones lives he touched, and the smile he put on the fans faces, not for the one mistake that he made. And yes it was a mistake that noone has the right to judge on because noone knows what he was thinking or going through.

I have been a wrestler for years, and we all have our problems; but NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, warrants killing, especially a seven year old child. Chris’ actions in the business were admireable; however, his actions as a human being are less than desireable. People have problems every day, but they don’t kill their families. All of this “I’ll miss you Chris” needs to stop. We need to see this guy for what he was — not a crippler, but a KILLER. I personally agree with WWE’s statement that steroids were NOT the cause. This was not a rage; this took planning and a lot of thought to commit two murders and a suicide over a three day period. Chris was a weak individual, and I for one will certainly not miss him. He deserves NO honors what so ever in the business of professional wrestling. I feel for Chris’ family, but not him.

I read through some of this and found some of you to be profoundly stupid. You have judged, juried and convicted a man before all the evidence has come in. How does this happen? Well the small fragments of reports that become large tales in the press is how that happens. You take everything the press says and you make a conviction that is NOT yours to make. Here are some things that do not make sense: Press reported early on he was called home due to an illness. Who made that call and why? Some of you are saying the boy had problems, Benoit was frustated with the situation and did him in. How come it took him 7 years to get frustrated with this situation? Sure Nancy filed for divorce and omg that makes Benoit a cold blooded killer now doesn’t it. Funny part is the detective that reported that has yet to see the paper work on that, none the less he reported it. Clearly text messages were sent trying to get someone to come to the freakin home. THERE HELP CALLS. Who made them? Nancy or was Benoit trying to save his own freakin life from a cold calculated murderer who just might have pulled of the perfect murder of 3. Above all another press reports Benoits body was found in a seated position. SOMEONE TELL ME HOW THE HELL A GUY HANGS HIMSELF AND CAN BE FOUND SITTING DOWN YOU FOOLS. Now how bout if you Act like human beings and wait until all evidence is produced and remember this would not be the first time a murder went walking while someone else got the blame, and your surely helping the investigators shut this case in a hurry and look no further. Also keep in mind there are other children out there that belong to the family that are victims of your abusive reaction of convicting without letting the evidence come in. burn in hell. you want to kill your self, do it. be a coward, but don’t take out a 7 year old innocent boy! he had nothing to do with your issues. all that poor boy knew in life, was i love my dad. And you killed him, sick son of a b*tch. the trust that child had in you. I hope there is a hell, and I hope you are feeling the flames right now.

Everybody is having their own opinions on Chris Benoit and his actions. Here are mine. I was shocked when I heard the news. Chris Benoit was one of the greatest wrestlers ever to grace the ring. I was a huge fan of his. I am very sorry he chose to act this way and the concequences of his actions are unforgiveable.
I will however miss the Rabid Wolverine who entertained all the WWE fans around the world and who never showed a moments cowardness or quit in his wrestling career.
I cannot forgive what he has done but his wrestling grit will always be remembered by myself and the wwe fans. My best wishes and sympathies go to the families involved and to the WWE. I hope when the facts have emerged closure on this tragedy will come to all who need it.

I miss him, too, Bill. He was a wonderful wrestler, and he always seemed to be a good man who loved his family. I don’t know what happened — brain tumor, stroke, some super-stressful event that caused him to crack — but I don’t believe he was in his right mind. If he were a malicious or violent man by nature, there would have been signs of it before now. I think he was as much a victim of this tragedy as his wife and child were, and my heart goes out to his surviving family members.

We all know if this was say your American Folk Lore and Legend Paris Hilton you all would be like, oh she prolly had a good reason for aceing her husband and child, she wasn’t getting what she needed, I feel so sorry for her. Fact, the man had issues, what he did was wrong enough said, no need to soil yourself with slandering something that cannot be undone, so please shut up.

