Talkin’ trash in Gwinnett

Sometimes, it’s simply best to leave things be.

I say this as the Gwinnett garbage fight heads to court.

Representatives for Waste Pro - one of two companies that had been granted exclusive rights to pick up and haul garbage in the county - are scheduled to appear in Gwinnett County Superior Court today to argue that it did not violate a judge’s ruling by soliciting business.

Their appearance is due to a suit filed by Robertson/Allied Sanitation, which operates in Gwinnett. The suit charges that Waste Pro has continued to solicit business despite a ruling by Superior Court Judge Michael Clark. He put the brakes on the county’s new waste collection plan, saying it violated state law by delegating governmental functions to a private entity - Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Services. (That agreement has since been dissolved.)

The county had to resort back to letting any licensed hauler do business in Gwinnett till a waste removal plan is worked out that’s bullet proof from legal challenges while still true to the mission of making Gwinnett cleaner and more beautiful.

Stay tuned.

This trash deal was a scam to begin with. We had trash service with Waste Pro (prior to the scam) and were charged $45.51 per quarter. After the scam we were assigned Waste Pro at a charge of $61.35 per quarter. Why would our service price increase when Waste Pro had more customers? No one at Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful could tell more nor any of the commissioners. I contacted all of them and those that did respond to my questions avoided that question. Ms. Green insinuated that I was lying about the bill being less. After the scam was halted I called Waste Pro to see if our bill was going to go back to the $45.5.1 It was going to be the $61.35. Needless to say we dropped them and went with Southern Sanitation. They charged more than the $45.51 but less than the $61.35. It was the principle at that point. Our Waste Pro trash bin is still here waiting for them to pick it up. We would have stayed with Waste Pro if they had done the right thing. They were going to use the government to raise their prices even after the scam was halted. Not a good way to keep customers regardless of their great service. So far so good with Southern Sanitation and at least they had the guts to fight this scam.

By God is watching us.

We had Waste Pro before at a cheaper rate also. Now, we still have Waste Pro, but they had to be forced to pick up our trash this week. Actually came by after 6pm. We have paid for the next three months but plan to change after that. There is no excuse for this, especially since we were their customers before all this mess started.

Wow. I guess since there is so little going on in Gwinnett Blubbering Badie had to follow in Blubbering Bass’s footsteps and write the same stupid article.

Badie, are you that devoid of ideas that you have to follow Woody’s lead? It must be miserable to live without an imagination.

Wake up AJC, morons like Badie and Bass are the reason your circulation is plummeting.

After this on going fiasco: Anyone for mounting a commissioner recall vote?

Let me know when the petition is issued, I’ll gladly sign.

I thought I didn’t really have a dog in this hunt. Before the dust settles on this boondoggle I and others whom where once uninvolved like me, may end up being forced to pay for a kennel of litigation.

I mean, like we have money to spend on this garbage?

This is lose-lose government waste, plain and simple.

What’s the point? What’s wrong with the garbage collection the way it is now?

Nothing’s wrong, Steve. That’s the point. The BoC thought there was. And, like governments on any level these days, they came to this conclusion without talking to the people that voted them.

Perhaps they came up with the idea during a luxurious “retreat.” Perhaps one of the commishes said, “Hey y’all, I got friends at Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful, y’all mind if I let them get in on this?

Forget the recall, I say. Break out the tar and feathers.

Maybe they were all ‘shrooming with LT5000.

A very valid point has been raised by a credible source that challenges previous claims made by the County.

Is some benevolent trash collector moonlighting, absconding 450 tons of trash from county streets unawares every week or is Mr. Bannister standing out on a limb with his saw in hand?

“Twenty thousand homes without trash service would amount approximately to 450 tons of trash piled up across Gwinnett each week,” Perko said. “We drive the streets every day and we don’t see that.”

450 tons of garbage isn’t that much. I can get that much in my trash compactor before it jams. When I finally throw it out, it’s so dense that it bends light, man.

Quantum Trash happens in a flash.
