Suspect arrested in killing of Conyers man found in creek

Authorities have arrested a 22-year-old Covington man for the slaying of a landscaper who was found in a Newton County creek.

The suspect, Pablo Maldonado, was picked up by police in Anniston, Ala., early Sunday, and will be brought back to Newton County on Monday.

The body of the victim, 55-year-old Timothy Clements of Conyers, was discovered by a fisherman Friday afternoon in Snapping Shoals Creek near Ga. 212. Clements was last seen when he left for work Thursday morning. Authorities identified Clements through his dental records.

The GBI did not say how Clements was killed or what the motive was. Clements’ Ford pickup truck is still missing.
