Joe the Plumber stars in TV debate

Let’s forget about Joe the Plumber, the representative for hard-working, upwardly mobile American who was channeled numerous times during the televised debate between Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain.

Let’s focus on the candidates themselves.

If you tuned in, which candidate did the better job?

Did the debates influence your vote?

Why?

Obama won. McBush came across as usual, a very grumpy old man, but then he is.

The debates only effect those who never pay attention to politic’s, sadly it is the majority of our citizens.

And McBush’s reference to “Joe the plumber” went down the drain.

Why should I forget about Joe the Plumber Mr. Badie?

It is what Joe the Plumber represents that has been ignored for far too despicably long in this country. Joe the Plumber is the very Mr. Middle Class America that both these two candidates now fawn over. Neither candidate has done a better job and I don’t give a rats rump if both of them lost, were that possible. America and U.S. Citizens must win.

Absolutley, I agree with BW. Obama is one cool cat. He addressed the issues and holds the demeanor, posture, and mannerisms of The President of the US McCain came across as arrogant and desperate and I wasn’t sure if he was going to stroke out or what. The debate most definitely influenced my original vote which was and will always be for OBAMA, which by the way, is not because he is Black, but because he is the best candidate for the job.

America and U.S. Citizens must win?

What is that?!? That is not the dumbest thing I’ve ever read on this blog only because LT posts his opinions from time to time, but it is close.

How can your only commitment be to “none of the above”? Have you had your head in the sand the last 2 years?

Come on. At least select Nader or Barr. Choosing nobody means you prefer for the country to wander aimlessly for the next 4 years. Which means you support 4 more years for W, I guess.

Rick, do you even have an opinion? Did you watch the debate? Ironic that the only blog with the title ‘My Opinion’ is the written by a person that has no opinion.

You throw half hearted prompts on the blog and make no effort to facilitate discussions. Admit that you are not interested in this type of medium and give up the blog. I’m sure that there are many people at the AJC that would love to have a blog and would do it well.

Obamambi got his clock cleaned last night, and had to resort to lying numerous times. Ayers, school vouchers, his abortion votes……….

Of course, the mainstream media, 90+ % liberals , will never tell you about Obama’s prevarications.

Neither will Blubbering Badie, who would love to pretend Joe the Plumber doesn’t exist, because he got Obama to admit his Marxist feelings of “redistribution of wealth”.

Yes, I know we should all be surprised the Obama the Muslim is Anti-American. Much like our Fat Friend, Blubbering Badie.

Other than a typical dumb personal attack convince me that either of these two candidates McCain or Obama will do any better than W? Both are committed in carbon copy to the Bush immigration policies that adversely affect U.S. Citizens and America.

If America and U.S. Citizens don’t win first and foremost, then exactly who do you believe should win, Mexico, China or India?

The egos of McCain or Obama, that of the Democrats or the Republicans should win - RAH party to hell with America?

I do intend to vote, just not for either McCain, Obama, Nader or Bob Barr, and certainly not Cynthia. McKinney.

Your last post reads like you are speaking in tongues.

I guess you consider immigration to be the most important issue in the campaign? If that is the case I would agree that neither McCain nor Obama appear to offer revolutionary policies or proposals on the issue and I can’t say that I’m familiar with the policies of the other candidates.

But is that it? If none of the candidates address your immigration concerns then the heck with their position on other issues?

The economy? Tax policy? Healthcare? Roe v. Wade? Who is going to win the Super Bowl? Nothing?

I think that Joe the Plumber is important as he represents the majority of Americans. I think that McCain won the debate but Obama didn’t really have to do anything fabulous to do okay. McCain should have come out like this in the first and second debate. Obama is probably going to win although I’m leaning towards McCain simply because I don’t think anyone should work their buttss off and then the government decides who gets the benefit of that person working their butt off. It’s redistribution of wealth and does nothing to encourage anyone (people sitting on their butts or those working their butts off) to do good. I disagree with building the economy from the ground up, I have never gone to a poor person for a job.

By Michael H. Smith

October 16, 2008 5:44 PM | Link to this

Obviously not, you made sense out of it. Of course not without inserting another pathetic personal attack.

