Thursday's hot weather combined with an Ellenwood house fire sent three DeKalb County firefighters to the hospital with heat exhaustion.
Firefighters responded to a blaze at Riverview Bend and Riverview Freeway about 4 p.m., Fire Department Capt. Eric Jackson said. No one was in the home, and the fire was extinguished about an hour after emergency responders arrived.
With temperatures in Atlanta reported to have hit 92 degrees, Jackson said three firefighters succumbed to the heat extremes inside the burning home.
They were taken to DeKalb Medical at Hillendale in Lithonia where they were listed in stable condition.
"Depending on how they're doing, they may go back to work, and they may go home," Jackson said.
