OBITUARIES: TUCKER: Michael ‘Kyle’ Davis, 25, fought his disability

Doctors told Mary Ann Davis her infant son wouldn’t live more than three days. Michael Davis defied that prediction. He made it to his mid-20s.

“He was tough, a tough cookie,” said Mrs. Davis of Tucker. “When he was born, the doctors could never really pinpoint what, exactly, he had. He suffered from cerebral palsy, a little bit of autism, and scoliosis.”

Michael “Kyle” Davis, 25, of Tucker died Thursday from complications due to bacterial endocarditis at Hospice Atlanta.

The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stone Mountain chapel of Wages & Sons Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements.

Mr. Davis attended two special-needs schools in DeKalb County —- the Heritage Center and Margaret Harris High. When he reached adulthood, his mother enrolled him in a day program at the DeKalb Services Center.

Mr. Davis was confined to a wheelchair, couldn’t talk and had poor hearing, but he could detect sound in his right ear.

Though Mr. Davis had limited abilities, he liked music, colors and people with long hair. Glasses intrigued him.

“If you had on glasses, he’d try to snatch your glasses off,” his mother said. “And he would give you these pirate smiles. He was sweet.”

Also surviving is his grandmother, Dolores Henry of Tucker.
