Alonzo Jones borrowed some cash and couldn't pay it back, so the acquaintance who loaned Jones the money took a different approach to getting his money back, police say: He made Jones rob a bank in southwest Atlanta.
The suspect, Marquis Hodges of Atlanta, got a trip to jail on charges including kidnapping and false imprisonment, according to an Atlanta police report. It happened May 1 at a Wachovia Bank branch, at 612 Lee St., the report said.
Hodges and another man drove Jones to the bank at gunpoint, the victim told police. The men went inside, and Jones approached a teller and somehow passed a note explaining his predicament. The bank notified police and an officer arrived and detained Jones. Hodges was caught as he tried to sneak out of the bank. The third man escaped.

Rapper plants roots at old high school
Rapper and actor Chris "Ludacris" Bridges was once banned from Banneker High School, but now he's all over his alma mater. He has a gymnasium named for him and shares space on a mural that also features the school's namesake, Benjamin Banneker.
Bridges heard about a mock funeral students staged in February to symbolically put problems in their past firmly behind them. Inspired by their determination, Bridges returned to the College Park school to plant a tree and offer words of encouragement to the school's 1,600 students. He spoke especially to the Men of Destiny program, a group of 300 teenage boys at the school who are being mentored by male faculty members. "It's not about the hand you're dealt, it's how you play it," he said. "I'm living proof."
Bridges' presence on the school campus was a big deal for students, administrators and former teachers. Four years ago, a previous administration told Bridges he was not welcome on school grounds due to the disruption his visits caused. A wall grew between Bridges and the school and he vowed never to return. "But this thing has come 180 degrees and now you are always welcome," said principal Robert Williams. Williams said he hopes the school can form a new relationship with Bridges that also will be beneficial for the students.

1-year-old survives fall from window
A 1-year-old Atlanta boy survived a 20-foot fall from his family's second-story apartment after slipping through a bedroom window, according to Atlanta police. It might have helped that the boy, Daymond Alridge, landed on grass instead of pavement. His father, Daniel Robinson Jr., heard Daymond hit the ground, scooped him up and drove him to the hospital, ignoring red lights along the way. A police investigator spotted Robinson driving erratically and tried to pull him over, but the panicked father ignored the officer, too, according to an Atlanta police report. Daymond ended up at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding, where he was listed in stable condition and had no visible injuries, according to the report filed May 6, the day the incident occurred.
