Campaign workers fanned out over the weekend to give motorists one last look at their candidates' names, compliments of compliant homeowners.

Teams of volunteers planted campaign signs in yards throughout the county, leaving the multi-colored ornaments to remind passersby of Tuesday's runoff election.

Campaign volunteer Tim Thornberry of Suwanee was in charge of coordinating door-to-door canvassing for District 1 County Commission candidate Shirley Lasseter. He said 2,300 18-by-24 inch yard signs and 100 4-by-4 foot signs were ordered for the campaign, and most of them have been used.

Thornberry said about 100 people worked for the campaign since it began, knocking on an estimated 4,800 doors in the district.

He said they plan to keep up their work right through the time polls close Tuesday, at 7 p.m. At 7:30 Tuesday evening, a group will begin removing all the signs, he said.

Robert Michener of Duluth spent the weekend checking off lists of neighborhoods he needed to visit as a volunteer for Bruce LeVell, another Republican candidate in the District 1 race. On Saturday, he drove a golf cart through River Run subdivision in Suwanee on Saturday, seeking permission to place signs in residents' front yards.

LeVell said the campaign has placed about 2,600 18-by-24 inch yard signs, along with larger 4-by-4 signs, throughout the district, with the locations mapped out so the signs can be removed after the runoff. LeVell said more than 100 volunteers have helped in his quest for the County Commission office.
