Police with criminal records patrol Atlanta’s streets

You may have read the story about Atlanta police recruits. More than a third of the city’s recent academy graduates has been arrested or cited for a crime, according to an article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The arrests ranged from minor offenses to violent charges like assault. Hiring the offenders to serve as cops is a concession authorities say they’ve had to make to grow the force.

The Gwinnett police department doesn’t hire recruits with felony convictions, but they consider individuals with misdemeanor arrests on a case-by-case basis.

Should a blemished record, depending on the nature of the offense, keep someone from wearing a law enforcement badge?

This is not surprising considering the area. There’s a few things that are just a given here in Georgia. Criminal police, and a serious lack of intelligence and common sense. Ironic how everyone is also so religious isn’t it? Once you realize everyone here is like cattle, you can adjust and learn how to deal with Southern living. Mooooooooooooo.

Illegals with criminal records patrol Gwinnett streets.

By the way, any demographics on those police recruits?

Here’s the forces breakdown:

*African-American/Black: 57% White: 41% Hispanic: 1% Asian: 1% *

This is not surprising considering they’re people. I guess only dumb Georgia cattle make mistakes.

“Arrested” and convicted are two different things Mr. Badie. I read that Atlanta, just like Gwinnett, doesn’t hire folks with felonies on their record either. So what’s the point of bringing that up? So what if someone got a DUI or was busted with a bag of pot when they were younger, does this mean that they aren’t capable of being a good cop now? Obama was a pot smoker and cocaine user in college and he’s about to be president. Where is your indignation over that? Sometimes the best cops are the ones who’ve been a on the “other side” and know how a criminal mind works. I’ve met many fine police officers who have turned their lives around and are now an asset to their community. Should we judge them as criminals when they may have only been arrested or were convicted on a lowly misdemeanor or should we judge them on how well they do their jobs today? You’ll forgive an illegal alien, but not a fellow citizen? Much ado about nothing.

Hey Sloan, I think you’ve painted “everyone” in GA with a very broad brush, haven’t you. Depending on the offense and how long ago that offense was as to whether a person should be considered for a law enforcement career. Although I was never arrested when I was younger I know there were a lot of things that I did that I shouldn’t have done (they weren’t illegal) but just the same as we mature we get wiser. Everyone makes mistakes the question is did they learn from the mistake or keep making the same one over and over again.

Georgria has one, if not, the lowest standardes for law enforcement officers in the United States. But then we also have the lowest pay.

Now the big question, do you want someone who has an idea of whats going down or Johnny Do Good who hasn’t a clue?

Hard choice, but for me, give someone who knows the streets, not someone who reads it out of a book.

This is the same department where officers lie to cover up investigations of one their own. This is the same department that murdered a 92 year old woman in her home over a botched drug raid. This is the same department that has gotten DUI cases tossed out of court because their officers failed to follow proper procedures that a child could remember. It makes sense to me.

I guess that’s why traffic tickets are priority number one because the CRIMINALS patroling the streets with badges can relate and sympathize. Way to go Atlanta!! Of course, let’s sit back and wait for this to become a race issue.

So, are you ready to apply? Mr. Clean? It’s hard to find people with clean records, and if there are any…they don’t want to put their chests out there in front of flying bullets. Some of these new officers just came back from the military. So, are you going to call them criminals as well? what kind of crimes are we talking about? a bar fight? stealing candy from the store? taking pens from an employer? let’s be real. If you think your’re clean, go ahead an apply and patrol my street, where you will find thugs with AK47s.

Incredible that the common folk have to go through criminal background checks and those with records can’t get jobs, yet the APD will hire these same folks?

No wonder many folks think the police are one step away from jail theirselves.

This reeks!

The recruits apparently passed the test to the degree that it was being gauged…but also psyche evals and physical fitness. That’s quite the combination to achieve, coupled with the willingness to work for such low pay - high requirement, so if they were arrested before for fighting with their drunk neighbor, it’s probably all good…I’m almost 40 and never been in jail…arrested-per se…but I think I do have a little something on my record. There’s a difference between hardened street criminals and people who try to do right but dookie sometimes happens.

JC, I’m willing and probably Mrs. Clean enough…it’s the psycological exam…(I wish I could insert a laughing smiley here)haha.

I looked at this and seriously considered bringing it down, but you know what? This is the first time we’ve seen blubbering badie talk about something effective in months. So, I’ll add my two cents:

Anyone who has read my posts knows that I have no love lost for policemen in georgia, that’s going to be the obvious one. I have watched police in this area abuse power, fram and murder old ladies, hand out false DUI’s to anyone they come across, falsify police reports, protect illegals from prosecution, go on shooting rampages in suburban neighborhoods, get in firefights with other police departments, and yadda yadda yadda the list goes on too far to say here.