I would first like to say that I send out my deepest regrets to the Benoit family and all affected by this tragedy. Secondly, I would like to remind people that we are in the early stages of an investigation and that they most likely don’t even have an ME report yet, not do they have a toxicology report. You have not seen the crime scene and do not know the details other then what has been reported. Yes they found anabolic steroids in the house, but they also did not tell you that Benoit was out not too long ago for neck injury. Also they have stated that his son was given a growth hormone. Guess what either of these could be the reason for the prescription anabolic steroid, it is prescribed in both cases. None of us were there and we don’t know all that perspired that weekend. We may never truly know. But one thing is that until I have the fact I am not crucifying anyone or spewing hatred about a situation I know nothing about. I do not condone murder for any reason, and believe that the truth will always prevail. It was not too long ago the Eddie Guerrero died. The headlines were smeared that he was on drugs again and that it was an overdose. A man that had worked so hard for years to get clean and stay clean and the first thing his kids saw on the news was daddy’s on drugs again. This turned out not to be the FACT but just a media spun rumor that no one apologized for later when it was discovered that he died from the side effects of years of too much partying and stress to the cardiovascular system. The drugs and partying had caused the vascular tissue to shrink and combined with hard workouts and on pushing themselves physically 300 days out of the year. So, moral of the story is we know nothing but pretend to know everything and jumping to a conclusion with out ALL the FACTS makes you no better then a murder yourself as it is hatred and fear that creates murder.

It makes me sick to see how many people are above me attacking this man for expressing his opinion. It’s interesting how circumstances always seem to effect someone’s opinion. I have a feeling most of the negative comments are coming from people who already hate the world of pro wrestling and are gleefully lapping up this tragedy. I have a feeling if the perpetrater of this gruesome act had been one of their favorite football players or maybe a famous hollywood actor they would not be so quick to judge. I think it is very difficult for all of us who really respected Chris benoit as a wrestler and simply as a profesional to accept he was capable of this horrible act. We feel as if we have gotten to know him over the years from watching two to three times a week on TV, and we know that man was not capable of this. I beleive it is sad but true that we all have our very darksides. It really only takes a series of extremly unforunate circumstances to turn a normal man into a murder. And I beleive those that are spitting out some very venomous vitriol above me are probably closer to the edge than they care to admit. I think wrestling fans should remember Benoit as they knew him for twenty years of their lives, not for his terrible final actions. In relation to the roid rage angle, and the whole what is the terrible sickness aflicting wrestlers that leads them down this dark road. I think people should look into Benoit’s religious beleifs considering he placed a bible by the victims bodies. I think it can not be denied that more people have died due to religious reasons than any person due to anything having to due with steroids. I am not a religious person, and I don’t beleive in God or Hell or any of that, but I definitely don’t think it is any human beings job to judge the soul of Chris Benoit. If you feel you must I would suggest watching the Movie Spiderman 3. It may sound hokey, but I think what Aunt May tells Peter Parker after he tells her that Spiderman killed the Sandman is a really poignent statement on letting vengance fester in your heart. P. S. Bill Allen, thanks for having the guts to say what you feel.

No one knows the state of mind in the house at that time. NONE of you should judge thats NOT your job. God will do that. Chris was an entertainer and that he did well. For the ones who feel that they need to judge. Take a look at yourselves.

Okay, SMART ONE: If I was an investigating officer on this case or the governor of GA. I would not have spoken. But considering I am a private citizen I can.
I have ZERO respect for anyone saying if he was guilty he could still have been a great guy.
Yes, I believe the original writer to be a weirdo of immense proportions.
If somebody is arguing that Chris Benoit was murdered himself and we’re all jumping to conclusions, I can respect that argument. I admit I’m assuming he is guilty. I have the right to assume because I’m not the judge or jury. If he is innocent I will eat my words. 100-1 Guilty.

Now, here’s a thought.
Benoit allegedly killed his wife and kid. And people say he’s a murderer and will burn in hell.
In the first Gulf War, I personally executed over three dozen men, women and children, but I’m regarded as a hero.
And all you people saying “Benoit, burn in hell”, you yourself will burn in hell, for the Bible tells us “Judge not, lest ye be judged.”
I’ll see you in Hell. I’ll be wearing a white carnation.

Although I read blogs semi-regularly, I am still amazed at the stupidity most of you display. Yes it is true that all the facts aren’t in yet, however deductive reasoning goes a long way and basically 1+1+1=3. Which leads to strangled wife + smothered child + dead man hanging = murder/suicide. Unfortunately statistics show this to be the case, so all of the “hero” worship in the world doesn’t change the scenario. I seriously doubt this so-called set-up theory some of you are inventing, he wasn’t that famous of a wrestler for some one to find him that much of a threat..besides an outsider would have used a quicker method, like 2 shots to the head. Strangling, hanging and smothering are more personal methods of killing. However, my mother raised me better than to come on here and write venomous words about Mr. Benoit, but I find it really sad that the murder of two innocent people was referred to as ” one incident” that shouldn’t dictate the view of Benoit, because if he did indeed commit this heinous crime, it is exactly what he should be remembered for.

