Cross thief hits Georgia Tech

Published on: 01/31/07 04:03 PM

Georgia Tech police are investigating who took down 48 white crosses that were part of a pro-life display on campus this week.

Tech’s College Republicans set up the cross grave markers Monday on a lawn as part of a “Cemetery of the Innocent” display to mark the 34th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion.

Organizers say the crosses represent each of the 48 million unborn babies killed by abortion since 1973 and they put up signs explaining their significance.

The signs and crosses were stolen Tuesday.

College Republicans chairman Ashley Johnson said the organization was “very disappointed” in the theft.

“College Republicans put a tremendous amount of time, money, and energy into this project,” Johnson said in a statement. “We are looking for any clues that would help explain what happened to our display.”

Tech spokesman James Fetig called it a “regrettable incident” and confirmed Wednesday police are investigating.