Randall Belcher (Bless him) is too busy pushing new city ordinance to clean up this town to even see what his officers are guilty of. APD? I wouldn’t know about them, though. I’m not black. If I was, I’m sure I could tell you everything they hit me with on the way to the jail.

The scariest thing is, I could easily easily be accepted to APD. I was in the marines, and my record is pretty damn clean. Far cleaner than some of these APD paramilitary bozoes. Is that what it comes to? Jais on the APD task force with a buzz cut? I’m sorry folks, I’m a self-respecting guy- but me with a badge is just about anyone’s worst g******* nightmare.

Now, what’s scarier still is the fact that I am in reality just a clean shaven, young-looking guy who is boringly honest in almost any situation. I will come to a full stop on an empty road in the middle of the night at a construction zone and never took more than one peice of candy from a complimentary bowl.

That being said, the APD is comprised of around 40% frigging animals with no respect for anyone or anything.

The shield? haha ‘The Shield’ is a silly television show. This is the real deal, and APD actually does these things. Even for the big men on top, it’s not about protecting and serving- it’s about getting what you can how it comes. If the common folk get squashed in the process, hell with it. There’s too many people in atlanta for anyone to care.

APD, GCSD, DPD, DORAVILLE PD, and just about 90% of the police stations have the bad apples Rick is talking about.

The only thing worse than me with a gun and a badge is the guy who already has a gun and a badge. I would like to end this little moment of zen with a quote from “The taxi driver”:

One day a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets

First of all, let me just say vast majority of you “posters” would never pass the psychological. It’s so nice to see everyone’s house is made of glass. Are you kidding me??? Nepotism has long been a hiring practice in police departments all over the COUNTRY. That’s why Sgt. O’reillys’ nephews and Lt. Sheridans cousins were able to get on the force WITH their arrests, convictions, sexual predications, drug usage and a wealth of other inadequacies that would automatically disqualify diverse applicants. So Atlanta PD needs recruits. You have to lower the bar and try to make the position a little more attractive. Let’s not forget you CAN be convicted an innocent at the same time. Nobody in this world is perfect. That includes police men and women, presidents, vice presidents, congress, priests etc etc etc. SO WHAT Obama admitted to drug dappling while he was in college! Did you attend college? College kids are quite the biggest abusers of some of the available host of drugs out there. We’ve had actors as President and a Mayor still till this day. Pedophiles, sex fiends, drug fiends, corruption, embezzlers throughout politics going back hundreds and thousands of years. A blemish on your record from the past is just that. Regardless, these men and women risk their lives everyday when the wake up and put on their uniforms. You know, kinda like going into the military? To Michael, I know how much you love and missed me, I’m your little “nut job”. Fact is you and your wacko buddy Jais are two punks who would never make it on ANY police force. You just like to run your mouth and sound intelligent, so just keep trying to do that and let’s leave the men in blue to the REAL men! :)

Certainly we should have have undertaken a witch hunt to try to get him thrown out of office! Or at least impeached. We shouldn’t have to stand for a President that has sex with a subordinate and lies about it. I mean, where is this country going if we sit idly by while a President has sex with a subordinate and lies about it?

Nowicunvme- this ‘poser’ already looked into it and I could easily pass the psych. Think again.

Stephanie- duluth officer Donna Baker (obama supporter) recently falsified a police report and had a man arrested for calling the shell station on 120 and buford highway to complain about the droves of illegals that stand in their parking lot. Cute, eh? The people pressing charges have no right to do so in this country, but she didn’t let that stop her. You tax dollars at work and DPD fails again. Sheesh.

whatareyou- No fool, it’s because he lied about it under oath, thus bypassing the justice system and commiting purgery as an american president. It’s the same as a cop beating up an old man out of anger and then lying about it in court; it’s not about the sex, which I’m sure was very lackluster it’s about abuse of power and misuse of authority.

Mike smith- get with the program, buddy…nowi and his wingmate are the same guy and you will note a distinct use of the same words in an incorrect fashion on their sentences.

AJC- get a life.

Democrats/ republicrats- screw you with a dull knife.

Barrack H. Obama- if you win I’m going on welfare; time for the blacks to feed the whites for once.

LT5000- what do you think about duluth pd sheltering illegals? I think it’s because the illegals represent an easy cash crop to the department. Love to see your comments here.

Rick Badie- what do you think about duluth’s ‘illegal harbor zone’ as coined by the recent election ads? And if possible, could you post a few words about your experience with it?

