Animal lover cares about dogs, not Vick
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
She couldn’t care less if Falcons quarterback Michael Vick takes another snap.
And the thought of the Falcons not having a winning season in light of Vick’s indictment on federal dogfighting charges hasn’t entered her mind.
What Nancy Elizabeth Green cares about are the dogs — how they lived and how they died.
The feds allege that, if Vick’s dogs lost a fight, they were killed by cruel methods, such as electrocution. Green shudders at the thought.
“If you soak a dog with water, then execute him, you’re not human,” she told me. “You’re a sociopath.”
I first met her in November 2004, when I wrote about her public appeal for help to nab a motorist who apparently ran over her dog. Priscilla, a 4-year-old Aussie shepherd, survived but lost sight in her right eye.
Green, a licensed private investigator, wanted Snellville police to prosecute. She asked any witnesses to step forward. No one was ever apprehended, though.
Then in April 2006, she saw an SUV get broad sided on North Druid Hills Road near I-85. A frightened pooch jumped out of the damaged car and took to the woods. Green stopped to help the dog owner search for the animal. The leashed dog was returned to its owner days later. A story about the lucky pet ran in an edition of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
This Philly native has been rescuing stray and abused canines for nearly two decades. Calling her a pet lover doesn’t capture the depth of her compassion. One time, she told me — quite seriously — that she “thinks” the way dogs do.
Now she may have an even better sense of their thought processes. Green recently spent a weekend chained up with 14 other dog advocates. The event, held June 30 and July 1 in Atlanta’s Piedmont Park, was part of a nationwide campaign organized by Dogs Deserve Better (www .dogsdeservebetter.org), a nonprofit in Tipton, Pa.
“Laying out there in the hot sun, with a heavy chain around my neck, was horrific,” said Green, 53, who was chained for 17 hours. “And I had the convenience of water and a small umbrella.”
Usually, Green e-mails me whenever a local story about animal cruelty makes headlines. She didn’t contact me about the Vick indictment, so I called her to get an animal lover’s perspective.
“Imagine being semi-starved so you’re made to be really aggressive,” she told me. “Small rabbits and other animals are hung on hooks, and the [fight dogs] are kept running after them on a treadmill until they are exhausted. That’s how they train them.”
As she talked on her cellphone, Green was en route to rescue a border collie in Clayton County. She’ll be the replacement for “Geneva,” a mixed border collie and cocker spaniel who died Dec. 19 after suffering from blindness and diabetes.
“I know this sounds insane, but I have been begging Geneva to send me a replacement that’s in dire straits,” Green said, “and this dog is it. “
Perhaps some dogs act more humane than (some) human beings.

Washington, DC… U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., spoke out against the practice of dog fighting in the United States. Byrd, a dog owner who has long fought for animal rights, is greatly concerned with recent national news about the indictment of a well-known professional football player for running a dogfighting operation. Although laws exist that prohibit dogfighting and it is now a federal crime to allow this practice, animal welfare officials report that dogfighting is more popular today than ever.
Text of Senator Byrd’s remarks:
Madame President, For several days, the news has been saturated with stories about the indictment of a well-known professional football player for running a dogfighting operation. I am not about to comment on that particular case. The man has been accused. He has not been convicted. We must wait until all the facts are in, and a verdict is rendered. The man cited in these recent news stories is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We must wait for the justice system to run its course. But, the facts are already in, and the verdict has already been delivered, about the scourge of dogfighting in the United States. According to the Humane Society, there are about 40,000 dogfighting operations in the United States. The Deputy Manager of Dogfighting Issues for the Humane Society, John Goodwin, points out, “… dogfighting is at an epidemic level” in the United States. It involves urban areas as well as rural areas, and all sections of the country as it cuts across cultures and class and other socio and economic differences. Dogfighting continues even though all fifty states now have laws on the books prohibiting dogfighting. Dogfighting is now a federal crime; yet, animal welfare officials report that dogfighting is more popular today than ever. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars are often at stake in the breeding, training and selling of fighting dogs. Two dogs are placed in a pit and turned loose against each other. The fight can go on for hours as the dogs literally bite and rip the flesh off one another and bets as high as $50,000 are placed. The brutality goes on until one of the dogs is seriously injured, or killed. For that reason, Mr. President, dogfighting is regarded as a “blood sport.” While bloody, it is hardly a sport. It is a brutal, sadistic event motivated by barbarism and cruelty. One is left wondering: Who are the real animals – the creatures inside or outside the ring? The depravity of dogfighting is also a multi-million dollar business that involves training innocent, vulnerable creatures to kill, and putting them in a ring, to kill or be killed for the entertainment and/or profit of their owners and other spectators. Undercover investigators who have infiltrated dogfighting rings have found blood-soaked dogs with life-threatening injuries that are left to die, as soon as they are no longer able to compete. They have found dogs with ripped ears, torn lips, genitals dangling from their bodies, eyes swollen shut, and faces riddled with punctures so severe that they were barely able to breath. The dogs who do survive a fight often die days or even hours days after the fight from blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection. If the losing dog survives the ordeal, it is usually so mangled that it is no longer of any use. Therefore, it is put to death according to a story in the Baltimore Sun (July 6. 2007), “… by drowning, strangulation, hanging, gunshot, electrocution, or some other method. “Even the winner of a dogfight commonly suffers from massive bleeding, ruptured lungs, broken bones, or other life-threatening injuries. The training of these poor creatures to turn them into fighting machines is simply barbaric. Such practices as starvation of the animal, to encourage malice, and beatings, to build endurance are common. It involves teaching the dog to maul by using smaller animals such as cats or rabbits, or small dogs as “training bait.” The results of this most cruel business reaches beyond the fighting ring itself. There are cases of dogs trained to kill which have broken loose and mauled human beings to death. It is reported that dogfighters often involve their children in their bloody activities, with severe damaging psychological impact. Studies have revealed that children exposed to dogfighting develop a greater acceptance of aggressive attitudes and behavior. They are taught to believe that violence is entertaining and that it is okay to inflict the cruelties they have observed. Dogfighting, reports the Houston Chronicle, simply “breeds violence.” Mr. President, as a dog owner and a dog lover, I cannot even begin to understand how human beings can be so cruel to man’s best friend. Over the centuries, these creatures of God have made a place in our hearts as well as our homes. Dogs have endured as our devoted companions, which provide important emotional support to humans. Studies have shown that the mere petting of these social creatures can lower blood pressure in humans. The affection that a dog provides is unlimited, unqualified, and unconditional. Ever the loyal companion, dogs protect us, assist those of us with afflictions, and provide hours of enjoyable companionship. Therefore, I take great satisfaction in knowing that if the people allegedly involved in this outrageous business are found guilty, they will have to answer to our judicial system, and may god help their souls. Congress has made it a federal crime to engage in dogfighting. God made man caretaker of the earth. God gave man the responsibility of tending to the natural world with dominion over animal life. We honor God when we treat all of His creatures responsibly and with decency and respect. The Book of Proverbs in the Holy Bible tells us: “A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” The immortal Dante tells us that Divine Justice reserves special places in hell for certain categories of sinners. I am confident that justice reserves certain places in hell for sinners. I am confident that the hottest places in hell are reserved for sick and brutal people who hold God’s creatures in such brutal and cruel contempt.
I yield the floor.

