Created: In 1870 from parts of Henry and Newton counties.

Named for: The Rockdale Church, as well as the vein of granite running beneath the county.

Population: 73,558, 27th of 159 counties in Georgia (2002 Census Bureau estimate).

Area: 132 square miles.