The economy?

Immigration is just as important as trade policies in determining the health of U.S. economy and in creating foreign debt. Unfortunately Mr. Obama does not understand that or chooses a preference in how he replaces the American worker.

Oh but he has already made that preference know by his elitist statement that he now calls bonehead - which I call bigoted and anti-American - about people that live in small towns who cling to their guns, their God and have antipathy for those who Mr. Obama believes should replace U.S. Citizens in the workforce of this country. Guess that it is mostly those people who will not be voting for Mr. Obama.

Mr. Obama is wrong on the economy because he is wrong on energy, wrong taxes, wrong healthcare, wrong on economic recovery and he is wrong on Roe v. Wade.

Mr. McCain is wrong to a lesser extent on these issues, thought, equally as wrong on immigration and foreign trade.

Go Sam go!

I personally believe Obama came out ahead. But I think Joe the Plumber is not getting enough attention. He’s basically middle class America and neither candidate is doing anything for him. The conservatives what to practice trickle down economics which has proven to be a huge failure and Obama has promise for the low income taxpayer. Middle America is stuck with a 700billion dollar wall street bill.

Mea Culpa. Mea Culpa. I was not aware that Middle Class in America now earn $250,000. Obviously, some of you were not listening to the arguments intently. JOE the plumber makes over $200,000 a year. He now makes enough money to BUY OUT the company, hence, JOE the plumber goes from blue collar worker to ENTREPENEUR AKA BUSINESS OWNER. Healthcare for his employees will not be affected, so JOE the plumber will be okay. Neither Obama nor McCain have an easy burden to bear. In order to get this country out of the current trillion dollar deficit the funds must come from somewhere. Obama has a plan that while not appealing to everyone, makes sense. Where is the sense or feasibility in McCains plan? Just another bunch of baseless promises and lies lies lies. This is exactly why we are in the predicament that we are in now. Unfortunately, because OBAMA is black, a few of you can’t see the forest because of the trees. So so sad indeed.

So, no one sees a problem with voting for a socialist? “Redistribution of wealth” = socialism. Also, in the two+ years Obama has been in office, not one of his “great plans” was EVER written as a piece of legislation. I think it takes a pompous a$$ to say, “I am the holy one who will determine who is rich and therefore should be required by law to pay more in taxes. It’s not enough that you already pay 50% of your income in taxes, you need to pay 55-60%.” No country has ever taxed it’s way to prosperity.

I’m curious for you to explain how immigration is just as important as trade policies in creating foreign debt. It sounds like you are practicing some of that voodoo/LT economics. I guess I am like Obama in that I don’t understand it either.

It is good to see you come out for McCain. Nothing wrong with having an opinion and expressing it.

BTW, the average tax cut difference for middle America is $231/month for Obama, and $190/month for McCain. Yep, Obama’s great plan nets you an extra $41. Apparently all it takes is $41 to buy a vote. That will pull those middle class folks right into prosperity. Also, the Bush tax law doesn’t expire until 2012. So, in FOUR years you can get your $41, IF Obama’s tax law is passed.

Try reading again. Your eyes are the joke.

Mr. McCain is wrong to a lesser extent on these issues, though, equally as wrong on immigration and foreign trade.

Sounds far from a ringing endorsement of any kind for the McCain/Palin ticket.

Obama’s economic policies or economic propaganda on tax the rich and business is not sensible policy.

Poor people don’t not create jobs and businesses don’t pay taxes, they pass them along to the consumers. People that create the jobs in this country will cash in their chips and close their doors before they pay the government 38% of their money. Which will impact low income earners and the middle class in this country very negatively.

McCain’s error is in supporting how the Bush tax cuts are structured. Idle money like idle hands should not be reward with tax breaks. Give earned tax credits and capital gains tax cuts to companies and investors who create jobs solely for U.S. Citizens (hopefully in the energy sector). Keep American money in the hands of Americans here at home working for the American people and working here in the American economy.

