Clayton County police identified a teenager found shot to death Monday night as Andrew “Andy” Todd Gibby, 19, of Jonesboro.

Daniel Thomas Smith, 18, of Jonesboro survived being shot in the back and was taken to Southern Regional Medical System. His condition was not immediately known.

The two men were found about 10 p.m. inside a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme in four feet of water in a retention pond behind the Hampton Publix off Tara Boulevard.

Smith was able to tell police what happened but not the identities of the suspects. However, based on descriptions provided by Smith and other witnesses, police are looking for two men, including one wearing a black “hoodie” who fired the shots.

Other witnesses also told police the man wearing the hoodie is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 150 to 160 pounds. The second man is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 pounds and wearing a brown hoodie and black pants or shorts.

Witnesses also reported seeing the man in brown leave in a dark-colored car while the man in black ran away. Maj. Tim Robinson said detectives are following “good leads” on suspects but have not identified any yet. Anyone with information should contact police.
