BUFORD: Concert series scheduled at mall

Every Saturday through Aug. 30, the Mall of Georgia will host live musical performances by local artists. The performances will be held on the lawn at the outdoor Village Pavilion from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The community concert series is free and open to the public.

Meet-and-mingle set for Mansion

Buford Business Alliance presents the annual Bona Allen Mansion Open House Party 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 10. It is open to all adults, and refreshments are provided. The alliance's biggest "after hour" affair of the year is designed as a meet-and-mingle event for more than 300 members, prospective members and guests. DULUTH: Roger Ou earns national notice

Duluth High student Roger Ou was one of 10 students recognized for his essay in the Council for America's First Freedom essay contest. Ou received honorable mention at the national level in this contest for students in grades 9-12. The students were assigned a topic and were asked to examine religious freedom, its history, current importance and relevance in their lives. The contest was judged by college professors, ambassadors and legal experts on religious freedom.

Registration for day camp open

Bunten Road Park is registering for summer camps: Learn to Play Lacrosse, July 14-17; Hardball Warehouse Camp, today through June 6; Michael Douglas Basketball Camp, June 16-20; Tavani Soccer Camp, June 23-27; and Learn to Play Lacrosse, July 14-17. Golze joins realty team of Sugarloaf

Dana Golze has joined the Sugarloaf Country Club Realty sales team. Golze comes to Sugarloaf Country Club from John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods.

Golze has more than 20 years of real estate experience and spent the last 14 years as an on-site agent selling new homes. Golze lives in Lawrenceville with her husband, Roger.

Barbershop group hosts open house

The Stone Mountain Barbershop Chorus, led by director Drew McMillan, invites male singers to an open house today, at the Hudgens Center for the Arts, 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

NORCROSS: ISM-Atlanta votes Padgett president

Raymond W. Padgett was elected president and CEO of the Institute for Supply Management-Atlanta (ISM-Atlanta). Padgett's inauguration will be June 12 at the Hilton Atlanta Northeast, 5993 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Norcross. Reservations can be made at www.ism-atlanta.org.

Padgett joined the Institute for Supply Management in 2003 and, soon after, joined the board of directors for ISM-Atlanta. He has served as public relations chairman and vice president. Padgett is a director of the product management group at Stag-Parkway.

Also elected were Lauchlin McKinnon as first vice president and Richard Angel as second vice president.

Gospel group will perform June 14

The h2u (health, happiness, you) organization at Emory Eastside Medical Center presents Dr. Craig Mines, orthopedic surgeon, speaking about joint replacement and injury prevention. The free lecture will be at 2 p.m. June 25, at the Snellville Senior Center, 2350 Oak Road.

Grandparents get support group

SUGAR HILL: Council work session today

The Sugar Hill City Council will hold a work session 7 p.m. today, at the Sugar Hill City Hall Annex.

SUWANEE: Designs wanted for festival logo

The city of Suwanee is accepting entries for its 2008 Suwanee Day festival logo. The deadline for submissions is Friday. This year's festival, to be held Sept. 20 at Town Center Park, marks the 25th celebration of Suwanee Day.

The winning designer of the 2008 festival logo will receive $500, and the design will be on T-shirts, posters and other promotional materials.

Digitally created designs and original artwork including paintings, drawings and photographs will be accepted. Guidelines and an application are available at www.suwaneeday.com.

Fund-raiser seeks backyard athletes

The city of Suwanee is seeking the World's Greatest Backyard Athlete entrants. Entry forms are available at www.suwanee.com. The competition will be part of the Life is Good in Suwanee Festival at Town Center Park and is a fund-raiser for Project Joy, a nonprofit organization that uses play to strengthen and heal traumatized children. Works by local artist on display

An exhibit of works by local artist Vickie Johnson is on display at the Suwanee Crossroads Center. The exhibit, "Perceptions," features 15 acrylic and oil paintings including landscapes, cityscapes and portraits.

Johnson has been an art teacher in Gwinnett County Schools since 1994 and was named Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year in 1998.

The "Perceptions" exhibit is free and open to the public and will be on display for about three months. The Suwanee Crossroads Center, 323 Buford Highway, is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. The exhibit is in the court/meeting room.

COUNTYWIDE: Three graduate from Reinhardt

Three Gwinnett County students were among the 166 students to participate in the 2008 Reinhardt College spring semester commencement.

The graduates were Nichole Budd from Lawrenceville, bachelor of arts in English, summa cum laude and honors program graduate; Joseph Smith, Lilburn, bachelor of science in business administration; Neil Skinner, Suwanee, bachelor of science in business administration, cum laude.

Honors for baccalaureate graduates recognized for outstanding cumulative grade-point averages are as follows: summa cum laude 3.9-4.0; magna cum laude 3.6-3.89; and cum laude 3.3-3.59.

Credit union gives scholarships

Georgia Federal Credit Union (GFCU) recently awarded scholarships to six students and eight teachers and school staff members. Receiving the $1,500 GFCU Career Advancement Founder's Scholarship were Robert Maffeo, teacher at Collins Hill High; Ingrid Smyrna, paraprofessional at Beaver Ridge Elementary; Amanda Shirah, paraprofessional at Meadowcreek Elementary; Denise Nelson, technology support technician at R.D. Head Elementary; Erica Dwinell, teacher at Rock Springs Elementary; Ann Hamner, school nutrition program at Gwin Oaks Elementary; Robin Aubrey, teacher at Duluth High; and Asa Valente, paraprofessional at Berkeley Lake Elementary.

To apply for a scholarship, applicants must be credit union members and enrolled in an accredited program at a college, university or technical institute for career advancement.

The $2,000 GFCU Legacy Scholarship recipients are Stephanie Griffiths and Caitlin Moyer, both of Central Gwinnett High; Catherine Williams and Daryan Rahimzadeh, both of Grayson High; Carly Kurdelmeier of North Gwinnett High; and Tyler Rogers of Brookwood High.

A student scholarship applicant must be a Gwinnett high school senior who plans to pursue an education degree.