By Michael H. Smith

Don’t spend the $41 middle America that you get from Obama. You will need it when these rich people that gave you a job close the door on their business because Obama taxes them at 38%. Which means they will not be able to compete in the global economy against foreign competitors that do not pay such high corporate taxes and capital gains taxes.

I would like to know what the true figure for the high income earners are from Obama. At first it was $1 million, then it was $250k, now I’ve heard $200k. That is not middle income but it’s still will trickle down to middle and low income when he taxes the heck out of these wage earners. They no longer can afford to do good in America. Also, now….me, I thought Obama was half-white? My grandchildren are biracial (half black/half white) and neither side of the family refer to them as being black or white. Is it more convenient for him to be black. Just asking.

One could argue that Belgium has taxed it’s way to prosperity. Look it up.

As far as Joe the Plumber is concerned:

  • Sam Wurzelbacher (no relation to Robert Wurzelbacher, son-in-law of Charles Keating(5)) is not a licensed plumber.

  • Sam questioned Obama at an event about how Obama’s tax policy would impact him given that he was going to buy his boss’ business and that business earned $280,000 per year.

  • Sam’s boss’ business had gross sales/receipts of only about $100,000 last year.

  • Even if Sam’s boss’ business had gross sales/receipts of more than $250,000, it is overwhelmingly likely that standard business tax deductions like payroll, auto leases, employee benefits, etc.. would make the owner’s take home income much less than the $250,000 cut-off.

  • Sam hadn’t paid more than $1000 of his personal income taxes, so he probably shouldn’t have to worry about how Obama’s tax plan would impact him since he doesn’t seem to pay taxes anyway.

  • So if Joe the Plumber represents the majority of Americans that means we’re a bunch of tax cheats who lie about our income.

Nana That’s an awesome question! I’ve been asking the same question all along :} Apparently, the Powers that be who run this country, along with all the racist, prejudiced, bigots of society, have decided that if you have an ounce of black blood in you, you are automatically classified as black. That’s because the white anglo saxon community don’t believe in race mixing or half breeds even though they are the ones that invented it. So, all questionnaires, census data, prison demographics, in fact ANY type of collective data given regarding race, includes not only all bi racial but quarter racial and one third racial as well. This way it makes it easier and more convenient to keep all the negative statistics higher for the blacks. I really love your question! Obamas mother has milky white skin yet, I have never heard him referred to as a white man. Kind of makes you wonder doesn’t it?

Oh and Michael don’t play yourself. You started out as Mr. Liberal, Mr. Sitting on the Fence, and then you fell over the fence and into the McCain pasture, and then when I called you on it, you tried to get back on the fence. Now…me, that’s ridiculous. Not you but the consensus. How many people walking around could have one ounce of black in them? My grandchildren are bi-racial period. They are not black, they are not white. I just wish that Obama would vocalize that he is half-white/half-black, or bi-racial, not black. From what I understand he was raised by his white grandparents. I guess only time will tell what my grandchildren consider themselves as they get older but from both sides of their families they are bi-racial and we make them proud of both their black heritage and their white heritage.

    I looked it up….

    From The Independent, London.

The regional government of Flanders has already won far-reaching autonomy within the Belgian federal system, and wants to win authority over tax and social security from the central state. The Flemish leaders complain that Flanders, a relatively prosperous region of Belgium, is currently having to dish out vast sums to help pay the social security bills of the more impoverished French-speakers in southern Wallonia, where unemployment is as high as 20 per cent in some areas. If it were not for the problems of Wallonia, Belgium would have no problem meeting the Maastricht criteria for monetary union, say the Flemish. In Italy, the Northern League has been calling for a regionally-based tax system so that money earned in the north is not syphoned off by the “thieves in Rome” and redistributed to a centre and south that the League’s exponents consider to be irretrievably backward and corrupt. The reason why taxes have become an issue is partly that the Basque country, Flanders and northern Italy are all wealthier regions than average for their states. Taxation has historically aimed at redistribution of income to the lower-paid but also to the poorer areas, in part to assure the very state cohesion which is questioned by the separatists and by advocates of greater autonomy. In Belgium, opponents of decentralisation argue that granting Flanders autonomy over tax and social security would hit at the heart of the state, increasing the possibility that Belgium itself might one day break up. Yet that - for the more radically minded Flemish separatists - is precisely the point.

