The Red & Black, the University of Georgia’s student newspaper, has won a top investigative prize for its coverage of faculty sexual harassment.

The Investigative Reporters and Editors on Tuesday announced that the publication took first place in its student division. The Red & Black joined other news organizations, such as CBS’s “60 Minutes” and National Public Radio, in taking top honors.

IRE judges cited Red & Black reporters Kristen Coulter, Brian Hughes, Carolyn Crist, Matthew Grayson and Melissa Weinman for their coverage of faculty sexual harassment of students. An anonymous tip led the reporters to chronicle incidents of harassment, some dating back two decades.

The university now requires anti-harassment training for faculty and administrators. The IRE, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1975. It will hand out awards at a conference June 13 in Baltimore.
