Gwinnett to Hartsfield — Will it fly?

All it takes is one good idea to hit pay dirt.

Wings Air, the Lawrenceville-based company that’s set to launch flights from Gwinnett’s local airport to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, may have one. For a flat rate of $79, a person can catch a one-way flight from the Gwinnett airport to the Atlanta one.

Wings Air President Charlie Mintz has said the service will appeal to businessmen and women who can afford the fee and dislike sitting in metro Atlanta’s maddening, unpredictable traffic.

But you know, I suspect there are plenty of everyday folk who would have no problem shelling out cash for a 15-minute ride to the airport, especially if Wings Air is able to arrange for security check points at the local airport. The company is working with the Transportation Security Administration on that.

The air shuttle service, which debuts with four flights daily, starts Feb. 1.

What do you think of this idea?

Blubbering Badie strikes again.

Absolutely nothing else to write about in Gwinnett.

Except for the fast track deportations at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

Or the rash of Illegal Immigrant crime that has struck Gwinnett.

According to the Sheriff 60% of foreign born inmates are here illegally.

I guess to a journalist of Badie’s caliber, this just isn’t news.

Works for me, I pay more than that for a car service. Now if they could land at the train station, it would be a great deal. Take Amtrak and see the country.

It would be a great idea if it offered direct one way flights from the Gwinnett County jail to Chiapas, Mexico.

Family discount plans should be offered for humanitarian reasons of course. Don’t want to be “falsely accused” of splitting up families.

I guess it’s OK, if Mr. Mintz promises not to ask the government for a bail out in a year when the business fails.

So you typed “POS”? Wow, what an incredibly intelligent remark! :/

We don’t need illegal-immigrant criminals here. Honest, nice people, willing to abide by US laws and customs? Yes. Please keep your comments to yourself, Senor Negativo, aka “SiSePuede” (usted no puede).

I don’t know, $79 to Hartsfield… the time for going to the Gwinnett airport, then boarding, then flying, then into Hartsfield, takes more time than for me to just drive down there!

Oh well…

I didn’t type POS but out of curiosity and being nosy, what part of illegal means law abiding?

Or did I misunderstand the possible implication in the use of the term “illegal immigrant criminals”?

This might work for some who live fairly close to the Gwinnett Airport or those who live further out. By the time we could get to the Gwinnett Airport we could be halfway to Hartsfield. I agree with Mr. Smith on the Mexico flights. I would probably even support a temporary tax (if there is such a thing) to collect the money to get it done.

I’d even support a “Special Earmark” to fund those flights or any other flights necessary to send “any illegal alien” back home, nana.

¡Con No Problemo!

In direct answer to the blog question: I don’t think these flights will be big a money maker.

I am very doubtful this will last. I will be curious to see the actual number of people on the 4-flights a day.

I live in Hall County and frequently travel to the airport. It’s a straight shot for me and takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour and 15 minutes, to get there depending on traffic.

I live about 20 minutes from the Lawrenceville airport. By the time I drive there (at least 30-minutes before the flight leaves), board a plane, get to the Atlanta airport, get off at whatever terminal they are landing at, go to the area of my flight and wait again. I’d say that would be at least a 2-hour ordeal.

Even if you live 5-minutes away from the Lawrenceville airport it will still be time consuming.

My prediction … FAILURE!

Hi Michael I meant the “POS” by the previous poster with the “Yes We Can” (SiSePuede) ‘name.’

Si se puede salir estados unidos. ;)

The attention w******* in the media have a hell of a lot of nerve defending the illegral immigrant criminals in jail/prison and hopefully on their way out.

Defending people who would just assume kill you, rob you, and rape your family is beyond ignorance.

Here’s another topic Blubbering Badie won’t touch with a 10ft pole, even if they offer a free Denny’s Grandslam breakfast with it.

LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County officials are applying to expand their authority to check immigration status before giving public benefits, at a time when legislators could yank state funding for those failing to live up to a nearly three-year-old state law.

Officials announced last year they would check immigration status of those applying for occupation tax certificates, also known as business licenses. Despite checking compliance since September, officials just approved applying for a new memorandum of understanding with the federal Department of Homeland Security last week to allow for the extension of the SAVE program.

If people want the real Gwinnett news, I suggest the Gwinnett Daily Post. More accurate and reliable than the soon to be defunct AJC.

Certainly we can’t rely on Blubbering Badie to act like a real journalist.

I feel the media is not alone Mary’s Mom in the misappropriate use of never when it comes to defending any illegal aliens. The double negative term of “illegal immigrant criminals” is often used as an attempt to make illegal immigrants something less than criminal.

As I asked: What part of illegal means law abiding?

Many people try to justify illegal immigration by saying things like, they didn’t kill anybody, they didn’t rob anybody, they are just hard working people that want to feed their families.

Hooey.

It is very hard to fathom how any illegal alien hasn’t robbed somebody.

Anyhow, I wish Wings Air the best of luck in this shuttle venture. They’ll probably need it and more.

