Kenerly didn’t buy land months before stadium deal

AJC reporters Michael Pearson and Patrick Fox have run down the claims posted to this blog that Gwinnett County Commissioner Kevin Kenerly purchased land near the stadium three months before the deal was revealed to the public. They have found that the claims are incorrect.

Posts at this blog and at baseball economic J.C. Bradbury’s blog claim that Kenerly purchased the land in October 2007 - after county officials began secretly scouting for land for a new stadium but three months before the decision became public.

The land is located along Laurel Crossing Parkway, a little less than a half-mile north of the stadium site.

But Gwinnett County property records show the October 2007 transaction actually involved Kenerly selling half of his 50 percent stake in the land to his partners in the property venture; Mansour Properties LLC, operated by John Mansour; and Lifestyle Family Group LLC, run by Sam Leveto.

The records also show the partnership, including Kenerly’s company, has owned the site since 1996. That was long before the stadium was a point of discussion and before, even, construction of the nearby Mall of Georgia.

Incidentally, the land is closer to another stadium site considered - and ultimately rejected - by Gwinnett County. That site is a 65-acre parcel at Buford Drive and I-85 owned by the Orkin family.

Kenerly’s land is adjacent to that property.

Kenerly, who works as a real estate investor, told the Atlanta Journal-Constititution Thursday that he’s not interested in buying any land along the Ga. 20 corridor, including any near the stadium.

“With the way the economy is right now, I don’t think anybody is looking to purchase land,” he said.

He sold half of his ownership of the land in October to raise cash, and said he would like to sell the rest of it as well.

“I’m trying to unload everything,” he said.

Okay, So Kenerly bought the land before the stadium deal, however, if he owns the land, why did he not recuse himself from voting on the deal and the $19M cost increase? I mean, if he’s seeking to sell the property, doesn’t having the stadium across the street increase the value and saleability of his personal real estate? I would think that’s a conflict of interest.

How about let’s investigate the friendship between Kenerly and the construction co building the stadium… goes way back. No surprise that they are suddenly needing more funds… look for Kenerly and Nasuti to purchase some new homes in the near future. They are both CROOKS!!

Well how about Kenerly’s address being the smae as Bert’s Nasuti’s law firm?

I will go to the county tomorrow and find out in person what the deal was from the real estate records.

I would not trust a verbal statemtn from any of these guys.

Stay tunes!

Kevin Kenerly was actually my little league football coach back in the mid to late 90’s. He is as crooked now as he has ever been (he even had little kids swap jerseys in the middle of a game to try and fool the other team, and almost got kicked out for it). How much money did he make when he sold the family land on Hwy 29 and Pleasant hill where the Wal-Mart is now? Or how about selling the family “castle” on Gloster Rd to make room for another generic neighborhood. He didn’t care, he was moving out to Dacula. What amazes me the most is the fact that he keeps getting elected.

What are y’all talking about? Kevin Kenerly is the best county commissioner that money can buy!

Remember—I “first-post!“‘ed the first blog on the G-Braves right after the announcement with something like, “Where are they going to build the stadium? Where does Kevin Kenerly own land?”

I’m completely surprised. NOT!

By art

I believe Kevin Kenerly did NOT do anything ethically wrong by selling this land. The man is too STUPID to even comprehend ethics rules. Have you ever heard him speak at a commission meeting? He can’t even use proper English. He talks like the white trash he is. I feel sorry for him and the people who elected him.

If the upcoming “Splost” is voted to continue and the court expansion gets underway…who do you suppose owns the land that’s planned to be used?

Don S, check up on that tomorrow too, will ya?

Art, never underestimate Kenerly. What he lacks in the brains department, he’s covered in the wallet department. He can pay others to think and plan for him. But yes, in the commission meetings, he conducts himself like a high school student…and I’m being generous. When he doesn’t understand, he’ll use back woods hicks comments…what comes to mind especially is when he was “attempting” to discuss 287g with the sheriff, during the April 1, 2008 commission meeting.