As someone already pointed out, the “setup theories” and “wait till all the facts come out” is just a denial expression. You don’t want to accept the fact that all three are dead and it’s at the hands (literally) of Benoit.
As for the people who for some reason are saying “you aren’t a fan, so p* off”… first, I don’t get what being a fan has to do with it. I’m a fan. I’ve loved and watched wrestling for a little over 20 yrs. Been a fan of Benoit for 10 yrs. When I heard he and his family were dead, I was sick to my stomach. I watched the tribute on TV Monday night and could barely watch, just feeling sad for him, his wife and especially that little boy. My girlfriend cried when we watched it and I barely could hold back. Eddie Guerrero, Perfect, BullDog, Owen Hart… all recent deaths and tragic. This one really hit hardest though when you add his family also is dead.
Like a lot of people, I assumed someone was out there and would pay for this and I couldn’t wait for justics to be served. The thought that it was possibly Benoit responsible didn’t even cross my mind. Not even the last thing on my mind, it just never seemed like an option.
But the fact is his wife died early in the weekend. Friday maybe. Fact is his son died sometimes after that. Fact is he called and spoke to people on the phone and sounded strange. Making up excuses for not being there, including his family suffering food poisoning. This is not just text messaging, it’s phone calls. His voice. Him talking, lying to people while his family is next to him dead. There was no setup. There was no Benoit walking into his home with his family dead. His wife didn’t kill their kid with her hands and feet bound and she didn’t strangle herself. This wasn’t roid rage, this was a long dragged out process of murder and suicide. Of his own wife. Hell, even if she was the worst B** to ever live, didn’t deserve to die under any circumstances. And the little boy? All you people saying “who are we to judge?”, I wonder how hard you would be to judge if your 7 yr old boy in the hands of a killer that takes his life. I wonder how much you would struggle with not judging that person.
Me? I have no problem judging a person that kills his wife. Should have left her, dude. You’re not God, you have no right to take a life. And I really have no problem judging a person, who would take his own 7yr old boy, that looked up to him like nobody’s business, who was “small” and maybe physically “weak” that looked at his big, strong dad as his hero, his protector, and just cover him up and not let him breathe and hear him die in your hands. I have no problem judging that at all. Chris, for all of your tough guy “act” in the ring, you turned out to not be more than a piece of sh** coward and I hope you enjoy burning in hell.
And for you people that go on with seperating the real person with the Benoit you saw in the ring (including you Mr. Journalist blogger), wake up. How can you admire what he did in the ring and say you’re gonna miss him, knowing what he really was? “Whatever sitaution that may have occurred, I know that he was a great man”. Are you kidding? “We don’t know what was going through his head”, uhmmm, who cares? Whatever was in his head resulted in two innocent people being dead. “We don’t know why he did this”, so what? Does it matter? If someone killed your mom, your son, you nephew, your sister… would knowing “why” make a bit of difference on how much you still respected what a great car salesman, waiter, lawyer, comunity leader, etc. he was? I wonder if you would blog about what a great guy he was aside from, you know, being a killer.

Wrestling fan 4ever, we were’nt in that house when this happened, but we know from the police what happened. Unless you are accusing the police of lying. The person who wrote this article is sick and probably abusive towards his wife and or child, hence the sympathy. I have heard people call this man everything from a hero to a good man who loved his family. Men who love their families don’t kill their 7-year-old son and wife “AT ALL”. There were even people who brought their kids to the scene of this horrific crime—to let their children wish him well in heaven with his wife and son. All I can say is that you are all a bunch of psycho-hypocrites. What makes him any different from that nut-cop who killed him girlfriend and unborn baby in Ohio “NOTHING”. Why is Benoit a hero and this guy a monster. If you keep feeding your children this mess about Benoit being great they will think it’s okay to do the very same thing to thier families. Remember children imitate life. As for PHYLLIS you need some serious help child.

