Hours after the Republican run-off, Green’s yard gets trashed
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
She stepped outside to get the morning newspaper.
Hours earlier, incumbent Gwinnett County Commissioner Lorraine Green had lost a hotly-contested race for the chairman’s post. Incumbent Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Charles Bannister (51 percent) had narrowly defeated Green (49 percent) in the Aug. 5 Republican runoff.
The next morning, she was greeted with a reminder of just how ugly the contest had been. The front yard of the home she shares with her husband, Bob and two sons, had been littered with her campaign signs.
“They were signs that had been ripped out from their posts from all around here,” Green told me Wednesday.
But the culprits didn’t go undetected.
Turns out a neighbor’s security camera caught them on tape. Green said several adults can be seen emerging from four cars to do their deed. The camera noted the time at 2:53 a.m., about four hours after the election results had been confirmed.
“It was adults,” Green said. “They were some people I know.”
Green made it a point to say that she was not intimating that Bannister had anything to do with the mean-spiritedness. She hasn’t decided whether to involve the authorities.
“Part of me says to let it go,” she said. “Part of me says people deserve to know about this. My first thought was that my kids don’t need to see this.”
So I ask you, the readers.
What would you do if you were Green?

Ms. Green needs to ID these jerks and call the authorities. This is ridiculous.

To the victors go the spoils.
Now Badie is acting like the yard was trashed beyond recognition, I’m guessing it was 100 signs or so, any pics around?
I suggest all the readers of Badie’s insipid blog print out his Pro Obama articles and litter his yard with them the day after the election.
After Obama loses. Of course we’ll have to see the weeping pudding of a man known as Rick Badie when we do it.
We all know Badie has been using his blog to campaign for Blowbama.

I agree. ID them. If you can do it in the dark, you’re big enough to have your name exposed in the daylight.
Bring it on, Lorraine!

I seen two of her signs just today on Cruise Road, one lawn sign and one big sign. To be fair I also viewed a Bannister sign, a big one, in front of a gas station also on Cruise.
What would I do if I were Green or Bannister, pick up all the signs as promised.

Sigh.
I am sorry Ms. Green and her family had to endure this. But Gwinnett, this is nothing compared to the trashing you’re going to get for the next four years.
With Lorraine gone and Squirelly Shirley in her stead, Gwinnett will be the recipient of many trashings. Look for colorful characters to reappear. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Billy M. come out of hiding, would we?
Kenerly will go back to his old ways and screw the taxpayers. Bert will be spineless as usual. And Beaudreau, well, he’ll tilt at a few windmills but will be in the minority and useless.
Gwinnett, we only have yourselves to blame. We let a good person down. But, more importantly, we let our future go down the drain as well. Carl Warlick got it 100% right in his latest cartoon.

Yep. That’s exactly the type of folks I would expect to hang out with Chuck. They are responsible for $1.6 billion budget, but so juvenile they’ll do crap like that?
Jackson County is looking better and better every day.

I’d thank them. It’s a heckava lot less exciting picking up after the campaign then it is before. And she put up a truckload. They did her a favor.

Let’s see ethics complaints flying back and forth, not from the other side, but Republican against Republican. A sheriff who goes out secretly taping a person for purely political reasons. Now a commissioner boo-hooing because someone dumped her campaign signs on her front lawn, look at the bright side, at least they took a few down for you.
I have never seen a bigger bunch of crybabies in one party in my life.

Ah, yes, John Dunn, another relic from the McKinney past. What a surprise to see you raising your ugly head again now that Bannister won!
Didn’t take long for the prediction to come true, did it?

Oh the irony.
Badie is upset that someone trashed Mrs. Greene’s yard, but not the fact that all of Norcross is trashed by our visting illegal friends.
I’m sure after all the signs were in her yard, it looked a lot better than any house along Singleton Rd.
Those people trash their own yards with beer bottles, pizza boxes and diesel powered trucks with airbrushed images of the Virgin Mary.
Where is the outrage?

