5 cops on leave after bar fight

A total of five DeKalb County police officers have been placed on administrative leave after their involvement in a fight at a DeKalb County bar.

The five officers were identified as M. Kendrick, C. McMillan, P. Maldonado, J. Ferrell and J. Tamarro. They will remain on leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation, a spokesman said. Reports initially said three officers had been placed on leave.

The initial police report about the May 11 incident said the officers, who were off-duty, were apparently trying to break up a fight outside the Famous Pub in the Toco Hill shopping center.

But video shot by a resident shows one officer fighting with the man and others joining in, said Officer Herschel Grangent, a spokesman for the department. The video was turned over to police by a TV reporter.

The unidentified bar patron left by the time other officers arrived to investigate the fight, Grangent said. Police say he has not come forward to seek charges against the officers shown in the video.