Maybe he and Bannister are both reading from the same script? Each of them certainly has mastered how to be a complete bozo.

Jabster, come to think of it, I believe I do remember you saying just those very words.

Kenerly is a Crook. But worse than that is the people of North Gwinnett who keep on voting for the guy. Soon all the gangs and drugs will be in the north too and Kenerly will be off ruining another place.

This is the blogger that Rick is referencing. Personally, I think he “gets it” and why it’s relevant when a County Commissioner votes on a deal that will directly impact the value of property that he holds an ownership interest in. It doesn’t matter if he owns 100% or 1% of the property, he should have recused himself from voting on this deal because it was a clear conflict of interest and unethical.

Hey Cindy - Do you know where the SPLOST courthouse expansion is going to be? I just assumed if it was an expansion it would be adjacent to the current facility. Living close to downtown Lawrenceville, I would be interested to know.

What a venomous handful we have here. For the one who called me stupid for my post yesterday. Yes it would be unrealistic to think the stadium would pay for itself in two years- my intent was to bet that you’d already see a clear trend of success. And I bet you will. The other smarter readers picked up on that. I still think this stadium and the team will be a great asset to the community. I wish it cost $19m less, too, but that would also be unrealistic.

But I doubt it matters because even after yesterday’s conspiracy theory was debunked- the angry mob had already regrouped- along with the next round of name-calling. This group has even less credibility than “crooks” you seem to take joy in slandering.

And what’s this about Lassiter? She hasn’t even taken office yet and you’re already slamming her? I doubt anyone has a chance with this group.

This just in (from the Gwinnett Daily Post)

Grand jury tells DA to investigate land deals

“A Gwinnett grand jury has instructed the district attorney to investigate the county’s park land deals made in the past four years.

The instructions in presentments released Thursday, the day after the final meeting of the grand jury’s six-month session, were given after a political figure delivered information about the purchase of Beaver Ruin Park last year.

The controversial land deal was part of a contentious debate between Chairman Charles Bannister and Commissioner Lorraine Green, who represents the area and later battled Bannister for the GOP nomination for chairman, losing a runoff this summer.

While Bannister claimed the property was “swamp land” and “unusable,” Green pursued the purchase to not only keep apartments from being built in the community but to provide parkland to an under-served area of the county.

Joe Newton, a lobbyist from Norcross who actively campaigned against Green and was the subject of a controversial background check released by Sheriff Butch Conway, turned the information over to the grand jury.

“Based upon the information provided, the Grand Jury instructs the District Attorney to conduct a thorough review of all park land acquisitions for the past four years and present his findings to the next Grand Jury for whatever action they deem appropriate,” the presentments read.

Hopefully, since the commissioners saw fit to use OUR TAX DOLLARS set aside for parks, to build the new baseball stadium, that land deal will be investigated as well.

Bill- Michael Pearson wrote another good article on this today. The best thing one can take out of it is the Alife Meek portion ( Gwinnett Coun ties Economist).” No one has so far studdied what kind of impact…. this will have on tax collections..” Here lies the problem the BOC has only scepulated on the impact.

I urge everyone to look at the counties website and the financial statemtn they post for the stadium. My 10 year old could have doen a better job. Ammazing that it only is half done!

You are right Shirley has not taken office and I will vote against her and Bannister even though I will have to vote for a democrat. Lassiter did not do Duluth any favors when she was in office.

So the big question is does Nasuti’s law firm own the building that ehy occupy right by the stadium? By the way this is also Kenerly’s address for the realestate business.

By bill

Pearson’s article states that Meek says the study shows more than a $14 million economic impact just from the home games played- not too shabby even if it’s on the optimistic end of the scale. The way I interpret the article, Meek hasn’t expanded the study to see how much MORE of an impact the stadium will have. Again, I think the positives will outweigh the negatives- but I do agree, there will be some negatives- probably even some unintended consequences that aren’t on anyones radar. However, unless something truly crooked is unearthed, or something significant is overlooked with the project, I support it as a bold move from community leadership- even though it does make me a little nervous to dip so far into savings. But if I had a chance to buy into this promising of an investment, I’d consider dipping into my savings, too.