Me, Senator Byrd, and PETA on the same side of this issue - that’s scary.
How about we let Vick play this year and if he doesn’t perform, i.e. win the Super Bowl, we treat him like he did his dogs that didn’t measure up.

Pretty well spoken for a former Klansman whose organization is responsible for the death of HUMAN BEINGS!
Lets keep this whole issue in perspective and let the legal system run its course. Are we going to have a new article(s) about this for the next year?

Mine is only a small voice from Texas (though I am a native of Atlanta), but I can assure you this: as long as this barbaric cretin is the quarterback of the Falcons, I will have nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with this team, and I will boycott all Home Depot stores. Yes, this man, if you can call him that, deserves the protections of our legal system, but that does not mean he deserves to be the leader of a professional athletic team. And finally, I would agree wholeheartedly with Senator Byrd; may there be a special place reserved in hell for people who treat one of God’s creatures in this barbaric way.

Arthur Blank needs to get a clue and drop Michael Vick like the trash he is already.
I wouldn’t bat an eye if I heard that Michael Vick had been gang raped, half starved, soaked down, head banged against concrete, and then electrocuted.
He’s trash.

That’s a nice story, but I’d like to ask this woman how many cows, chickens, pigs, and fish had to die to fill her stomach and the stomachs of their loved ones. Who decided that a dog’s life is more valuable than the life of a cow or chicken? Most of these animal lovers are hypocrites.
Nice to know we all respect our fellow citizens’ right to due process before passing judgment on them.

Michael Vick is a horrible role model. Don’t make this about race- it would be just as horrible if her were white or any other race. He unfortunately has enough $ to buy his way out of it. I will not support the falcons ever again if they keep him. This type of crime is horrible and glorifies aggressive dogs which leads to people chaining them to trees to be tough and that leads to ptoblems. Dog fighting is barbaric and needs to be stopped.

Children and Pets can’t control their circumstances. In most cases adults can. That is why I have more empathy for the former when they are mistreated. The problem is ignorant people who see nothing wrong with abuse of animals. Yes, there is a food chain but our society has removed dogs and cats from it.

I’ll be marching with PETA every home game until the Falcons cut Vick. It’s not JUST about him being accused of enabling and supporting and enjoying not only dog fighting, but executing of dogs…….it’s also because for the last few years he has CONSTANTLY been making horrible character choices. Let’s face it. The man is not a leader. He associates with criminals regularly. He spread herpes, he kept it quiet with hush money. His boys stole a Rolex, it was kept quiet with hush money. He tries to bring a WATER BOTTLE on an air plane, when there are clearly signs all over the air port stating you cannot bring liquids on a plane…not to mention that the container had a hidden compartment which apparently smelled of pot. Hush money and intimidation again brushed the truth under the table…the bottle was tested…supposedly not enough pot to be prosecuted and then the bottle and all evidence suspiciously destroyed before any reporters could give the details (which is highly unusual…hush money again). He cannot keep his cool on the field, not on the way off the field (shot the bird finger at ticket holders). I don’t care what they said. Vick isn’t the first person to be cussed out or insulted, it’s as old as time. It’s called “trying to get under someones skin to see if you can make them loose their cool”….Mike lost it and insulted the fans. The stories go on and on…and he is blindly supported by people who obviously care more about winning football games than character. THAT is pathetic and what makes the South look ignorant backwards. You people who continue to support Vick are quite often unable to explain away in a common sense way ALL the PATTERN of events the man CONTINUES to surround himself with. He is a horrible leader on and off the field. He is a horrible FACE OF THE FALCONS and ATLANTA. He is, whether he likes it or not, as the face of the team A ROLE MODEL. If he were any other Joe Blow, he would have been fired long ago…but no…he makes money for people and money and winning is more important than being a horrible role model and now allegedly a PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN BEING. I don’t want to hear “did you eat meat today, then your as bad as a dog fighter”. That is the stupidest response ever. Humans eat meat. Meat which is regulated and LEGAL and which is done in a way that is in balance with nature…and for a purpose…TO LIVE and GROW HUMANS. Dog fighting is done simply for entertainment…and the dogs live a horrible existence long before they fight…some of them brutally murdered before ever fighting…some fighting and then being murdered…some being murdered in the fights…and for what?…food for people to live?…no…for a rush…because it’s barbaric and like gladiators…bottom line is…IT’S ILLEGAL…if you think it should be legal, then start rallying politicians to legalize it……….but until it’s legal…..It is a crime. I dare say there is nothing that can be said to convince the blind ignorant Vick faithful. America was founded and prospered on character and hard work. America is a country of law. Dog fighting, and consistently horrible choices as a role model is both illegal and bad character. The man should have been gone long before the dog fighting business. As it is, PETA will be at every game Mike plays….because…just like Mike…PETA is able to make choices…PETA stands up to defend those who cannot defend themselves…MIKE stands up to propagate criminals, STV, vulgarity, and to get his jollies on the torture of those unable to make their own choices (dogs). Do what’s right. Sack Vick, before America thinks less of the South than it already does. Grow a backbone and fire the man. Not because he was accused of dog fighting, (because he hasn’t been convicted)…but because of EVERY other thing he has done and never cares that it effects children as he is both a role model for some of them (in their eyes) as well as the face of the Falcons and Atlanta. We need a face which represents character, dignity and honor…Mike Vick is has none of those qualities. SACK VICK!!! See you at the dome with my dog and the rest of PETA.

The one thing that really gets me about all this is the racial divide over blood sports, I mean that is what we are talking about here. Look we live in a somewhat civilized society where we don’t fight dogs for sport, nor do have the need to hunt for food, so where is the out cry for the hunters who high powered rifles into the woods and hills and kill animals, besides the obvious, one is legal argument, lynching used to be accepted if not legal. The real question is what makes one for of animal harm better than the other?

london, don’t be ignorant. Most people who want Mike gone wanted him gone long before the dog fighting mess. They don’t want him gone because they are “good old boys” either, that’s a tired lazy response, so spare me. They DO want him gone because of the LONG list of things he has done to embarrass the franchise. Herpes, Stolen Rolex, Blunt on My Space, continue to hang with known criminals, the Pot…er Water bottle, finger to the crowd…the list goes on…the details change, but the common thing is Mike Vick and hush money sweeping things under the table. Sure, you might say “yeah, but what about so-and-so, they did something bad”…that very well may be…and they should be punished for it…but the difference is…”so-and-so” in almost every case did ONE thing and learned their lesson. Mike Vick never learns…he continues to make bad choices on and off the field…if dog fighting were the first thing he had ever been basically caught doing (but covered up with hush money in a VERY obvious way), then people would not be as outraged, because people make mistakes and are entitled to due process. The issue most folks have is that Vick is the face of the franchise and therefore Atlanta sports…….and the man embarrasses our city and country over … and over … and over … and over … so … every time he says “oh, I’m sorry I’m going to be a better man going forward” … then makes another stupid choice. The man makes stupid choices and is an embarrassment, regardless of dog fighting. If he IS found guilty of knowing about the dog fighting at the property he owned for 6 years (how could he not know anyway, give me a break, would you know?)………if he is found guilty, it will not only be stupid choice #7, but it will be proof that he has enjoyed torturing creatures who cannot make choices (stupid or otherwise)…torturing the innocent for fun is sick, whether you agree or not…and it’s ILLEGAL. Fool me once, shame on you…fool me twice…shame on me…fool me 5, 6, 7 times then you are a complete idiot who doesn’t deserve to be the face of a diverse city like Atlanta (and very hard to believe when claiming innocence of another stupid choice (dog fighting)). Character and honor are a lot more important than “winning football games”. Grow up and take off the blinders.

