UPDATE: BUCKHEAD

Pocked pavement badly in need of paving, repair

On Monday we told you about the plight of two Buckhead side streets —- Rivers Road and Muscogee Avenue —- that could use a little love.

The two short Peachtree Battle-area streets wind past some of Atlanta’s grandest homes. John Rieser lives on Rivers Road and says he doesn’t think the streets have been repaved since they were originally installed, maybe 80 years ago.

“They’re uneven and full of potholes, patches and patches-on-patches,” Rieser wrote in an e-mail to Take to Task.

Task called Atlanta Department of Public Works spokeswoman Valerie Bell-Smith last Friday, and she said she’d look into the situation. When we checked with Bell-Smith this week, she said she hoped to have an update for us in the next day or two.

UPDATE: SANDY SPRINGS

Utilities, permits delay fix

Atlanta Department of Watershed Management spokeswoman Janet Ward said last week that her department can’t yet repair a water leak in the middle of the busy intersection of Abernathy and Brandon Mill roads.

She said the department was still working to verify the location of buried utilities and secure appropriate permits from the city of Sandy Springs. She couldn’t say when work would start and Task was unable to reach Ward on Tuesday for an update.

Take to Task will keep an eye on things and advise when work begins.

UPDATE: BUCKHEAD

Lenox Road work drags on

Crews continue work this week to restore the roadway on the Lenox Road MARTA overpass so that metal plates that have been there for more than six years can be removed.

Atlanta Department of Public Works spokeswoman Valerie Bell-Smith said workers have found much more deteriorated roadway than was expected. As a result, she said, repair work will continue through Friday.

Count on Take to Task to keep an eye on progress.
