ATLANTA
Toilet rebates flow; glitch caused clog
More than 500 Atlanta water users who installed low-flow toilets in their homes should get their rebates in their next bill, city officials said.
Watershed Management Department spokeswoman Janet Ward said a computer glitch caused a delay in approving the $100 rebates. Some users said they’ve been waiting since March for their rebates.
COBB COUNTY
Soccer site to bear name of land donor
The county’s newest soccer complex will be named for O.C. Hubert, who donated the 34 acres in 1975. One of the founders of the Cobb Board of Realtors and a former president of what was then the Atlanta Civic Opera Company, Hubert died in 1986. The four lighted fields are on Cobb Parkway just south of Mars Hill Road. The Cobb County Commission officially votes on the designation Tuesday.

Johns Creek police study buying Tasers
Johns Creek police are studying whether to buy Tasers, devices that briefly stun people with an electric shock.
Advocates say Tasers give police a third option beyond deadly force and fist-fighting. But some people have died after being shot with a Taser, and opponents say they can be unsafe. The issue will be brought before the City Council sometime in September.
GWINNETT COUNTY
Building 911 center to start next month
Construction of a state-of-the-art E-911 communications and emergency operations center for Gwinnett County police is expected to start next month and be completed by early 2010. The 45,000-square-foot annex will adjoin police headquarters on Hi Hope Road in Lawrenceville.