If you have a cause in this country and you want to get the people stirred. Just find a rich Black male and let the frenzy begin. It’s a very simple formula for a witch hunt. Why isn’t there talk of Tom Brady and his proven documented connection to BALCO? The Feds sure want Bonds? But it couldn’t be racism? How about the RAPE that occurred a Patrick Kearney’s house? When he was home!!! Sounds alot worse than dog fighting to me. How about the Benoit guy that murdered his wife and kid? I’ve only read tribute and blame regarding him. America will always tear down prominent Black men and make them seem lower than whale dung. Then there’s reference to OJ. Well the American judicial has OJ’d the Black community since we’ve come here. Don’t make me out to be a racist, ‘cause I’m not. Just being observant.
Well let me tell that it is all relative when you have Barbaro being killed/euthanized. That horse won the Kentucky Derby, in a blood sport for money. If you don’t believe me it’s bloody ask Barbaro, he’s dead. How about the guy that pays thousands to kill a lion that was raised by people just to be killed and made a trophy of. Or how about the trophy bass on your wall? Do you think that fish would prefer life? It’s relevant because it’s all done in the name of SPORT! And all these poor animals are dead! Not for sustenance, but sport.
American society is so hypocritical and easily swayed when a Black man is the accused. They attempt to hide their racism behind a “just” cause. The fact of the matter is Vick is a Black man, that plays the QB position, and has not assimulated to white society. Therefore he’s nothing more than the worst images protrayed by this society of a barbaric Black man.
They claimed they loved you when you first arrived in Atlanta. The truth is they only tolerated you and envied your celebrity. And at the first opportunity they were going to tear you down.
But you Mr. Vick are the idiot. You knew the cards you were dealt, but you chose to play your hand blindly. Now look at this mess. You’re quilty by association if nothing else. You have been told all your life that things aren’t equal in this country, and you have to be twice a good as the next guy. Vick I love you, but you gave these predators the ammo they needed. You are no different than that fish mounted on the wall, except you killed yourself.

Thank god this is a Federal indictment rather then an indictment handed down by a local DA. The Feds have an unlimited budget and can afford more resources then even Vick.
Like MLK said, “they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” This issue has nothing to do with race. This has to do with the content of his character. Ron Mexico, “secret compartment water-bottle”, shooting double birds to fans (black, white and children) at a game. Look at his character. . He has shown this community that his character is that of a thug. What positive steps has this man taken in the last year of his life? What has he done to improve the quality of life of those around him? What has he done to show that he is a worthy role model to young children and to the black community? This has absolutely NOTHING to do with race. You reap what you sow.

cc, your first paragraph is a perfect example of the failed logic often used to “support Vick” (though you clearly do not support his choices in your last paragraph, so for that I respect your perspective). Your first paragraph mentioned individuals and the ONE thing they have done (or are suspected of having done). The issue with Vick is, he has a pattern of: doing something stupid and embarrassing the Falcons and Atlanta…then apologizing saying he will be a good leader in the future and he understands the big picture…only to do something else…rinse…repeat…rinse…repeat…rinse…repeat…rinse…repeat…rinse…repeat…rinse…repeat…rinse…repeat…main stream Americans of all colors and backgrounds are generally understanding when someone makes A mistake (as the people in your first paragraph did), what separates Vick from this understanding is that he has lied to our faces repeatedly. The lie being that he understands he has the huge honor and responsibility to be a leader and set a good example as the face of the Falcons and in a large part Atlanta. (There are lots of kids who look up to him, just because he is the leader of an NFL team.)
So the bottom line is, he is like the boy who cried wolf……..you fool someone once, shame on you…you fool someone twice, shame on them….but in Mikes case, he has fooled someone (fans, Atlanta, kids, etc) nearly countless times. You simply cannot make stupid choices that many times and expect people to understand anymore, regardless of race or dog fighting.
Your point about horse racing is not valid either. Horses are pampered and only euthanized because they have broken a leg, so they are in horrid pain and it’s a bad quality of life for them. Hunting, is monitored and keeps the balance in nature. There are a million excuses, but regardless, dog fighting is widely considered horrible and is illegal…period.
We need a face which represents character, dignity and honor…Mike Vick is has none of those qualities. SACK VICK!!! See you at the dome with my dog and the rest of PETA.
I respect your perspective, but have to disagree with some of your views. Welcome to America, we are all entitled to our opinions. Mike is entitled to a trial now, but America is entitled to decide enough was enough long before this latest (alleged) bad choice.

yeah come to the game and bite all of us Vick supporters. Its going to be fun at the Dome and whether Vick is there or not I encourage all his supporters to represent. We will see who has the biggest bite. To many fakers pretending to be outraged. This is just hate for the man because of who he is and not about dogs. Let the system punish him and learn from it. But all you do gooders, especially the ajc sports staff, its just obvious that it goes beyond the alleged allegations. This is just a “witchhunt” or put that boy in his place type of deal!

Oh yes, wahhhh, it’s all a “conspiracy” to keep a “brutha” down.
We “shouldn’t say anything until he’s proven guilty in a court of law”? Don’t make me laugh! EVERYONE knows OJ Simpson practically cut off his ex-wife’s head but he was ACQUITTED ONLY because he’s a “brutha” so don’t give me that b******.
The only people making this a racial issue (ONCE AGAIN) are the blacks. Nothing else matters. That’s your ENTIRE reason for being - don’t take ANY personal responsibility because “it’s all whitey’s fault”. GAG.
Maybe, MAYBE when you clean up YOUR CULTURE and start taking personal responsibility for your actions you’ll go farther. I think Dr. Bill Cosby tried to say the same things but he was excoriated in the media for that, wasn’t he? It’s so much easier to yell “racism” and cry about being “oppressed” by “the man” when you’re in trouble isn’t it?
As for the fallacious (look it up) argument that there’s never an “outrage” when it’s a white man breaking the law, uh - what about the outrage when Pete Rose was caught BETTING on baseball games? I think dog abuse is definitely more serious than betting.

