COMMUNITY NOTES: Yard sale will aid breast cancer fight

Follow the pink signs to an Acworth yard sale this weekend benefiting the Breast Cancer Three-Day Walk in Atlanta in October.

The sale, featuring collectibles, antiques, furniture, books, linens, kids' stuff, and office, garden, sports and household items will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at 4510 Collins Ave. in Acworth. Participants in the 60-mile walk raise money toward finding a cure for breast cancer.

Farmers market open until Sept. 11

An annual summer farmers market is open through Sept. 11 at the Cobb and Douglas public health departments. The market operates Wednesdays at Marietta Public Health, 1650 County Services Parkway, and Thursdays at Douglas Public Health, 6770 Selman Drive, Douglasville. Both are open from 8 a.m.-noon.

The markets are open to the public and clients of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. WIC families receive $30 in coupons to buy fruit and vegetables.

'06 Lassiter grad picked for corps

Caitlin McLain, a 2006 graduate of Lassiter High School, was chosen to become part of the 2008 Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. She will perform in dance and with flags as a member of the Color Guard unit.

McLain was a member of the Bands of America national champion Lassiter Trojan Marching Band Color Guard and Winter Guard from 2002 to 2006. She recently assisted as an instructor of the "B" Guard with their "True Colors" show.