Thanks for the selling points Bert. Unfortunately, I’m already invested into this baseball scheme/thing I never would have voted for had it been put on the ballot.

Folks need to look at the budget, falling revenues, the reality of the present economy - likely worsening on the heels of today’s jobs report - and ask a few questions of themselves. I certainly am and I don’t like the answers that self is giving to me in reply.

And From Today’s Illegal Immigrant News.

NORCROSS - A 31-year-old Norcross man has been identified as the fifth of five victims found in a Birmingham, Ala. apartment with their throats slit after being tortured over missing drug money, authorities said.

The body, belonging to Armando Ibarra Mendoza, was identified through medical records comparison, according to the Shelby County Coroner’s Office.

Mendoza - who has no criminal history in Gwinnett County - and four other men were found Aug. 20 in an apartment by authorities with their throats slashed after being bound, beaten and tortured by electrical shock.

The deaths were drug-related contract killings carried out by a drug cartel over missing money that totaled between $400,000 and $450,000, according to Shelby County Sheriff Chris Curry.

Four men have been arrested and charged with capital murder in the killings.

They remain jailed without bond.

I got news for all you guys- Kennerly does in fact play the real-estate market, and yes, that is his law firm’s address, and yes, he’s had his eyes on that land for years and I can prove it through statements he made on the record in city council meetings. These files are available from the gwinnet county access channel.

Kennerly is a dirty, corrupt career politician. Do not be fooled by smoke and mirrors, Kennerly is a Republicrat.

Who wants to talk about the time a news channel busted him sitting amongst the richest contruction moguls in the state at a strip club? What were they doing? Why what else- planning their corrupt deals and exchanging envelopes full of money behind what they thought were closed doors. Too bad for them the news channel bribed the bouncer at the door and ran right past it. Kennerly was seen walking immediately to his expensive car and when asked what he was doing just shrugged with a guilty as sin grimace on his dirty little used-car-salesman face.

Make no mistake about it, the da will either accept his bribes behind closed doors, or bust his a* bigtime.

as for whistleblowers, GEORGIA POLITICIANS BEWARE- we are watching with recorders, cameras and legal teams. The people of this state aren’t in your pocket anymore, and when you get funding you ASK for it, not take it. Letters to the senate and congress have been mailed in masse concerning Greene, Bannister, Lasseter, Conway and Kennerly. If one of you asswipes reads this, you are already in the frying pan. Too late now, the wheels are in motion. You better have a more solid defense than “No I didn’t” because now you have several agencies looking into it. Hope your bribes match your spending habits or you are done.

LT, Can you please get past the flipping suspension already?

I bet that either 1) You work for the AJC and post your BS just to get a rise out of some people (maybe YOU are Badie).

2) You are the suspended cop (GOD what a scary thought).

3) You HOA voted you out of HOA vice pres and you miss the power trip from that.

4) Maybe you are on the Gwinnett BOC and are trying to deflect criticism of the ball park FUBAR.

5) You are a woman living in a man’s body.

I only have one question:

Can somebody tell me how with $14.6 million econmic impact on Gwinnett can they pay for $59 million stadium?

The tax rate for the entire county and state only adds up to 6% that would be about $850,000 in tax revenue to be slpit among state and county.

I have searched for an econmic impact study and cannot find one just the third party feasibilty study.

As usual, you are too clever by half.

Go back and look at who attacked who first. I certainly didn’t solicit your asinine opinion. Badie posts plenty of those.

Badie’s blog is subpar on several levels, and I have caught, and exposed, him printing fallacies (Don’t get excited, it’s not the same as phallus) on several occassions.

His blog is nothing more musing of a mentally challenged moron.

I can back up eveything I say with facts.

Someday when you get your GED, you can go to the library and read some books. Then maybe we can have a discussion. As it stands right now, you are at a severe disadvantage.