It is very difficult, of not impossible, to know what a celebrity/athlete, etc. is really like as a person. One measuring stick for me is how someone treats animals. Participating and/ or even condoning dog fighting says all I need to know about a person. Mick Vick is nothing but trash. Treating defenseless animals like that (or condoning it) is absolutely unacceptable. To me it is quite ironic that dog fighting is so wide-spread in the African-American community. Dog fighting consists of treating animals that are defenseless in an inhumane manner, simply for the sake of enjoyment and profit, with no thought of the quality of life to the animal. Dog fighters consider dogs simply as property, not a creature of God.
I would have more respect for the Falcons if they cut ties with Vick and did not win any games for a couple of years than if they made another excuse for him, etc. I hope that Blank realizes that they community just will not tolerate Vick as a Falcon anymore. Add my name to the list of people that will no longer support the Falcons as long as Vick is a member of the team. Blank seems to be intelligent with public relations, so I am sure that he privately realizes that Vick can’t remain a Falcon, he just has to figure out what to do and when to do it.
Vick, you have made your bed, now you have to lie in it. Poor choices lead to consequences and you are about to run the gauntlet. I hope that you learn from this experience and grow as an individual. I hope this has a profound affect on you and you see the errors of your way.

r30309, that was very well said.
a correction of my post:
“Horses are pampered and only euthanized because they have broken a leg, so they are in horrid pain and it’s a bad quality of life for them. “
A broken leg is not the only reason racing horse is euthanized, but the point is, euthanizing is done because the animal is in such pain that they have a torturous quality of life, thus it is “human” to put them out of their misery (in theory). I’m sure there are exceptions to every rule, because there are bad people in EVERY walk of life.
more:
About hunting…it is (in theory) done to keep a balance of nature. Tt is regulated. It is done because there are not enough natural predators to keep the deer population in check (for example). If their was not hunting, the deer would over eat the land and the circle of life would become out of balance. It is perfectly sound, if done within reason. Again, there are bad people who probably abuse this. I do not hunt; however, because it does seem cruel, though I understand why it is legal.
Dog fighting serves no purpose but to torture innocent creatures who are unable to choose, just for the barbaric entertainment of it. These animals are not evil when they are born, they are trained to be fighters. Boxers have a choice, UFL have a choice, Hunters have a balance to keep, Dog Fighters are scum and abuse innocent creatures. It’s my opinion and it apparently is main stream America’s opinion too, because it stirs us to the deepest core and thus it’s illegal.
Why do we seem to care more about dogs than humans? It’s an interesting question, the bottom line is, we do, so get over it. It is almost always a fact. Think about this: in action films, humans are killed left and right, yet rarely does it invoke a tear or strong reaction; however, think of “Old Yeller”…when the dog is put down, even for it’s own good in this case, there isn’t a dry eye in the place. It is what it is. Dogs are protected by us, worshiped by some cultures, it’s a reality that MV doesn’t get. It is clear now that he is not capable of making sound choices, on or off the field, because he’s been given NUMEROUS chances. Humans are generally forgiving for a bad choice, but it’s ridiculous to expect people to forgive you over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Expecting different results with the same pattern is insane. Quit making excuses, the man has no character traits worthy of leadership and honor.

I have had it with the report on Micheal Vick, animal lovers get a life. Micheal Vick is a successful young black man that scare the hell out of white people, all of this is a racist thing. Nancy Grace is about to bust with wanting to say another black man is on her list. Come on black americans rally behind Mike and don’t let the white man bring another brother down. Animals lovers what about all the young black men dying I don’t see you all coming to their defense as usual you are saying a dog life is more important than a black man we see slavery still hasn’t ended. I am not afraid to point out what this is all about, to bad the white folks can’t do the same. Micheal hold your head up high and still be my hero

OMG … I knew this would turn into a race issue… I’m black and I do support Michael not for his color but because I truly belive a man is INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE !!!! I also supported the boys at Duke for the same reason. Now I will critize the action for those who have been found guilty of doing wrong be it black, white, green or orange.. So all those who want to sack Vick wait until All the facts are heard, so far we have only heard one side. Those who are so offended that he gave the Bird to a “fan”, who was not saying words you would find in the bible, give me a break. I bet when someone cuts you off on the freeway you probaly don’t say nothing but positive things right … lol … hypocrites Now far as the weed bottle thing.. did they find any weed??? By the way how come weed is illegal but alcohol and ciggerates are not. More ppl die from those two then any thing… Weed on a plane or alcohol on a drive ???? Julie B. Williams, every word you say is wrapped so clearly around only one defense, “he is black”. You are an insult to every black person I’ve ever known. By definition you are clearly a racist. Race is not a defense or a ticket to honor. Character and choices make a person honorable. Pull your head out and smell the karma, MV has been given more chances than any other pro athlete ever has. Even if he is found innocent of knowing that dog fighting took place on the property he has owned and visited for 6 years (by the way, would you know!?!?!), he still has made countless mistakes and been forgiven over and over. Enough is enough. Fool me once, shame on me…fool me twice, shame on you…fool me 6, 7, 8 times, you are a complete idiot who is undeserving to be the face of a diverse city like Atlanta. Some of my best friends are black and when I read to them what you wrote, they said you were the sort of black who makes them sick to their stomach. Enjoy the hell you must certainly live in, for to you, everything is about race. Bad choices aren’t about race, bad choices are about character. MV has been given more chances than any of us ever would. Reap what you sow. May God bless your sick heart.

Like MLK said, “they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” This issue has nothing to do with race. This has to do with the content of his character. Ron Mexico, “secret compartment water-bottle”, shooting double birds to fans (black, white and children) at a game. Look at his character. . He has shown this community that he has horrible character traits. What positive steps has this man taken in the last year of his life? What has he done to improve the quality of life of those around him? What has he done to show that he is a worthy role model to young children and to the black community? This has absolutely NOTHING to do with race. You reap what you sow.

Another word from Texas, in this case in response to London. I know in my case this situation has nothing to do with race. I grew up the Old South version of Atlanta, and since my college years have been opposed to racism in any form, and I taught my kids to oppose racism. This situation is instead about the inhumane treatment of animals, and I also oppose that in any form, no matter the color of the person engaged in that practice. Here in Texas the “good ole boys” sometimes have what are called “coon kills” which means placing a racoon in a barrel that is lying on the ground and then giving your coon dogs a chance to kill the cornered animal. Some fun! This disgusts me fully as much as dog fighting and race has nothing to do with it. Michael Vick, despite many “second” chances, has proved himself to be a person of no character and whatever his color he does not deserve to the leader of the Falcons or a role model for young people. If our young people grow up to be like this Mike, may God have mercy on this wonderful land of ours.

LONDON- If you are a professional athlete you handle the criticism of the fans. Essentially, they write your paycheck. Write a blog- don’t shoot a bird when children are around. As for the “weed” bottle, do you seriously believe that nothing was found in the bottle? Do you remember that the video tape magically disappeared when, by law, the airport was supposed to keep it on file for press review?
True, you are innocent until proven guilty. However, when the feds nab you and name you over 40 times in an indictment, chances are, you aren’t squeaky clean.
It is illegal to drink and drive so that point was useless. Smoking tobacco doesn’t alter one’s mental state. Alcohol does, yes, however the law is the law. Obviously, you believe that weed should be legal. Write your congressman.

So are all of you “innocent until proven guilty” clowns standing up and cheering every one of Barry Bond’s home runs? I suppose the ONLY thing Al Capone did wrong was cheat on his taxes since that’s all he was convicted of. O.J. Simpson didn’t do anything wrong either, I guess.
The rules of evidence may prevent a conviction here too, but when you have 75 pit bulls, bloody fighting rings, and mutilated dog corpses in your back yard, you’re not exactly immune from prosecution in the court of public opinion.

