Gwinnett Opinions
WHAT DO YOU THINK?For the Journal-Constitution
Published on: 07/13/08
Each week Gwinnett Opinions asks readers to comment on a topic in the news. Today we feature response to the question: Do you support MARTA rail in Gwinnett?
Gwinnett County voters will decide at the polls on Tuesday whether they would pay a 1-cent sales tax to extend MARTA rail into Gwinnett. The vote is not binding. It is advisory only.
When the matter was on the ballot in 1990, seven out of 10 Gwinnett voters rejected a 1-cent sales tax to fund MARTA's expansion into the county.
Should MARTA rail extend to Gwinnett? Would you use MARTA rail?

Gwinnett will vote NO —- again
If MARTA is placed on the ballot for an up or down vote, it had better make a whole lot more financial sense than the last time it was on the ballot.
When I voted NO [in 1990], I did so because we would have paid the extra sales tax for YEARS before the first bus even crossed the county line. Unless that changes, you can count on me to vote NO.

MARTA brings problems
I am very much against extending MARTA to Gwinnett. The problems that came to Lenox Square and Perimeter malls will come to us.

MARTA no solution to traffic
Please do not allow MARTA into Gwinnett.
Gwinnett County cities with police departments have enough challenges without bringing MARTA into the picture.
Traffic is what it is. Deal with it or move.
