A shiny, industrial-looking guardrail stands ready to protect unsuspecting trees from wayward motorists at the corner of Barnwell and Holcomb Bridge roads.

After a couple of phone calls to the Georgia Department of Transportation by Ken Hildebrandt, Johns Creek director of public works, the railing was replaced in short order.

A week or so before the guardrail was installed, the shoulder of the road had to be built up, said GDOT spokesman Mark McKinnon. The new railing was installed on Monday.

McKinnon said the guardrail was damaged in an accident several weeks ago and had been scheduled for repair.

SANDY SPRINGS: Sidewalk again ready for strolling

Fred and Pat Allen look forward to strolling along a portion of Glenridge Drive in Sandy Springs now that a stretch of a broken sidewalk has been fixed.

The Allens haven't been taking their regular exercise walks since the sidewalk was repaired last week. Fred Allen said they've been busy preparing for a vacation.

"Oh, absolutely, we look forward to it when we get back," Allen said Tuesday.

The sidewalk was repaired two days after Take to Task called Atlanta Gas Light Co. The utility had torn up the concrete to upgrade underground gas pipes. The gas company continues to work in the area.