Michael Vick is an excellent reason not to ban the N word. There is no worse word and since M. Vick is a torturer and murderer he should be refered to only as N.
I am amazed that all the African American leaders that called for Don Imus’s head are so quiet when an African American is indicted for murder and torture. Don Imus, a white man who has done a lot of good for society commits the malfaction of calling some Afican American women a name they did not deserve to be called and looses his job. Jesse Jackson, Rev Sharpton and many others rally to punish Mr. Imus.
Mike Vick has done little or no good for society, gets indited for murder and torture and they are silent. Shame on them.
As an athlete Mr. Vick deserves not more protection than the average citizen. The position he plays, quaterback require attributes that murders and torturers do not possess. This may be why he has been such a failure at his position. He obviously cannot control his rage, play by the rules, respect others, act with diginity, respect other living creatures, manage his self absorption and that is why he is a loser. Wake up Falcons, wake up NFL, subhumans like Vick don’t win rings they are too flawed to lead.
Hopfully all of Vick’s money will not save him from 6 years in jail and he will be caught in the cycle of what goes around comes around. When acting out all his rage against the dogs, do you think he ever raped any of them?

While I believe in ‘Innocent until Proven Guilty’, that does not mean that a person cannot have an opinion based on the evidence presented so far.
From the information put forth so far, it is clearly evident that dog fighting was occurring on the property in Virginia. Now, the question is did M. Vick know about it or participate in it? That is less certain and we are all waiting to hear the final evidence for or against that. What I have not heard is anyone on Michael Vick’s side claiming that he didn’t know or didn’t participate. If I owned property that someone used for this kind of illegal activity, I would be out in front of the cameras denouncing them and angry that they took advantage of my good will in letting them use my property.
Having not seen that kind of reaction from Vick, it seems to be pretty likely that he did know what was happening and potentially was heavily involved.
Being a big star, I expect the government was pretty careful about their evidence before they indicted him since it will be pretty embarrassing for them if he walks away from this with no punishment.
I would be perfectly happy to find out that Michael Vick had nothing to do with all of this. It makes me sick to think of anyone doing this to their animals. Unfortunately, I fully expect the final outcome to be that he was involved and if so, I hope he gets an appropriately long sentence.

What I said ga tech92 is living in the south dogfighting is everywhere. But because MV is a young black man he is called a thug. His abilites got him on the Falcons team not his race. Judge him for his race not his color. Being black in the south you have to fight for what you want. Tell your black friends if it ever came down to them or us, we will always lose. You will turn your back on them if it means you will lose. For your information I am not a racist just a realist. I am a success because I fought to get it not kiss noone’s but.

Good grief, people, how easy it is for you to all start throwing the race card around here!!!! I don’t think almost ANY of the posts that have been derogatory of Vick have ANYTHING to do with the color of his skin! What he is alleged to have done is barbaric beyond belief. I couldn’t care if he were polka dotted or purple-when you decide that you are too important to conform to the basic set of morals that many of us have instilled in us from a young age, or worse, you think you don’t have to, then hell have mercy on your soul. For those trying to press the issue that the white public was just looking to tear him down, he sure gave everyone a lot of ammunition didn’t he? I guess Russell Simmons and Rev. Sharpton are now white since they have spoken out against him this week, too. America is a country that likes stories of people making it- whether they are athletes from awful situations, entertainers or entrepreneurs we embrace those people and hold them up as examples to others. I make no apologies, nor should anyone think I owe one for expecting more out of Michael Vick than he has shown existing in the content of his character. He was blessed with the ability to do what many only dream of doing- live the American Dream with the talent he was blessed with. Too much money for what he is doing, but we are a sports crazed culture. In the end if this all comes crashing down upon his head, what a tremendous and sad fool Vick has been to throw the gift he was given away. The poster child for what happens to you when you surround yourself with bad influences. Shame on the Falcons for enabling this for so long!

If this was not Vick it would not be getting this kind of attention.
OK I am a Vet Tech in Metro ATL. And an American Pit Bull Terrier owner. Oh and also “Pit Bull” is not a breed in itself. It is a generic term describing many breed.
And what is funny to me is the media hype surrounding this just because it is Vick. And the items found on his property. An electric treadmill, a breeding stand(rape stand media’s way of making sound horrible)Well just to let ya’ll know I have a treadmill, breaking stick, spring pole. Why because I show my dogs with the ADBA and UKC. It conditions my dogs for show. Just because you have those items does not make you a fighter. A rape stand is used my many breeders of many different breeds.
Also I am tired of ppl saying that “Pit Bulls” are monsters. You ask 100 Veterinary Professionals and I guaranty that 99 say that “Pit Bulls” are very loving and stable pets. And that there are other more human aggressive breeds, ie… Cockers, Chows. Also I suggest you look at the American Temperment test www.atts.org and look that “pit bulls” scored higher than labs, goldens, and many other “family dogs”.
Also do not believe that HSUS on what dog fighters do. They are to blame for all the idiots that think they know how to fight APBT. The reason why they listed all these things that dog fighters do such as bait dogs (lol) and feeding gun powder to make them mean.
Well ppl that is not true. When fighting was legal you would NEVER see a dogman use a bait dog. Why because how can you train an APBT to fight if the other dog does not. It is like throwing me in with Tyson. You need competion to make you a better fighter.
Also “pit bulls” are very stable dogs. Why because they were bred for a specific task (fighting) and because of that they were bred to be ppl friendly. Because in the pit they had to know the difference from ppl and the other dog.
Also some postive stuff we irresponsible pit bull owners do. A Cancer benefit dog show. My dogs are in this news story. The blue one with his face all in the camera and the red one right after that.

But I do realize this breed and it’s history
Also Petey from the little rascals was a fighting dog. Just a side note. And look he was truted with kids.
Why back then they were bred for a specific task. And any HA was not tolerated.
Today it is not like that. People breed unresponsibly. That is the reason we have all these unstable dogs.

If Mr. Michael Vick is guilty of promoting dogfighting, illegal gambling, and cruelty to animals, then he should go to jail, go directly to jail, and not pass football and not collect however many million dollars.
I don’t care if he’s a star quarterback or a janitor, a CEO or a pimp; if you do the crime, you should do the time. There should be no discussion of leave with pay or playing football ever again. Also yes If he is found guilty then yes he should do time. Because he broke the law.
But to convict him without hearing all the facts is wrong.

More so than Falcon fans and dog lovers, such as myself, I think Vick has let down a generation of young Africa-American athletes as a role model. Now every young African-American wearing a # 7 jersey with just one minor infraction will be second guessed as a thug. It is a heavy cross to bear Mr. Vick but there are hundreds of young athletes of all races who idolize professionals such as yourself. Mr. Vick you owe it to those young men who want to follow in your footsteps whether you like it or not. You can’t show up at charity events and be an idol then act unresponsibly the moment you step out the door. It is time to grow up.

Dogs, like other animals, act according to instinct. Only humans have the ability to rationally overrule nature instinctively and do unnatural acts.
Perhaps, Mr. Badie…. There is no PERHAPS to it. Only humans can reason pleasure in committing “crimes against nature”.
Sadly, all dogs do, in their natural inability, “show evidence of moral and intellectual advancement” to humans.
Probably a good thing the dogs cannot hold trials akin to Nuremberg.

