Heavy rain, hail possible through the evening

A major thunderstorm caused some flooding in one northeast Georgia county Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

For the remainder of the evening, the National Weather Service forecasts a 30 percent chance of pop-up thunderstorms, heavy winds and small hail.

Highs will be in the mid-80s, with lows in the mid-60s.

Throughout north and central Georgia Wednesday there were a series of scattered thunderstorms, with the greatest concentration of rain in Gwinnett County.

There are no reports of flooding or other storm damage in and around the Atlanta city limits.

Over a four-hour period, Towns County received close to 6 inches of rain during an early morning thunderstorm system. The rain caused headwater creeks to flood agricultural folds and washed out some private dirt roads, said Kent Fantz of the NWS.

The National Weather Service issued the flood warning just before 8 a.m. for Towns County, east-central Union County and northern White county.
