Better traffic on Jimmy Carter Boulevard

If you travel Jimmy Carter Boulevard like me, you become accustomed to the bottleneck that takes place as motorists try to get on northbound I-85.

Not anymore.

Traffic flow has improved greatly, thanks to an additional lane for westbound traffic on JCB that wants to head north on I-85. Chuck Warbington, the executive director of the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District told me he’s heard nothing but positive comments about the $2 million “quick-fix project” since it opened to the public Jan. 12.

“In regards to moving traffic, coupled with the synchronization of the traffic lights, it has reduced traffic (gridlock) 30 to 40 percent, Warbington said. “This is helping traffic on Jimmy Carter Boulevard, Oakbrook Parkway and Indian Trail Road because folks going north on Oakbrook were having to use Indian Trail.”

The Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District, which covers 14 square miles, is a business-supported special taxing district. Its goal is to increase property values, promote businesses and improve the quality of life in southwest Gwinnett.

I haven’t driven down JCB in at least 5 years. It’s kind of scary over there nothing like it used to be. Looks like a 3rd world country. If there were 10 open lanes I don’t think I’d go that way.

Well Nana, maybe you ought to try it again. Things have improved a lot in the last five years. Seems you read the papaer so maybe you have seen the statistics about the drop in crime in the area too. Come on back!

I prefer the Asian experience on Pleasant Hill to the Spanish experience of JCB. I already speak Spanish so now I’m trying to learn Korean/Chinese/Vietnamese/Thai, etc.

Good grief! Do you mean to tell me that somebody in Gwinnett County has figured out that the answer to resolving gridlock is to not add another traffic light?!?!

Martha, get out the blankets and the longjohns. Hell is freezing over!

JCB is nothing but a filthy stretch of road laden with filthy mexicans. And soon, every Gwinnett county road will resemble it.

Not sure I’d go that far mark and I seriously doubt that “soon every Gwinnett county road will resemble it” either.

I think one thing that is missing from this story is that our county, state and federal governments have so dropped the ball on our infrastructure, that private citizens are now financing road improvements out of the their own pockets. When groups of businesses have to band together and pay for road improvements, you have to ask, where is the DOT and what the heck are they doing with all of our tax dollars?

We have been screaming for traffic relief, retiming of traffic lights, better designed intersections and interstate ramps for years now, with zero action from the DOT.

My hat’s off to the Gwinnett Village CID. They have done an awesome job of increasing law enforcement in the area, beautification (the on-ramps landscaping is beautiful) and traffic improvements. They have done more for this area in the past two years than our county commissioners and Dept. of Transportation have done in the past 20 years. Keep up the good work!

Wow, they are finaly figuring out how to synchronize traffic lights here? Welcome to 30 years ago. I bet they probably had to hire outside help to do it for them once they finaly figured out that praying for the traffic lights to fix themselves doesn’t work.

Rick,

I think you could write an article about a squirrel on a pair of skis, in a sewer lagoon, and these guys would blog about the same old stuff …

It’s tiring to hear the same junk, from the same people over and over again.

T,

If Badie wrote an article about a squirrel on skis, I would suspect that he was plagerizing due to the quantity of journalistic content to the article.

Do you remember Blubbering Badie’s moronic Human Trumpet articles?

Even Woody beat him to the important story regarding the 287g program in Gwinnett.

And while that goes on, all Blubbering Badie can write about is a new turn lane on Jimmy Carter.

And they wonder why the AJC is losing a million dollars a day.

Based on the comments here I’d think this crowd prefers bad news to good news. Badie tries to keep a positive spin on his column. Nothing wrong with that. Nobody wants to talk about the expensive snafu that turned HWY 316 into a traffic nightmare. In their zeal to relief traffic on I-85, they diverted the flow onto HWY 316 without any lane expansion. Doh! I wonder how many accidents it will take before that gets fixed.

The only thing that qualifies as news to LT is illegal immigration. Anything else, good or bad, is just blubber.

LT should be made head publisher of the AJC. He could save a million dollars a day by simply reprinting Mein Kampf in one batch and calling it news. No overhead, no annoying employees, just a printing press that starts up when his klan group recruits a new member.

Zieg heil, you hateful, pathetic waste of flesh. I canceled your lobotomy appointment. You have no brain to lobotomize.

Bush was reading “Mein Pet Kampf” to those elementary kids on 911, you know.