To the idiots that say we don’t know what happened yet. The first response in this blog was posted on 06/26 at 11:38PM.
At this point Vince had already distanced himself and the WWE shopzone had removed Chris from their search engine because the facts were known. Plain and freaking simple, Chris had contacted the WWE at 3:42 Saturday stating he missed his flight because his wife and son had food poisoning. That was a lie. His wife had been dead a day. Had Chris said he didn’t know where his wife was then a “setup” could be factored in. But he said they had food poisoning.
To the blog creator, you are a clown for glorying Chris. You have a responsibility even in a blog to do the right thing. I guess because OJ was the first to break 2000 yds in a season you would overlook his acts too.

Thanks for the article, it’s not too far off from the way I feel. About the only time I catch wrestling anymore is when I’m channel-flipping, but I remember Benoit’s reputation as a hard-working, respectful, “good guy” that nobody had an ill word for.
Obviously there were some bad things going on within the family before this occurred — and it seemed like they unfortunately were very well hidden — but for it to reach a point where an entire family is destroyed, I feel much more sadness and puzzlement about what could have brought it to this than I have anger toward Benoit.

I think that the blog is a great remembrance of an athlete that true professional wrestling fans will hold to heart, but we must realize the matter at hand. There are three people dead. folks need to realize one thing. There is only one person who holds the right to judge the actions of Chris Benoit. That person is God. To those who have the judgemental felings I say to you, you will also be judged by the same God. We may never know what was going through his head but one thing is for certain, the facts all have to be revealed before anyone can make an assumption

Chris Benoit was one of my favorite WWE superstars! on my top ten list! Probably my second favorite! I know he killed his innocent family and himself but I still like Benoit! Anybody on the whole damn evil internet can say I’m crazy! I respected every single thing that Chris Benoit Acommplished! I’m not angry at Benoit for what he did I’m just saddened and ashamed of how this happened! Unlike everyone else I will not say that Chris Benoit deserved to go to hell! I’m sure he is there but I know one thing that his son Daniel is in heaven for sure! I’m not God but I’m pretty sure that “Latino Heat” Eddie Guerrero is in Heaven! Anyway to the rest of the Benoit family I’m sorry about your horrific loss! Same goes to the friends of the crippler! Even if your buring in hell Chris RIP! I know that even if I didn’t know you personally I know that you really were a kind and loving man who loved his family! You were just sick in the end and needed help! (Damn those WWE co Workers for not going to Benoit’s to stop this crime!) I am very angry with the people who invented steroids! I am angry at people that don’t have any compassion for Benoit! RIP Nancy, Daniel! RIP Chris “the rapid wolverine” Benoit! God Bless!

There are two types of people posting on these boards - one group such as myself where we were fans of Benoit in the ring and can imagine what made him do this and the other group are people who read the story and writes BURN IN HELL CHRIS messages.
I think all the fans who ever watched or met Chris are expressing disbelief because from everyone who has talked to him or known him he was a good person. There is no excuse for what he did but we are shocked that a man who provided many great matches in the ring and so loved and respected by his peers would do this.
I applaud Bill Allen because he is remembering Chris for his 20 years IN THE RING and NOT THE Chris of 6/22-6/24. This is the feeling of many wrestling fans. Chris will always be remembered for this tragedy but we cannot simply disregard everything that has happened in the 40 years of his life.