I am sorry if you respected him for his talents, because the inside word is that he will given an entire year off with pay to devote attention to his legal problems, but if your defending im because he is black—-well thats why some people will never get ahead in life.

I don’t know why all the Vick-Haters are jumping with glee. Didn’t you all accuse the Feds of being bought off when there was no marijuana found in the infamous water bottle incident? You can’t have it both ways. Either the Feds are good or bad, not both. Why are you happy now if you think that was truly the case then? HYPOCRITES!!! Now the Feds are gonna really put it to Vick. Just pay them off again, Mike. No many how many times you’re found innocent of a crime as a black man, you’ll still be considered a criminal in white America. There are thousands of white “OJ’s” walking our streets everyday that were found innocent of killing blacks by their peers in Simi Valley, Arizon, and every state in the South. Where was your outrage then, white America? Shut up about OJ because he is the 1 black man (hint, we don’t even consider his Uncle Tom @ss to be black anyway) that has gotten away with what some of your daddies, uncles, grandfathers and others have gotten away with for years. There are even pictures of some of you floating around the internet in your grandfather’s arms celebrating the lynching/killing of innocent black men.

But then NFL defenses figured him out and now he is a pitiful excuse for a pro QB. King Arthur needs his head examined for giving a gangsta-thug a long term lucrative deal. Some of you folks are fools. To say that this is a “white trash” or “rap” only phenomenon are all whistling past the graveyard. At one time it was a rural, “redneck” activity (I won’t call it a sport) but it is now seen as some sort of show of manhood in the urban rap community to own and fight dogs that are considered to be hyper-aggressive and dangerous (only if trained to be so).
To those who say Vick is “innocent until proven guilty” I will agree that to the letter of the law he stands accused but not convicted at this point. However he is guilty, 100%, of owning a property that was outfitted as a cross-state dog fighting enterprise where multiple corpses of brutally executed pit bulls were exhumed. If you really believe he was 100% ignorant of these activities then you would have to be one of the most naive people on the planet.
I think Blank needs to suspend him until such time as he is likely convicted or pleads out and then the contract can be voided. If he is acquitted then he should be traded or released with extreme haste.

How about we all just agree that Mike Vick has been a huge disappointment to the Falcons….Why is a quarterback who has had only one successful season still considered a star? Black or white, he needs to go because he is lazy and does not prepare properly for games. Do you really think Peyton Manning is a better athlete than Vick? Why does Manning win, because he spends his time working hard to be good, not torturing animals. Vick is an embarassment to African Americans, the people of Atlanta, and the Falcons. I have four rescued dogs that I love, I cannot support the Falcons with Vick on the team, just his behavior and losing record before this was enough to get rid of him; the dog fighting is just the last straw. It is unforgiveable. By the way, to address the people on this board who feel that all white want to bring him down because he is black, I am white female member of the NAACP. I realize we still have problems in this country, but Vick is not being punished for being black, he is being punished for being a jerk.

jc_atl you started to hit on my point exactly.
yancyb and all of the other “innocent until proven guilty” crowd,
I supported Mike Vick strongly for a long time. When his brother was getting into trouble and people wanted to lump them together, I said that it seemed like Mike was trying to set him on a better path. When he flipped off the fans, I said “wouldn’t you want to as well?” It was a poor, but understandable decision. I have numerous times said to some of my own family members that I felt they were too critical of him simply because he is black and wears an earring. I went through the same issues with some people not wanting to support D.J. Shockley at UGA. I enjoyed my “I told you sos” when he won an SEC title, graduated with a high GPA in a real major, and proved himself to be a very good man. I wish he ready to be a quarterback in the NFL now so this mess could be solved. By the way, if he does ever become the starting quarterback, we won’t be having these discussions, because he would never be involved with criminal activity and horendous treatment of animals or people. However, my support of Mike Vick is emphatically OVER! There are a few things that are FACTS! He owned the property, the people living there did not have the money to pay for anything (mostly unemployed) so MV was financing anything going on there, and the name of the business he was supporting was “Bad Newz Kennels.” Does that sound like a simple breeding company name to you? I would like to see other evidence, including any flight records to see how often Vick was in town, but just the facts we have now say to me that either he is quilty of at least knowing what was going on and supporting it, or he is the least intelligent, most naive man on the planet. So, IMO, he is either a sick, barbaric, potential sociopath, or he is entirely too stupid to be a quarterback in the NFL, or both.

Watch Mike Vick turn out like another Mike……that would be Mike Tyson……Vick will spend time in jail, try to make a come back, then will fade away……
His will be a sad story…….but will parallel Tyson’s life, another guy who was out there abusing and finally his Karma caught up, and he eventually got his.
The sad part is what the Falcon’s have passed up to get Vick, that would be the best running back ever, and the over all shame it will bring to the organization, and to our city of Atlanta.

PETA Kills Far More Animals than Michael Vick (7/20/07)
Body Count For Animal “Rights” Group Reaches 14,479; Group Has Walk-In Freezer For Dead Puppies
WASHINGTON — While People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) protests the National Football League today over Michael Vick’s dog-fighting indictment, the animal “rights” group is ignoring its own sordid puppy-killing operation, the Center for Consumer Freedom said today. Public records released by the State of Virginia show that PETA itself has killed 14,479 dogs and cats since 1998, including 90 percent of the animals it took in for “adoption” in 2005. And PETA is presently more than 3 months overdue to report its 2007 numbers. “It’s astonishing but true,” said Center for Consumer Freedom Director of Research David Martosko. “PETA itself kills helpless, adoptable animals by the thousands out of sheer inconvenience. Why anyone continues to take this bunch of hypocrites seriously is beyond me.”
Documents relating to PETA’s massive animal-killing program can be found on the Internet at www.PETAkillsAnimals.com. In sworn testimony during the January 2007 animal-cruelty trial of two PETA employees, a PETA manager acknowledged that the organization has a walk-in freezer for the purpose of storing dead pets. She also acknowledged that PETA contracts with a Norfolk-area crematory service to dispose of the dead bodies, which measure over a ton each month.
Martosko continued: “PETA’s president acknowledges that her group could ‘become a no-kill shelter overnight.’ But that would mean the group could no longer afford to spend millions of dollars on cheap publicity stunts, to say nothing of harassing pet food companies, restaurants, and medical researchers.”
Another PETA employee faces grand larceny charges in southern Virginia, related to the alleged 2006 theft of a hunting dog and its radio-tracking collar. PETA has not yet indicated whether the dog in question was slated to be put to death.

A few years back the Baltimore Crows all pro linebacker Ray Lewis attended a Super Bowl party in Buckhead, got into a fight, and two people were killed. He didn’t miss a down. There was no punishment from the NFL. Why should Mike Vick be punished more for whatever he did to a pit bull? Last night I killed a cockroach. Squirted him with Raid and flushed him down the commode. What’t the difference between a pit bull and a cockroach? Cockroaches don’t attack and kill cats, small dogs, kids, old people, etc. I’ll take a cockroach over a pit bull any day. If I wanted to get mad at Mike Vick, it would be for giving that poor girl herpes. Wait a few weeks and this whole thing will blow over and all the Do Gooders will find something else to Do Good about.

