James Bartholomew Huskey, accused of raping a girl and creating child pornography, entered the federal courtroom Monday afternoon looking tired and slightly ill.

The married son of a Trion preacher was, until last week, a tennis coach to teenage girls.

Now, FBI agents say, Huskey, 38, has admitted sexually molesting a girl for the past three to four years —- since she was 6 years old —- and posting graphic videos of the sex on the Internet.

Huskey's mother attended the bond hearing but didn't make eye contact with her son.

U.S. Magistrate Judge E. Clayton Scofield III told those in the courtroom that he would deny bond and keep Huskey in jail.

FBI agents arrested Huskey on June 16 at his LaFayette home in northwest Georgia years after Australian law enforcement officials alerted them that several members of an international child pornography ring lived in the United States. Agents analyzed the videos and found clues in their background that took them to a hotel in Carrollton, where they matched a room's bedspread with one seen in a video made on July 21, 2007. That night, the room was registered to Huskey.

Agents also matched the interior of a car in a video with one registered to his wife, Sherri Ann Huskey. She has not been charged.

At Monday's hearings, Scofield viewed documentation of what Assistant U.S. Attorney Francey Hakes called a crime "as heinous as any that have ever been thought of in the minds of predators like him."

Scofield saw a video, Hakes said, that clearly showed Huskey violently sodomizing the girl, now 9 years old.

"The weight of the evidence in this case is heavy," Scofield said.

Yoder, who took part in the two-year investigation that led to Huskey's arrest, said the video was one of many in what he titled "The Tara Series," sexually violent films released on the Internet in which the same girl was repeatedly raped and physically abused for years.

In some videos, to remain anonymous, the rapist wore a Mardi Gras mask and forced the girl to do the same. In other videos, both their faces were pixelated or obscured.

Yoder told the court that once he was arrested, Huskey quickly admitted he had sexually molested the girl and even said he had sodomized her earlier that very day.

The girl has been taken into protective custody. Her identity and relationship to Huskey were not disclosed.

When asked why she never turned in her abuser, Yoder stated, "She said she didn't want to get the defendant into trouble."

Soft sobbing could be heard as Huskey held his head in his hands while Yoder spoke.

Huskey has been charged with manufacturing child pornography and uploading it to the Internet.

Public defender Matthew Dodge said he was glad to take the case, because he believes people have a right to be treated humanely.

"It's terrifying in his shoes. He's got the U.S. government against him," he said.

Dodge said he was not yet ready to comment further. In court, Dodge had requested that Huskey be allowed to post bond using what little equity could come from his parents' home in Trion.

Hakes urged the judge to deny Huskey's release.

"If ever there were a case for detention, your honor, this is it," she said.

Huskey will stay in detention while a federal grand jury decides if there is enough evidence to charge him, Dodge said after the hearing.