    Crystal,

When looking up facts it is best to avoid editorials from newspapers. They can often be the writer’s spin on data taken out of context. You might also want to find something more current than 1997. Back in 1997 we didn’t even know for sure that George Bush was a horse’s a* yet.

If you want to verify whether or not Belgium has a high income tax rate along with a high standard of living (and it does), check out the US State Department’s web site.

Oh Puhlease! I have never played liberal. I’m conservative openly and admittedly. Populous not “socialist or monopolist”, which puts me at times between the political extremes of the Democrats and the Republicans. No fence setting on my part at all. I don’t owe my vote to anyone just because you think I do or because only one of these two, I really disagree with, are the only two that have a real shot at being the President. McCain was DOA with me, Obama had his shot but proved he is not American enough for me.

I will vote for a conservative of populist progressive views closest to those held by Teddy Roosevelt not a liberal who holds views closer to those of Teddy Kennedy or a so-called conservative Maverick who does not live up to or hold true the views of his claimed mentor.

    Rick,

I watched the all the debates and I have been following this election pretty closely. What I’ve been surprised by is McCain’s strategy during the general election. I expected him to focus on independents and Reagan Democrats and instead it seems like he has tried to cater to conservatives. That strategy hasn’t been working and I think it is too late for him. I think Obama is winning the swing voters.

Mike wants more scrutiny on Joe the plumber than the O man has received There are a couple of underlying themes the whole plumber thing reveals, unfortunately mccain didn’t point them out. One if you give Joe a tax break he hires someone, resulting in not only spreading the wealth but increasing wealth through services provided (not to mention wealth earned is more appreciated than wealth given) Essentially democratic econ principles are about dividing the pie. Conservative principles are about making the pie bigger Lastly the Joe the plumber incident shines a bright light on the fact Obamas slick articulation, and he is very smooth, allows him to hide his real agenda very well.
For me I would rather partake of a bigger pie than share the small one

Surprise Mike. You could very well have had a non-license plumber like Sam (Joe’s actual name) or “correctly speaking” a plumber’s apprentice working on the pipes in your house. As long as they are working under a licensed plumber it is legit. By the way, putting union in front of the word apprentice means very little. Apprenticeships served under the instruction and guidance of skilled craftsmen or journeymen existed long before unions. How else do you think unions gathered members if journeymen did not pre-exist to establish an organized collective bargaining body?

Sam the hopeful plumber as it appears is a single father from what I’ve read. He is behind payment on his state taxes. More than likely because he is working as contract labor. This only makes me admire the guy all the more. He is taking responsibility, not cheating on taxes by evading them or turning his back on his child.

Funny, how when an American aspires to have the better life, there is always an American or so-called, ready to kick him down but let an illegal alien unauthorized unlicensed to work anywhere in this country aspire for a better life, that same American or so called, willing embraces the illegal alien with oh such comforting compassion to declare the illegal alien just wants to feed his family and have a better life?

Time to rear my ugly head.

Have any of you minorities like NOWICUNVME, Rick Badie or ANY of you ever considered the term “lesser of two evils”?

Trust me, your candidate, Obama, is going to be the next Jimmy Carter. Four years tops will be his term before this country removes him for another one. The reason? He’s never managed anything but asense of self-entitlement. We all know how the carter administration failed miserably, Obama will likely be less effective than JIMMY FRIGGIN CARTER.

You want to talk ‘change’? That’s no kind of change. A change for the worse isn’t one me and my family are going for. (And yes, all 20 of us are going to the middle school to vote for the first time ever) and I know many other white and asian families see it the same. I know kids that just turned 18 and are coming to the polls to vote McCain. You Minorities (and that’s what you are- the smaller portion of us) are usually too stupid to realize you’re not the bosses here. Majority rules. Majority is white. Sorry if some of you see it as Racist. I’ll call it realist, and most whites will too.