This is how I feel First my condolences go out to the rest of all the families envolved in this terrible situation 2nd to Chris if you can hear me what you did was WRONG if you were that bad off you could have taken your own life and NOT the life of the people you loved you shamed no one but your self for this Vince Mc Mahon has a little blame himself as well he makes it hard to stay on top of THE GAME and as you get older and your body cannot endure the pain and suffering that Being in this business THAT YOU CHOSE TO DO puts on you you have to try to get that edge that you need to stay up there as a HEADLINER and not go down to being a SCRUB and a OPENING ACT like some of the others do or have done Hulk Hogan was one of the only ones who was able to stand up to the BIG BAD Mc MAHON and say he forced me to use STEROIDS to stay on top of the game and when that came to pass VINCE tried to cover his A* but the people already knew what his goal was to be the best sports entertainnment company on the planet BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY and you chose to be one of the TOP PLAYERS in THE GAME but again it was YOUR CHOICE and as intence a wrestler as you were and the pain you endured to do those high flying moves you needed to take the drugs you to stay on top that is where you made a bad choice but I’m sure that Vince may have forced you into to doing it NOT directly but in his own little way he played a role Like putting you in the ECW and not one of the other Groups but regaurdless it was YOUR choice to stay there and you did and now you and your innocent family paid the price for it I will say this YES you were a great wrestler Yes you were a star performer BUT when you were starting to feel the pain getting to you you took the CHEAP way out I’m Not mad at you as you fellow wrestler KING BOOKER would Say ” DON”T HATE THE PLAYA HATE THE GAME” I’m upset with the way you handled this if God does except you in heaven to be with the rest of your family you better thank him 100 times over because I feel that you need to suffer more that you did for taking 2 innocent lifes with you again I don’t HATE you you just made a BAD choice I just hope that if and when I get to heaven and god just so happen to let you in I could talk to you and ask you WHAT IN H#*L WERE YOU THINKING making other people suffer for what you brought on yourself and as for MR. VINCENT KENNEDY Mc MAHON you better watch you BACK because you have been put on notice again that Drug use in you company is there and you better catch it now before it gets more out of hand than it is already start easing up on your demands to your performers so they are not forced to a CHRIS BENOIT and hurt more innocent people and to all the Chris Haters out there ease up the man is gone and I’m sure the rest of the families that are still around and living don’t want to hear you trashing a member of there family I know I sure wouldn’t like it so keep you negative comments to your self or find a another blog full of inconsiderate boneheads like yourselfs think about the other 2 people involved not just Chris they had feelings too and their families that are still out there reading these blogs and remember people “DON”T HATE THE PLAYA HATE THE GAME” and it’s owners who make them do what they do to stay on top remember he was a HERO and a proffessional he made a BAD choice and it could happen to the best of us other people take their own lifes too when the pressure gets unbearable and then there are the STRONG who Survive LIKE ME REST IN PEACE BENOIT FAMILY

If he did this to his wife and child he will be judged by someone better than you. If he did not do it,than let the authorities do their job and find out who did. How many times do you hear or read about someone killing their wife, child, parents, someone, anyone? This is usually followed by friends, family members, co-workers saying how they can’t believe it, the accused was a kind, gentle loving person. These things happen all the time, people snap for whatever reason and do terrible things that no one would ever think they would do.
We don’t have all the facts but we do have some, and it seems pretty clear that for some reason Chris snapped and killed his family, then himself. I don’t blame people for not wanting to believe it, and I don’t blame people who are sad and will miss watching him. But I hope that those same people open their eyes and realize that he probably did this, he wasn’t set up by anyone and that no one should be saying RIP for him, he committed a heinous act and he should rot in hell for what he did.
May His wife and his young son rest in peace.

All i can say is wow. I mean NOBODY has any idea what his personal life was like. There may have been things going on like maybe his wife was cheating on him or he found out the boy wasnt his. He is on the road for like 300 days a year. This might explain why he would murder the boy. Its just so hard to fathom why. What really creeps me out though is that he didnt commit suicide for like another days after the murders and he had these two bodies just rotting beside him. Anyways to the point Benoit was not my favorite wrestler but i deffinately have full respect what he was, and again it blows my mind ANYONE is capable of this and i mean whatever pushed him to do this you would have to feel sorry for him going through it. BUT all these roid rage b****** stories are dumb, its just such an easy road story that these dumb reporters shoot out right away. Something was deffinately happening and it wasnt just benoit eating dinner one night and just snapping because of steroids, thats just dumb

I agree. As horrible and tragic as these events are, I would still like to know what lead up to this and what could have caused a man to murder his own wife and child. He seemed like the perfect family man and i’m still flabbergasted by it all. I would like to know what his mental state was at the time. I hope that it comes out that he was on large doses of the drugs and not that he was just an animal.

But its OK thats what I expect from Christian Lead state, you guys crap perfection, see you guys protesting at the Marliyn Manson Concert next month… (inserting sarcasm) Hail Satan! cause I know ya love it!

I think being judgemental of someone who was loved by his peers, and the greatest in the world at what he did is complete B.S. Whatever Chris Benoit did this weekend has nothing to do with his professional acclompishments. I hope everyone turning on him burns in the hell they think Chris Benoit should be in!
I don’t care about what he did as a wrestler or how good he was. The fact is he KILLER his wife and child. I don’t care if she cheated on him with his father, brother, every other wrestler, I don’t care if he had mental issue either. What he did in his last days overshadows everything else he did in his life, he went out as a murderer. Wake up people.

