Flu strikes counselors, delays Camp Coleman in Cleveland, Ga.

Officials have delayed the opening of a summer camp for youth in North Georgia after several counselors fell ill.

URJ Camp Coleman in Cleveland is delayed for at least a week, according to Dave Palmer, a spokesman for District 2 Public Health - Emergency Preparedness in Gainesville.

Palmer said six counselors were sought medical care for influenza-like symptoms, although none was hospitalized. The rapid tests were positive for Influenza A. No youth campers had yet arrived at the camp. Camp officials could not be reached for comment.

On its Web site, Camp Coleman is described as a camp that allows children “to live a wholly Jewish life while at camp. Campers can experience Jewish culture and tradition while in a safe, challenging and fun environment.

Recently, several scouts of Troop 434 from All Saints Catholic Church fell ill after a week at Camp Daniel Boone in North Carolina.