That being said, do you want to know some of the effects of your actions? Please allow me to tell you what I plan on doing should your candidate win:

1: I will refuse to hire or help ANY black or mexican period. No handouts, no consideration over the phone, no respect, no breaks. NO hello, no thank you and certainly no civility. I will not shop at stores manned or owned by them, I will not contribute anything to the enemy, because that’s what blacks will have done: Make ENEMIES out of half the whites in america.

2: I will be claiming disability AND applying for welfare, and don’t think I won’t get it. I will. It’s time the blacks fed the whites for once. I think this might actually be enjoyable.

3: I will be withdrawing all my money and putting it in a safe so that blacks cannot leech off it, and so I do not have to do business with any bank who employs a black.

4: I will refuse to acknowledge any black I see as a person. I will refer to it as “hey you” or “Hey boy”. I will be uncaring and cold shouldered at all times to blacks. I will insult their children and refuse to even tolerate their presence. If one walks into my work, I will tell him to leave, call the police and have him removed from my office. (I reserve the right by law, look it up). I will not sit by a table of them in a restaurant, I will not tip any restaurant who hires one and I will refuse to be tended by a black waiter. Blacks who show up at my door selling papers or cleaning solution will be charged with tresspass. I will shut doors on them instead of hold it open. I will do anything I can to scocially alienate the scum.

5: I will encourage anyone else who is angry about it to act against minorities in a similar fashion. And trust me, there’s plenty to go around. As I said before, you minorities are just that; and whites outnumber you almost two to one.

Let’s see what kind of a country it is when a black president earns the hatred of most the population. And trust me, that’s what will happen. Obama talks about equality and change…yet has taken this country back five steps in civil rights to a level of dissent not seen since the 60’s. You will start seeing a reemergence of groups like the aryan front, the kkk and the black panthers. The same kind of people who shot martin luther king will be the same people you will deal with.

Hope you blacks are happy with yourselves. I guess you will just chalk it up to righteousness as usual, even though Obama isnt black, you will say he is and dance with your 40’s in the streets. And you will reap what you sow: another age of hatred, division and resentment by people more powerful than you. Choose your battles wisely blacks, you might just be buying yourselves a world of hurt with your mob mentality.

Whites- don’t even come here and denounce me. You know damn good and well you’re thinking along those lines, too.

My bad? I didn’t even look at the date, duh. It was late and most of the articles I purused about the turmoil going on in the Belgian government since their last election where mostly current and I didn’t pay attention to that one.

The pig is the white who would lay with a black. Perhaps one of them is too ugly for their own race?

Allow me to clarify. I did not mean to personally refer to your grandchildren, I was speaking hypothetically. I did not realise your grandchildren were actually midgets. Therefore I will forgive you for referring to me as an idiot. I like little people, I wouldn’t purposely insult them. To make my example, I was going to use either that or dyslexia, so if now you tell me they are also dyslexic, I guess I will have to put my foot in my mouth again.

My point is, we are what we are. We can’t choose how we classify ourselves in certain situations. I suggest you just be proud of your little people, accept them for who they are, and once they realize they can’t change certain things they will also be happy with themselves.

Clarification you have a good sense of humor. :_

btw, I don’t think you meant any harm…was just pointing out how it could be interpreted.

Mark I feel your need for some attention, so here you go you ignorant childish imbecile. Being biracial means you’re exotic. You have your forefathers and foremothers to thank. You better recognize boy that it was the white slave masters and the slave masters women that couldn’t resist the temptation of the beautiful dark meat. Still till this day cannot resist. Let’s see…Heidi Klum, Mrs. Tiger Woods, Halle Berry, Nicole Brown Simpson (may she rest in peace) Madonna, Eva Longoria etc. etc. etc. don’t exactly appear to me to be the epitome of ugliness do they?? Well of course not! You on the other hand, we already know to be hideously revolting on the inside and I’m willing to bet my pet bulldog wouldn’t mount you from the front or the back. You need to apologize to Nana for those hateful remarks and drag your tired lame behind to church on Sunday and repent your soul for forgiveness. Maybe you can see if they have time for an exorcism as well.

You know daggone well you would not run your dirty filty disgusting mouth face to face to a black man! Why would you even put yourself out there like that?