Rick, my efforts to become a vegetarian stalled with the continued consumption of fish and chicken. When reminiscing, my wife tells me of the fish she used to clean on the back porch as a young girl in Southeast Georgia. She would promptly toss the decapitated heads of fish to stray cats which had been attracted by the smell.
One Saturday morning while shopping at the Dekalb County Farmers Market, I asked my wife, Patricia, to show me the fish that she grew tired of cleaning practically every Friday night. We turned a corner and made a right turn. There they were in the show case on ice. Tens of fish were positioned in a single line appearing to be duplicates, obviously dead, with bulging eyes. Something internal happened to me that day. That image influenced me beyond any other. No more fish and chicken for me, I declared. I’m a vegetarian for life.
It is alleged that Michael Vick participated in dog fighting which ultimately resulted in the death of some dogs. Although dog fighting is illegal, the act may not be as horrible, brutal, and inhuman as some believe. Chicken, fish, cows, hogs etc are often legally raised to be slaughtered, packaged, and put in a show case for human consumption.
Rick, we all turn corners and make right turns during our lifetimes in one way or another. I hope something internal, a change, has occurred with respect to Michael Vick. The image of seeing a super-star put in a show case for human consumption by friends and enemies should influence others, especially black men, that serious thinking to determine self preservation is required before taking action.

The Thin Guy,
Ray Lewis should also have been banned from the NFL for is continuing scrapes with the law. The NFL shouldn’t be looking for athletes whose claim to innocence is like Bill Murray and Harold Ramis in Stripes: “Convicted? No.” If you are continuously under suspicion of breaking the law, there’s probably smoke where there’s fire. In Vick’s case, if the allegations are even sort of true, it points not to a lapse in judgment on one particular occasion, but a premeditated effort to create a criminal enterprise involved in breeding and gambling on illegal dog fighting, an enterprise that apparently as spanned for 6 years. As has been mentioned he owned the property and of the 4 indicted, he was the only one with a paycheck large enough to fund such an enterprise.
You can keep looking for ways to explain away his behavior but until Vick himself steps up to the microphone and says “these allegations are 100% false”, I’m not inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I do feel bad for him - a life with so much potential thrown away for what? At best let’s hope there are college athletes out there dreaming of a career in the NFL who will make better decisions when the big money starts rolling in. Would you rather wind up in the hall of shame or the Hall of Fame?

I admit, I quit reading this one when Badie wrote that the woman didn’t care if the Falcons didn’t have a winning season in the event Vick is disallowed from play. Reason being, Vick hasn’t had a winning season for a couple seasons in a row. I will make this bet: If Vick is disallowed from play, the Falcons will have a winning season BECAUSE Vick is not playing. He is the guy preventing the Falcons from winning and this has been going on for two years now.

For Moe and ChrisD.
Its people like you who make this a racial issue. I will start with Moe. For your information black leaders are out when blacks are in the wrong. In the case of Imus you seem to make this a non-issue by saying “some African American girls”. These were not some African American girls. They were American girls (not born in Africa, are you called Endo European American),that are highly educated and obviously more class than most people who are blogging on this issue. If you ever look at AMW on Saturday night you will see Sharpton and others trying to find killers that we know are guilty but to say Vick was guilty because of witnesses that are behind bars. If I was behind bars I would say anything to get my freedom back. If Vick is guilty then let him get what he deserves but lets say he is innocent. Enough on your blog Moe because at least you are not the fool that ChrisD is. Evidently ChrisD has never made his comments in front of a black person or a sane white person because I can insure you that his A* would have been socked. No violence is the answer to everything. Before stating “facts” make sure you have the facts. I am black and my parents were married. I am a college grad and I fight so people like you can write on these and other blogs. I may have misspelled some words or may have used incorrect grammar but at the end of the day I am confident in my education versus the education of one who is clearly a racist such as ChrisD. If you dont believe in my education how about asking some of the Generals that have applauded me and given me high praise for my intellect. But they are not children, they are dogs. Let’s wait for the facts to come out. I have read where there were 6 dogs buried on the property. Well, currently I have 4 dogs buried on my property and none of them died from fighting. Instead of putting them in some kind of pet mausoleum, I did what normal people did when I was growing up, and buried them in my yard. I have heard the allegations, but I would like to see some facts and some evidence, and then I can make up my mind. Chew on this: more than 95% of federal indictments lead to convictions. The feds do not bring a case unless they feel confident that they will win. This is not some backwoods overzealous DA (Duke) trying to win reelection. This is the feds. Of course now the state is getting in on the action but the feds are leading the way with less than a 5% losing record.

For the one’s saying they won’t shop at Home Depot….don’t tell us..just don’t go. You don’t need our approval. There will be more items for the rest of us to buy. You’re probably from some other city anyway. FINALLY The one’s that feel the need to use the name calling in your messages…..need to check yourself. You walk around day to day being the perfect one in everyone’s view with all these’s lowdown thoughts in your heads. As soon as you are alone on these blogs the true you come out. That’s known as undercover racism. Racism is learned behavior and not genetic. Let’s discuss our feelings and emotions on this blog without all the negative character…Because it don’t make you better that the person you are trying to put down. Remember we all will go through the trials and tribulations of life. Your day could come sooner than later and you would want to have your day in court. We have seen what’s behind us, but we don’t see the future coming. I’m not an animal lover, but I don’t beleive they should be harmed unless you are defending your life against them. First of all, there were 66 dogs chained on his property. He had to know what was going on even if he did not participate, which is just as bad. The problem with the whole Vick situation is a problem that is not new to America. America has always had a ‘guilty until proven innocent’ attitude towards all blacks. America excluded blacks from athletics, and then when that exclusion was nullified and many blacks began to make millions and simply dominate every sport (i.e.-Vick), some white, Americans became jealous. It just amazes me that the more things change; the more they stay the same. I almost vomited when I heard members of the government actually speak out on this incident. I almost vomited for two reasons. One, our politicians should be more concerned and more passionate about ending that mess of a war in Iraq than with the situation with Vick. The second reason I almost vomited was because of the way America has always cared more about animals than about black people. It makes me sick that this country stereotypes young, black, men as thugs because of braids, because of tattoos, or because of the hip hop dress. In this country, anything that goes against, mainly conservative, white, America is a threat. It is attacked and destroyed. The black fans will continue to support Vick. The black fans have the common sense to know that braids, tattoos, and the way a person dresses does not make that person a thug. The black fans feel that Vick is ‘innocent until proven guilty’. We also know, in this country, if you happen to be black, you may still be innocent even if you were proven guilty. Justice in America truly is colorblind. When she wears her mask and she holds the scales, the only guilty color she can see is black!

