Thunderstorms possible this afternoon and evening

The National Weather Service is forecasting scattered thunderstorms today, with some becoming severe, across portions of north and central Georgia this afternoon and evening.

Today’s forecast predicts a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms this evening.

Primary hazards from storms today include strong, damaging winds and frequent lightning between 3 p.m and 6 p.m.

Storms are expected to move south across the state this evening after 6 p.m. and through midnight, with some possibly becoming severe.

No hazardous weather is expected for Friday. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible in the northeast Georgia mountains Saturday afternoon.