Surely the wrestling fraternity has lost a great and valuable wrestler. I will surely miss the antics on and outside the ring and his usual trademark before the three-count. We should all remember the family in prayer and should not rush to judge. This is quite a trying time not only for the family and friends but for all his adoring fans worldwide. RIP

Chad, you’re really not this stupid are you? I believe you are just desperate for attention. Hitler and Stalin were loved by their peers. Have you ever even heard of them?

I love how all the inital responses telling the journalist to shut up are riddled with misspellings and grammatical errors. Good job, everyone. Way to show that everybody without an iota of reasoned judgment also types like an illiterate hick. That way, it’s easier to weed you people out.
To everybody who’s ever actually watched a single day of wrestling, or a single conversation with Chris Benoit, I’m certain you feel that there’s almost nobody in the entire industry of whom this could possibly be less characteristic. That’s why I’m withholding judgment. Something destroyed this man in his final days. I don’t apologize for what that was or what he did, but I certainly want to understand how one of most seemingly friendly, humble men in the industry became what he became.

All the stories state that he killed his family and give the gory details of it. No one looks at the fact that he was on steroids and being in a fast paced industry, he may have snapped!!! who knows!!! and I have a challenge, if anyone of you has never ever committed a sin, be the first to judge Benoit. I do not state he did good but instead of throwing the blame on Benoit, pray for both families for strength

And just a handful of years ago people thought rape was a myth, some still do…
Ok, so maybe I have a little more compassion than most think I should in this case.
Chris Benoit was no monster. It appears he did a horrific and unimaginable thing. But he was no psychopath who gets off on the pain of others. He was lost in his own hell and couldn’t find his way out. He was no different than you or I.
You don’t truly know what you’ll do when you’ve finally been broken. When you have gone through so much that you finally snap. You HOPE you are strong enough to climb out of your pit or get help when that time comes, but men with less notoriety than Chris have failed who probably thought that. I understand WWE’s decision to take salable merchandise for Benoit offline, at least for now. WWE shouldn’t be profiting from his death. I don’t believe anyone in that organization with half a heart would even want to. But they started a trend that everyone else is taking to extremes.
I added his theme song to my profile today along with a picture I took of one of his shirts that I wore today in memorial. By the time details of the case were released today whoever posted the song had it deleted and ALL WWE/WWF songs came off of MySpace. Isn’t it bad enough that we’re all grieving and now you must try to remove all trace of Chris from our sight?
Can no one comprehend empathy and mercy for this poor soul? It’s easy to feel bad for his wife and son but he was a victim of his profession and his own hard, but poor choices. I don’t think anyone could hate him more unless he had survived. Would we consider him more the coward if he hadn’t succeeded at suicide?
Can no one see that anyone who commits or honestly tries to commit suicide is suffering beyond reasonable thought? These are people who feel backed in a corner, that there is no way out, no escape from the pain. Benoit may have tried to kill his pain, the very thing he wanted and craved most perhaps was slipping through his fingers and that pain in his lofty but isolated place destroyed the good man his friends and family knew in ways no one wants to comprehend. There is no excuse here for his taking the lives of his family but I can find a feeling of mercy within myself that we as humans generally don’t deserve.
The thought occurs that if any friend had been there Chris could have been saved and so too his family. If a lifeline had been there when he needed it most, we would all be grateful that worse was avoided and that Chris was finally getting the help and support he needed to get better. If he were your loved one would he really be beyond loving even if you were angry or hurt or didn’t understand? That’s what makes it love, that it really hurts when someone you care for disappoints you. If it didn’t it would mean you never gave a crap about the person you claimed to love.
I say he’s human and he lost the ultimate match. Let his legacy in the ring, or what’s left of it, be. Don’t try to erase him from the books. What he did in the ring, what he sacrificed in the ring, what he gave us shouldn’t be trivialized as unimportant. He will always have that. He earned it. Don’t try to take that away from him. He considered wrestling his life, the very definition of his existance. While we may think that view unbalanced, it is what it is. He laid it all out there for us and his life was not trivial, it was amazing, if sad and riddled with heartbreak.
He WAS NOT a sick monster. He was hurting and confused and ultimately alone. I have had my moment to consider letting this life go and with that decision possibly end much more than just my life. Am I a monster or just human, and weak and struggling with unimaginable hurt in my own private hell? Save your “rot in hell” sentiments for real monsters and let us struggling real humans deal with our demons and hey maybe give us a hand once in a while since you’re so perfect and impervious to human weakness and frailty. How can you be so unkind and unperceptive and cold to real suffering.
I’m no angel in this area either. I have work to do on my attitude but if I can find mercy for such as Chris Benoit maybe there is hope for me yet. What about you?