Jais- about the only thing we share common ground upon which to have any mutual stand would be on illegal immigration and for different reasons. I do not hate people for the color of their skin or their ancestral culture or for speaking a foreign language per se. I do however reserve the right to judge content of character, especially in regards to the lack thereof. I do hate what any illegal immigrant is doing. I do hate what our government is wrongly doing with immigration. I do detest ethnic separatism (in any form from any ethnicity) that is now so very pronounced among the majority illegal aliens and their various ethnocentric groups or supporters which are anti-American.

Thanks for the heads-up on the posers, though, I’ve been very aware of one-and-the-same under various labels.

And what mike, you think I do? I find many cultures and poeples fascinating. Some here have me painted a racist redneck but I’m from up north actually. Do I say some wild crazy bat-f* insane stuff? Hell yeah, that’s how I do it. It’s a blog remember, I sit here and do it while people are testing in the other room. Remember when I challenged like eight guys to a fistfight? Judas priest, nobody’s that nuts, it’s just horse crap I’m talking. Sometimes it’s from the hip but I can be an a*****, right? It’s one of my rights or something. I think.

Now, sure I say some hateful stuff. I do not retract statements about those groups, I do exclude anyone with class from them, however. I don’t think that stuff about people who show some friggin respect. I’ve maintained that. (I’m starting to sound like Obama)

But the idea IS still to get people thinking. what I said on Bill Allen’s blog ended up getting attention brought to things that were going unsaid by anyone- they actually did something about it. Then there was my suggestion about Strickland House, which got a blog started on it. There’s also a new city ordinance about to pass in duluth because of people like me complaining about it to the LT. governor’s office. They’re intending to arrest people for the first time in ‘little mexico’ as it was called in high school.

I went to school with the TEN SONS who’s family owned the old alcupulco restaurant in duluth. They are still somehow out there in america, still here living illegally. they have been for like thirty years.

It’s not the Race with me, Mike. Can I belt-out some off color remarks? I was a marine, of course I can. Anyways, without me you folks would have no fun.

I hate to ask but here goes. Who am I supposed to be one in the same with? my wingmate? Think about this…If we’re all anonymous anyway, why would I or anybody else need to blog under different aliases?? Believe me, it is not that serious Just another perfect example of how you think you know so damn much and you don’t know jack! notice a distinct use of the same words in a incorrect fashion on their sentences What distinct usage of the same words are you referring to and in what incorrect fashion? What part of “up north” are you from the NORTH POLE? Your implication that “racist rednecks” only live down south sounds moronic and unbecoming of a “true yankee”. Oh, and btw get ready to be a welfare recipient I guess. Are you going to quit your job or did you not have one? Enlighten me please for a moment, Blacks had been feeding whites for quite a long time or do you not remember slavery? Cooking, feeding, nursing, washing, working, singing, hell even cleaning your butts! Blacks did it all and still do. That’s why we do excel in everything that we do. That’s also the reason we’re hated on so much. Of course there are some bad apples in every bunch, but who doesn’t get a bad bunch every now and then. Look at us NOW!! It is certainly time for a change! That much you would have to agree!

Mr. Bradie,

Thats funny.. When I got out of the United States Marine Corps in Sep of 1992, I applied with the Atlanta Police Dept. I passed every test to include the polygraph. They took me through a 6 month hiring process. Then when it was over they said they would mail me a letter telling me to either report for the academy or dear john. I recieved a dear john letter stating that due to my bad credit I was not eligible or good enough for their police department. I have never committed a crime and I have a spotless record except for speeding tickets.

I call their BS card, It was because I was a short white male. I am 5’5” tall.. No other way to justify it.

If they would pay a decent salary and quit being so damn prejudice against white applicants then maybe they wouldn’t have to hire reject criminal pieces of crap. I have an idea lets hire crack addicts off the street and put them in uniform.

I think that it depends on the nature of the offense, convicted or not, if they should recruit people with criminal records. If it was a one time thing, and they are proving that they are not the same person by now trying to enforce the law instead of break it, then they should be given that chance. I myself was convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence a year ago and I wanted and still want to become a police officer but it is SO hard. Ive been turned down by so many police academies all because of a 5 minute verbal arguement with a girl. None of that was worth it and im not a violent person at all. I voluntarily took counseling just to prove that I wasnt. But so far that still isn’t enough. Im trying to do any and all that I can just to be able to wear that badge on my chest. This was my first offense and im not even 20 years old yet. It was a total accident of me not using my head. Now im struggling to follow my life-long dream but im not going to give up. I know that somewhere there is a police department that understands and sees that I am a good individual who wants to enforce the law, but just made a “young and dumb” mistake.