They were just trying to help Mrs. Green collect all of her signs in a timely fashion! She should thank the “perpetrators” for their help. Better to see them in Green’s yard then all around Gwinnett. By the way, Bannister still has to take on his Democrat opponent in November so he can leave his signs up.
Mrs. Green, I hope you plan to bring all those useless signs to the recycling plant? Are you going to try again in 4 years? I hope not!

I don’t know the true intent of the people who dumped those signs in the Green’s yard, whether it was just a joke or a message, but it’s no worse than getting papered. So what if her kids see it.
Fortunately, there was no real damage, and it certainly looks mean-spirited, but Green, Bannister and all of the others need to remove their signs.

You Bannister guys continue to just exude class don’t you?
Is there ANYBODY out there who would like to wake up to having their yard trashed? Is there anyone who really thinks that politics excuses any sort of rude behavior that the victor wishes to dole out? I guess if anybody DARES challenge Lord Charles that they deserve what they get right?
Perhaps if the energy that was spent trashing Green’s yard were actually spent doing something constructive the county would be a better place to live. We’ll never know because we’re going to get four more years of Bannister.

All those signs are eyesores anyways. I’m glad someone cleaned them up. Now if it was only possible for them to take all my phone messages from these idiot politicians and dump them as well. I vote for whoemever sends me the least amount of junk. They are all useless anyways. If you have to pray on the capital steps to solve your water problem, then you got some serious lack of mental abilities. Sometimes I wish that the South was just allowed to leave the rest of the States, it’s just so different here than anywhere else. And not in a good way.

Concerned Citizen, personally it’s a little for Bannister to leave his signs up for the Nov. election. Leaving them up for that long they become just eyesores and not campaign signs. They could have missed a few?

Let it go.
The perpetrators were a bit juvenile but if there wasn’t any property damage done Green can demonstrate she’s gracious in defeat by not pressing the issue.
As a community leader I expect her to focus her energies on improving Gwinnett. Her role will be much different than if she had won the runoff, but if she’s sincere about having a positive impact on the community there’s no reason to quit now.

If Badie wants to cover a true political disgrace in Georgia, how about the mayor of Lithonia Joyce McKibben.
Oh yeah, he won’t in this the year 2008 and afe of the Obama. For obvious reasons.

John Dunn…your head ain’t ugly but your record as a commissioner sure is. Remember 2004 when as an incumbant you couldn’t even make the runoff? Heck, I bet even DOUG STACKS could beat you. Sit down…shut up and be glad you aren’t charged a fee to be a Gwinnett resident.

To compare rolling a house to trashing a yard is pathetic.
Rolling a house is done by KIDS making a statement to other KIDS.
What these guys did to Green was done by ADULTS to another ADULT.
It was nothing but mean and petty - but that has been the mantra of the entire Bannister campaign. (I actually had one of his people come to my house and tell me that Green would bring MARTA and ‘those people’ to Gwinnett. Guess they didn’t realize my wife was one of ‘those people’!)
It’s funny how people are calling on the honest loser to be classy, but what about the winner? Then again, that would be futile, wouldn’t it? Bannister doesn’t know what the word means. And obviously, neither do his friends.

I think it was just a bunch of crazy kids who had nothing better to do at 2 o clock in the mornin.
By O, you know who did it Lorraine??
February 6, 2009 2:04 PM | Link to this
1st- No, you dont know who did it Lorraine. If you knew, we would have heard by now! 2nd- It was done, not because we dont like you but because we hate your son Alex! He is an obnoxious, pot smoking, binge drinking, annoying kid. I had to deal with him for 4 year in high school, seeing him everyday! His continous facebook status that read “Alex is higher than hell” “Alex is f*cked up” and my personal fevorite “Alex has his Grizz, his Marlboro Reds, just drank two five hour energies and smoked a blunt. Time to wage war on my final paper.” 3rd- yes, it was a bunch of crazy friends that wanted to have fun at 4am and was happy that she lost! As simple as that! Some harmless fun, easy cleanup for her.