In response to: By Michael July 22, 2007 2:27 PM…..Dear Sir, are you delusional? I understand that justice in this country is not color blind, but neither should the African-American community be. White people (myself included) would be yelling just as loud if Vick was white. The hair braids, tats, hip-hop cloths are not the reason why people (many blacks included) think Vick is a loser and a disgrace. We have this opinion because of his behavior: flipping fans off, spreading herpes, the waterbottle incident…now dog fighting. There are many high profile athletes black and white that live their life and never find themselves constantly receiving negative attention. If this were a first offense I could understand wanting to believe in him, but it is not, far from it. Just because he is black and in trouble does not mean it is a conspiracy. I understand this is a tough subject, many young black men are targeted by police simply because they are black, but I refuse to accept that the African-American community cannot see that this is not the case with Vick.

blah blah blah….
the facts are:
blacks will support blacks no matter what
blacks will not support whites no matter what
whites will support whites if they deserve support
whites will support blacks if the deserve support(and sometimes just to avoid appearing racist)
it is time for whites to stop apologizing for slavery and hold black people responsible for their actions

Where are the PETA people marching to protest against the war in Iraq, where THOUSANDS of our young men and women have been killed and horribly maimed since the war began? Where is the justice in that? If half those folks had even come out in protest when it was clear we had no business fighting over there, maybe we’d be out by now, and our young, HUMAN soldiers would still be alive. Oh, I know, maybe we should have sent pit bulls to fight the war instead.

Michael:
Please, read your ranting remarks.
You are a black racist calling whites racist. Slow down and smell the roses. Everything you say about the black person and their dress etc. is exactly true. Most young black dress like goons, bafoons and thugs and expect the majority to accept their silly culture. This will never happen regardless of how racist it seems to you. It is not racist, just plain common sense would normally tell someone how out of touch they look, but not in your culture, you love it. The worse they look the more attention they garner and the happier they seem.
Look around at some your bro’s and tell me that their dress fits any society but the thug culture. Oops you can’t do that, you are blind with racism. You may need medical help.

Liberty bell there is a big difference, those soldiers volunteered to die for bush’s ego war. If there was a draft and Little Johnny may go then the marches would begin.
This column is for racists can have a field day and hang (an old Southern custom) a person before he is even found guilty.

What was Saddam guilty of? I forget. Please think of all the innocent Iraqis who have lost their lives due to American “justice”.
Want to do something useful rather than make stupid statements? How about asking Bush to bring the troops home and use them to scour America kill every stinking person in the country that abuses animals. Start with Vick……boooooyah IT’S WAR

LOL first of all. to the people that say Pit Bulls should be wiped out. Pit Bull is not a breed. Check the facts. And that they attack small children.
I am a Vet Tech and there are more human aggressive dogs out there. Check the American Tempermant test site. www.atts.org and all yout family dogs scored less. Again I say check your facts. Instead of sounding ignorant and uneducated.
Also to having the dogs chained on the property. Well chaining is more humane than sitting in a kennel all day.
And as far as forcing them to fight well they do not force them to do anything. And also real dogmen do not fight to the death. Again lies sprewed out from the Humane Society of America. Along with bait dogs. Which inturned got all the idiots to think that that is how you fight your dogs.
This sport was legal until 1976. And when these dogs were in the hands of dogmen you never heard anything about them in the news. Hell they were America’s dogs. On the cover of Life Magazine, Petey from Our Gang, the RCA mascot, Buster Brown shoes mascot. ALl while fighting was legal and some were fighting dogs.
Again ppl check your facts

I feel so bad for the referee who has been indicted for “fixing” NBA games.
He’s only being harassed because he’s WHITE!
It’s all about keeping the white man down in a predominantly black sport!!
It’s RACIST I tell ya! It’s RACIST!!

I am not a member of PETA or any other animal rights group. I don’t need to be to know that anyone who engages in this disgusting activity of dogfighting for profit or entertainment is nothing more than a perverse, immoral sadist who is not worthy of the respect or support of a decent society. Vick should be shunned by every man, woman, child and corporation with a conscience. Get him out of the NFL and off of our television screens.

How could the Falcons possibly keep him? We are not going to forget. He’s a greedy, sociopathic, low-life. Not only that, it has sadly worsened race relations.

There is a lot of injustice in the world. What is being addressed in this blog is Vick’s participation in the inhumane treatment of animals. This is not a “one size fits all”. One would think by some of these comments that all blacks defend Sick Vick and all whites want to lynch him because he’s black. Stop changing the subject and think about THIS crime or go to another blog.

I find it funny that people want to deal with race everytime a person of color is in trouble. By the way cops and teacher have been put on leave until the proof of innocence or guilt. Why should your darling QB have options. Suspended with pay… I think the poor little darling can feed his family. Yes by the way the allegation if true are very very sick.. But go bow down to your GODS called pro sport figures.. You people are idiots just like your other GOD Clinton Portis. For you black bigots.. I will call the names you will respond to me with I am a racist ETC ETC I am a bubba from the south ETC ETC. Never live in the south… Also, If this was Tom pretty boy Brady my opinon would be the same so shut up

Wilcox, You would probably defend murderers and rapists as long as they are black. Michael Vick is Sick and so are you, and I am sick of your type as I am sure most people of color are. Some of us actually want to get along. And Cynthia, read the indictment if it’s not too over your head.

hedidit you’re a typical ignorant Southern redneck, I am white, but proud to defend everyones and anyones constutition rights. You on the other hand rather convict someone who’s main accuser is presently serving time. The credibility of the star witness is in question, but why let facts get in the way.
You care about justice so much, what about Libby getting a free ride after being convicted and sentenced by bush? I guess being a hypocrite doesn’t bother you?

The State of Georgia has about the weakest law against this type dog fighting in the entire country, how many that commented here ever contacted their state Rep or Senator on the issue?
Dog on hog fighting is okay, bet it wouldn’t be if Vick was involved, most of you are so transparent it’s sickening.

LOL Bruce you simple mided person you. I know what the indictment says. LOL I am not defending him. I am so tired of the media reporting incorrect facts. And trying to blow simple things out of context.
Shoot I have some of those tings. I show my dogs and use them to condition my dogs. So ppl get your facts straight.

Wilcox, you have no idea what my political views are, so keep your hate to yourself. I’m not CONVICTING anyone. That’s for the Courts to do. I am entitled to my opinion, Mr. defender of Constitutional rights. And Cynthia, hopefully your dogs won’t attack you in your sleep. Some of us actually love our dogs and are kind to them. It is tragic that you actually work for a Vet. Do tell, what is his name?

Stop the nonsence of race card #1 and #2 innocent until proven guilty- if Vick was even in a remote way innocent he would have proclaimed his innocence in one way or another (as did the Duke players) not remain as mute as a plant - His silence SPeAKS louder than any words- he is silent bacause his guilt bleeds from the accusations as did the blood from those tortured animals - it is sad that this is a racial issue and that those defending Vick will sadly continue to defend him even after his guiult is proven in court - possibly he was set up or was only persecuted wealthy black man - watch this will happen - it is not a rougue prosecuter (like the Duke case) - it is the Feds and they wont waste time without indisputable evidence - they will bury Vick as time will prove shortly - and many blacks will continue his support , but with a new pathetic battle cry - if I was black, I would actually be more outraged at this man- Vick has betrayed all his fans and will forever be an embarrassment to the NFL and the black community - Russell Simmons spoke eloquently to this issues - far from support of MV- I wish all blacks supporting Vick could hear his take -and open your eyes and realize - We dont HAVE TO support this piece of crap human being!!!! - so in conclusion please stop stating race card or dropping “innocent until guilty”, so I can in turn stop smashing my head against the F’in WALL !!!!!!!!!!