If everyone cared about him so much then someone should have stepped up to the plate and confronted him concerning his steriod abuse and alleged physical abuse issues. If he was a truely courageous, accepting and loving individual then he would not have subjected his son to non prescribed growth hormone drugs. He would just love and accept him. It truly frightens me that so many people are trying to excuse his actions.

Bill,
I like you have been a Wrestling Fan for 40 plus years, and am indeed shocked by the inncident at the Benoit Residence, but I am also at a loss for words.. but would like to suggest that we all take pause and have a Moment of Silence for Nancy and Danial, as well as Chris… this is a Great Tragady and a loss for the Wrestling Industry, But can you imagine the remaining members of the Benoit Family? and the grief they must now endure? None of us was in that house, none of us have any idea exactally what happened, or why… Please everyone be considerate of the remaining Benoit Family Members in the comments you make, they did nothing wrong, and now their lives have been opened to the public as well with this tragady thrust apon them. My Thoughts and Prayers go to the Remaining Family… as it should in this time.

how about this for a setup, not being the highest caliber of celebrity as many have said, he would have no paid protection around his home. Okay, now lets just imagine that there was a group of people that thought they could take advantage of him at a very critical moment, before a pay per view where he was probably going to make a fair amount of money and would dissapoint millions of fans if he missed. So thursday night these men break into his house, and take the family hostage. Demanding money, or the family will pay the consequences. Benoit (tough as nails) refuses and tells them all to go to hell, they begin torturing his wife, threatening him and his son, and eventually kill her either in his presence or not, then show him the body. the same goes for the son, and eventually himself…being in teh house and having them in their control allows them to send any messages they wish and consume their identities to the outside world. Possible? sure…probable? its a bit of a stretch, but after seeing some f*ck3d up stuff in this world im not ruling it out, so until i hear dna evidence, a full description of what happened from the csi team, autopsy reports, and a colonoscopy, i cant be 100% on what happened, and none of you can either. THERES NO GOD, how could there be, you cant prove it? YOUR JUST GOING ON WHAT PEOPLE TELL YOU…defending your beliefs is what makes us human in a sense i guess, if you give up on that then what are you aside from a tool…so kudos to all who have put in their two cents and not elementary garbage…

Benoit was nothing but a narcissistic, maniacal, selfish, evil man. Anyone who can smother a seven year old child of theirs is hopefully right where they belong -in hell. And I won’t even talk about his killing of his wife. Anyone who feels different obviously has never had a child. I wish every man who has this, “if I can’t have her no one will mentality” would start their murder/suicide pledge with the suicide first. I don’t need to reserve judgment and neither should anyone else. He did what he did, and any deed of goodness that preceded his double murders is erased by that.

It is interesting to read the comments of individuals who have never watched professional wrestling. Chris Benoit was a beloved performer. Others of you watch plenty of television. Most of it is fiction. Yet you critique individuals who watch other forms of fiction like wrestling as morons.
People that followed Benoit’s career are in shock. If your favorite movie star suddenly killed their family you would be too. We as a society put too much stock in celebrities and not enough stock in friends and families. Celebrities usually don’t fail us. However, when they do it becomes a voyeuristic media circus. That is evidenced by the fact the Paris Hilton has pushed the Benoit family tragedy off the front page of most newspapers in the country.
Nothing can justify killing another person (well except the war in Iraq, assisted suicide and anything else our grand politicians tell us justifies it). Like fans of anything, fans of Benoit just want to know what was going through his head. Why would someone commit such a heinous act? Before people settle for ad hominem attacks against wrestling fans maybe you should look at yourself and assess the reaction you would have to your favorite celebrity doing the same thing.
Nothing can bring Nancy, Daniel, and Chris back including name calling and speculation. Perhaps we as a society should try to make the best of this tragedy and use it as a wake up call for performers everywhere. Actor, actresses, athletes and yes wrestlers should reassess what they are doing to their minds, bodies and souls. How far should one go to be in the public spotlight? Not all entertainers will end up killing their families but, as we all know, the entertainment field is a cesspool of real life immorality. A tragedy like this is a wake-up call to all of us. We need to change our society so tragedies like this will be less likely to happen again.