So - you can get from Lawrenceville to Hartsfield one-way for $79, board your plane at Hartsfield, go on your trip, fly back to Hartsfield —- hmmmm —- so what then?? You have no car at Hartsfield to drive home and no flight offered back to Lawrenceville. That cab drive home will be a killer unless you want to take Marta. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Sure. Why not? But, I’d have more faith in this thing if it didn’t carry the name of an old sitcom.

One good thing did come out of Wings, though … Thomas Haden Church is a fine actor. And, Crystal Bernard was not bad to look at in those days.

ra, think about it, they have to get them back to Lawrenceville, the only problem is booking flights to meet their scheduule.

Mort Merkel,I agree, Crystal Bernard was not bad to look at in those days.

Rick, a 15 mimute ride to the airport, what time do you go 2 a.m.? I take a car service when we go on vacations, my wife packs enough for several months, from the minute they pull in the driveway I don’t touch a piece of luggage. Instead of the hassle of driving, paying to park my car for a month and lugging all the bags around it’s well worth the money.

By BW

January 14, 2009 1:25 PM | Link to this

Now to the other subject, the one I didn’t notice in Rick’s orginal, I guess reading between the lines is fact.

It dawned on me the other day when all the fan fair was going on, something our sheriff’s PR man is good at. What happens to the citizens of the United States, you can’t deport a citizen now can you? Now how many illegals have children who are citizens of the United States?

Like in years before every new wave of immgrants protected one another, something we lost years ago. I know, what mother would leave her child, many I would guess with legal relatives, until they could sneak back and as we know it’s not very hard.

Now the kicker, the child being a citizen of the United States is entitled to all the welfare and schooling that the United States provides. And remember many of these illegal children have reached the age of eighteen by now and no one can touch them.

They tried to keep the Irish out, the Italians out, the Jews out and on it goes, let me knoe when you win.

There is a lot of difference between the illegal immigrants of today and the last 10-15 years and the ones BW is talking about. So many differences I don’t have the time (or the desire) to list them.

By BW

Whats the difference?

By Michael H. Smith

January 14, 2009 2:33 PM | Link to this

Now that we got off the other subject of Amtrak that didn’t appear in Rick’s blog let me know when rapid rail wins. Millions of Chinese were brought into this country illegally to build the railroads dirt cheap, or as our Governor would say, “take advantage of low construction costs”, later to be excluded and treated worse than dogs, living as Paper Sons.

By now you would think everybody should know illegal immigration never works out very well in this country for anybody, as though the lessons of African slaves wasn’t enough to prevent an Asian indenturing. Even when too large of numbers like the Irish that came legally, domestic tranquility is disturb in violation of the Constitution because America was never able to accept or meant to accept, an unruly rapid change that does not conform to ours laws, the national identity, culture, language and customs, and it never will.

There were no winners then and there will be no winners now. The masters of commerce will gain in some degree and America will pay the awful costs, as the nation yet tries to correct another preventable wrong.

Nana,

The difference is that 15 years ago BW had to cruise for several hours before he could find a young illegal Mexican boy to take advantage of.

Now he just has to hit Jimmy Carter Blvd for about 1 minute till he gets his daily ration of Illegal Mexican Chorizo.

MHS, the subject of Amtrak should be rather easy to figure out, if they can fly to the airport it would be nice to also be able to fly to the Amtrak station. The plug for Amtrak was far off the subject, just a tree-huggers attempt to inform people it’s a nicer way to travel if you have the time and it uses far, far less fuel.

I do apologize for detroying the thread, how inconsiderate of me.

LT it’s always nice to see you comment, it proves Gwinnett hasn’t lost it’s Village Idiot, you wear the dunce cap well LT.

BW the subject of direct deportation flights to Mexico from the County jail should be rather easy to figure out, if they can fly to Atlanta they can fly to Chiapas and save taxpayer’s time and money: Just a conservative illegal immigration abolitionist’s attempt at ridding a broken government of waste, fraud and abuse to serve the greater good of government efficiency.

Leave no sorrows for polishing any facet of a stone from which the brilliance of fractured light may be shown.

PS. I’m sure this is plagiary though forgive my inadequacies to properly accredit whomever I’ve plagiarized.

Build Amtrak into maglift train system and I might ride the dang thing myself.

First BW (aka Brucie the Dumbass) whines on and on about the Gwinnett Stadium, now he wants to build an Amtrak station.

I’m pretty sure that would be a lot more expensive than an stadium. But Brucie has heard that the bathroom stalls are good for “cruising”, which is why he probably the only reason he supports it.

The company won’t make enough money to stay in business for long, especially once gas prices rise again in the summer.

One more thing about the air travel to Hartsfield: There’s too much left to chance.

Having to depend on another flight to get you to your “real” flight just adds to the complications and increases your chance to miss your flight at Hartsfield!

I don’t leave expensive flights to chance. If I drive to Hartsfield (and leave early enough), at least I know for SURE I’ll get there and not miss my flight. The way things are today with ridiculous security and wait times at Hartsfield I’d rather not take any chances.

A shuttle service or etc. would be better.
