A suspected bank robber who shot an armored car guard Monday apparently shot himself as officers closed in on him, Henry County police said.
It was the second bank robbery of the afternoon in Henry County, Lt. Jason Bolton said.
Bolton said the guard, Dywane Trigg, 35, of Marietta, was shot in the parking lot of Bank of America on Ga. 138 at North Henry Boulevard in Stockbridge Monday afternoon.
The suspect fled the scene and was discovered by police behind Big Lots, in a shopping center just west of the bank, Bolton said.
Confronted by police, the suspect shot himself and died at the scene, he said.
Monday evening, Henry County police detectives were trying to locate the suspect’s family members to notify them of his death. Until they are able to do so, authorities will not release the man’s name.
Trigg, the guard, was airlifted to a metro area hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
The SunTrust Bank on North Henry Boulevard was robbed just before noon, Bolton said, by a man who handed the teller a note but did not show a weapon.
The two incidents, however, are not related, Bolton said. The descriptions provided by witnesses of the robbers do not match, he said.
