WHAT IS IT?

Georgia State University’s Freshman Hall will be a 79,500-square-foot dormitory with a 325-seat dining area at Edgewood Avenue and Piedmont Road. The facility will contain 330 beds in single- and double-occupancy rooms, and laundry and mail facilities. Each floor will have a lounge area. The approximate cost is $17.4 million.

WHAT IMPACT WILL IT HAVE?

The project will expand student life downtown, which downtown advocates say is key to making Atlanta’s core more vibrant. GSU estimates enrollment in 2015 will be 36,000 students, with 7,200 of them living in university housing. The school now has nearly 2,000 beds at University Commons, which opened last year, and 450 beds at University Lofts.

WHEN WILL IT BE DONE?

Scheduled completion is July.
