Heavy storms caused power, water and air travel problems across metro Atlanta Sunday.
Hundreds of travelers whose flights were canceled reportedly remained stranded late Sunday night at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
In good weather, the airport sees 120 flights per hour, but at one point Sunday, the rate was down to 78 per hour. Flights were also diverted to other airports when they couldn't land in Atlanta.
The storms eventually moved off, and things started improving. The FAA was reporting arrival delays of 15 minutes or less at 9 p.m., a vast improvement from delays of roughly 2 1/2 hours at 7:30 p.m. and more than three hours at 5 p.m.
About 3,000 metro Atlanta customers lost power as heavy showers and thunderstorms moved through.
Roughly 400 remained without electricity as of 9 p.m. Georgia Power spokesman Jeff Wilson predicted all would have their power restored by early today.
The downpour may have contributed to a pileup in East Point that killed a motorcyclist and injured three other people, one seriously.
The accident happened about noon on I-285 North when a vehicle rear-ended a slowed SUV, causing it to hydroplane into several out-of-state motocyclists who had stopped to put on rain gear, said East Point Detective Cliff Chandler.
East Point police are searching for the driver of the vehicle that rear-ended the SUV, Chandler said.
The forecast for today calls from highs in the upper 80s. The rest of the week will see temperatures in the high 90s and lows in the 60s.
