A crash involving a wrong-way driver killed three people and injured another early Saturday when the wrong-way driver slammed head-on into a vehicle with three occupants on I-20 near Douglasville.
The Georgia State Patrol had not released the names of those killed, which included that driver, as of Saturday evening.
The accident occurred about 1:45 a.m. The wrong-way driver was traveling west in the eastbound lane, said Officer David Mills, senior dispatcher for the Georgia State Patrol.
Mills described those killed in the wreck as a 22-year-old Douglasville woman, a 26-year-old Atlanta woman and a 41-year-old Mableton man.
Mills said he could not confirm who was driving the vehicles. One passenger survived the crash and was taken to Atlanta Medical Center. "The crash is still under investigation as to why the driver was driving the wrong way," said Mills. "Since the driver was killed in the accident, it may take a long time to determine that."
