With warm weather and barbecues luring people outdoors, learn the warning signs of an unsafe deck this weekend at an Austell Home Depot.
The safety demonstration will teach homeowners how to check for loose and missing support connections, corrosion, rot and cracks, and will include a live deck collapse. The event is hosted by the Home Depot and Simpson Strong-Tie, a manufacturer of structural connectors used in deck construction. It's sponsored by the North American Deck & Railing Association and the American Society of Home Inspectors.
The live deck collapse is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a free deck safety clinic at 1 p.m. Both in the parking lot of the Home Depot, 1200 East-West Connector S.W., Austell. To learn more, visit www.homedepot.com/decksafety.
