THIS SUMMER CAMP ROCKS

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 06/15/08

For the past four years, young wannabe rockers have been able to strike up a tune at Camp Jam.

This year will be no different, as dozens of aspiring musicians from the Atlanta area come together to play music. Camp Jam Kidz is for 7- to 10-year-olds, and Camp Jam is for the 11-to-17 crowd. During the weeklong camp, students study everything from playing techniques to stage presence. The week ends with a concert by bands that formed during camp. The only prerequisite for participants is six months of experience on an instrument, said Nicholas Niespodziani, director of the Atlanta camp. "They can be on the beginner level on guitar, drums, keyboards or whatever," he said. "Because the truth is, in any song there's always a part that is simple enough for a novice player."
