Counties connect proud past to bright future

Fayette and Coweta counties used to be sleepy, slow-moving places.
But modern communities have grown from the old foundation.
For example, Newnan, the Coweta County seat, offers a scenic court square, quiet neighborhoods and beautiful Southern homes.
Many of those design elements were incorporated in SummerGrove, a large planned community in eastern Newnan. The homes provide old-time comfort but also have high-speed Internet access, structured wiring and customized community intranets.
In south Fayette County, you'll find Starr's Mill, an old gristmill and one of the most photographed spots in Georgia.
Just down the road you'll find a sprawling school complex of the same name. Subdivisions are springing up around the mill and the school complex.
Fayetteville is finding its future in the past. The city has adopted a plan to revitalize the downtown in a way that plays up the town's history. The downtown, which is built around the 1825 courthouse, will become more pedestrian-friendly. Near Fayette County High is a new amphitheater with summer concerts.
Hartsfield International Airport has fueled population growth. Many airline employees call Fayette and Coweta home. Both counties are nearing 100,000 in population.
